CATHOLIC: Today is the Feast of St. Maximilian Kolbe, also known as the martyr of Auschwitz. He was sent to the Nazi concentration camp for hiding 3,000 Polish and Jewish refugees in a shelter at his friary. During the nights in the concentration camp, he would go bunk to bunk saying, “I am a Catholic priest. Can I do anything for you?

When a fellow prisoner attempted to escape, 10 men were chosen to be killed as retribution. Saint Maximilian volunteered to take the place of Franciszek Gajowniczek, a husband and father who had been chosen. Franciscek later recalled, “I could only thank him with my eyes. I was stunned and could hardly grasp what was going on. The immensity of it: I, the condemned, am to live and someone else willingly and voluntarily offers his life for me – a stranger. Is this some dream?

Put into a starvation cell with the other nine men, Fr. Kolbe would kneel and lead psalms and canticles. He’d encourage them to forgive their persecutors. One of the SS guards even stated, “This priest is really a great man. We have never seen anyone like him.”

Father Kolbe was the last man in the starvation cell to remain alive. The Nazis then executed him by injection with carbolic acid on Aug. 14, 1941. He was beatified on Oct. 17, 1971 by Pope Paul VI and canonized by Pope John Paul II on Oct. 10, 1982. Franciszek Gajowniczek was present for the canonization.

How did this friar have such heroic virtue, mercy, and forgiveness in the face of such injustice and suffering? Practice. Indeed, Fr. Kolbe strove to live a life of mercy beginning years before his arrest. We would do well in these perilous times to also practice so that when the time comes, we will be able to behave in a way that honors Our Lord Jesus.

COVID-19: Sweden took the controversial route to achieve herd immunity as quickly as possible by not shutting down. The nation now averages of 0.6 COVID deaths per day. In nearby Finland and Norway, deaths are in the hundreds. In Denmark, they are in the thousands.

WATCH THIS ONE: CLICK https://rumble.com/vl0cjw-august-11-2021.html [5:59] to hear Dr. Dan Stock’s address to the Mt. Vernon School Board in Indiana over the futility of mask mandates and COVID-19 protocols in most schools. “Everything being recommended by the CDC and the state Board of Health is contrary to science.” One point he talks about is why the vaccinated are getting sick and how important Vitamin D, zinc, and ivermectin are.

DEATH of COMEDY: [6:08] – New York voters really know how to pick them. Before Skeezy Andy, we had Eliot Spitzer, who resigned in 2008 after it came out that that he patronized prostitutes while traveling on official business. Spitzer’s immediate successor, David Paterson, left following ethics complaints which, oddly enough were not about sex.

Paterson was accused of witness tampering, soliciting improper gifts, and making false statements under oath. He was eventually fined more than $60K for accepting free World Series tickets, but was not charged with perjury despite having lied about said tickets. I don’t know what happened with the witness tampering charge.

Steyn’s reference to Paterson and the Days Inn was from a time prior to when Paterson served as interim governor. He and his wife admitted that, during a rocky period in their marriage, they had each had affairs. Ultimately, they committed to fixing their relationship. “Like most marriages, you go through certain difficult periods,” Michelle Paterson said. “What’s important is for your kids to see you worked them out.

GENDER: [5:31] – This race demonstrates in very short order why mtf trannies have no business competing against real women.

HUNTER: Only Newsweek and FOX News reported on the incident, but only FOX treated it seriously.

MEDIA: On Thursday, the Texas Tribune published a piece about how Texas children’s hospitals are experiencing a surge in cases of COVID-19 and RSV. (RSV is a highly contagious virus that can require hospitalization mostly among children 5 years and younger and especially infants.)

The 5,800 number actually refers to the total number of children hospitalized with COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

The Tribune published the correction above, but not before the grossly inflated number had been tweeted out … which maybe was the whole point.

POINT OF NO RETURN: The true point of no return was when we allowed evil people to push God out of every aspect of our lives.

SHROUD OF TURIN: [3:59] – This is fascinating.

TEXAS RUNAWAYS: [2:14] – CLICK https://rumble.com/vl1qme-real-america-dan-w-bob-hall-august-11-2021.html [6:37] to hear Get Real Dan report about arrest warrants for the 52 Democrat slackers. The point isn’t to put anyone in jail, but to get them to come back to work … like they’re being paid to do. And, oh yes, took an OATH to do.

VAX HESITATION: A new study has found that the most highly educated Americans are also the most vaccine hesitant. It also showed that the number one concern among the hesitant is potential side effects, with a lack of trust in government close behind in second place.

The results of the investigation completely debunk the Left’s narrative that only dumb people refuse to be vaccinated, while all the smart and sophisticated people are already vaccinated.

VAX MUTATIONS: Exactly! It wouldn’t make Moderna, Pfizer, or BioNTech billions of dollars. Also, it wouldn’t give Progressives any excuse to keep us masked and locked down.

GRAMMY NOTES: On Friday, the Scouts hiked up Mt. Britton. Some of them made it all the way to the top of the tower.
