GRAMMY NOTES: One summer, my eldest asked me if we were poor. Money was and is often tight, but “poor”? Hardly! I told her of course not and asked why she would think it. “We don’t have a pool.” There’d been a rash of new pools in our neighborhood that summer. It made me realize how much of our sense of wealth is comparative. So I began subscribing to Maryknoll Magazine and teaching my kids what real poverty is.

I’m an old superdupers comics fan – more Marvel than DC as a kid, but read a lot of both. Long time since I followed or cared about the comics. Been watching the movies and tv shows, just to see what they’ve done with my old heroes & villains. “Truth, Justice, and the American Way” still moves my heart.

About Thuperman: From what I’ve read, this is not the original son of Krypton, but his son. For whatever that’s worth.

We’ve been watching a new series on CW, “Superman and Lois,” with which I’ve been impressed. Clark and Lois have teen-age fraternal twin boys, and decide to move out of Metropolis, back to Smallville and the old Kent farm.

The show has focused on this close-knit family, and has been pretty much free of the awful “Political Correctness” which has infected similar shows from the same producers (especially bad: “Supergirl,” which started off great but has become unwatchable, and stupid besides). One of the best aspects of the show is the brothers, who have pretty much normal relations with their parents, with girls, and best of all the portrayal of their close sibling relationship. The boys may feud, but make up pretty quickly, and that’s been great to see. So, I pray they don’t do to Jonathan Kent (one of the boys) in the tv show what they’re doing to Supertwink in the comics.

A fellow known as Razorfist on YouTube had a great rant about this development, and what’s happened to all the “heroes” since the old days (pulp novels, early comics). Full of foulmouthedness, but funny, as per usual for him.
