SO HOW WAS YOUR WEEKEND?

We’ve been pretty fortunate around here this winter, but that all ended Saturday/Sunday. Our area got somewhere between 12-15″. The door latch on my Ford POS was frozen,so I had to take DW’s car to work this AM. She has an SUV with a 4 cylinder motor that is as useful in snow as teats on a boar hog. Got stuck twice going to work, once after I started my route,so I gave up and went home and got stuck in our as-yet-unplowed driveway. Finally got my car fixed and got the job finished this afternoon. Hopefully we won’t get blasted like that again this season.

No, this is NOT me.

How Secure Is Valerie Jarrett’s Position in the Obama Administration?

Immediately following crushing defeat in the 2014 referendum over Barack Obama’s anti-capitalist policies, calls mounted in Democrat circles for ouster of senior advisor Valerie Bowman Jarrett.

At first, Jarrett survived stiff challenges–could this year prove different?

America’s overleveraged, deficit-wracked economy is buckling, as we fail adequately to identify and then defeat a growing raft of foes–somebody senior seems certain to pay the price.
I can promise you he will never, ever cross her.Muslims stick together.

One truism of politics is that the left will ALWAYS tell you who they’re afraid of.From the nano second that McQueeg named Sarah Palin as his VP the assault began and has not subsided. Now comes scott Walker. He won 3 elections in 4 years and faced every dirty trick the unions and their democrat flunkies threw at him. He’s a man of principle and is someone conservatives can believe in.That makes him lethal to the left
    .
This is a jab from the left:
Scott Walker Presidential Bid Self-Destructs On ABC’s ‘This Week’
However, Walker couldn’t manage to muster up anything remotely new, bold or interesting when responding to a question on a critical domestic issue like immigration.

When Raddatz asked, “What would you do about the 11 million undocumented who are still here?,” Walker responded, “We for sure need to secure the border. I think we need to enforce the legal system. I’m not for amnesty, I’m not an advocate of the plans that have been pushed here in Washington… we need to find a way for people to have a legitimate legal immigration system in this country, and that doesn’t mean amnesty.”

Wow…how is it possible that nobody else has thought of securing the border? This is a new and bold idea.

Watch how Scott Walker handles a hostile interviewer — and who came out on top
You talk about leadership, you talk about big, bold, fresh ideas,” Raddatz said mockingly. “What’s your big, bold, fresh idea on Syria?”

After brushing over one setback after another by President Obama in the Middle East, suddenly the media wants to talk foreign policy.

And when Walker mentioned one of those setbacks — Obama’s infamous “red line” — Raddatz wasn’t having any part of it.

“Let’s not go backward, let’s go forward,” she said with a straight face.

Walker responded by saying the United States needs to take the fight to the Islamic State militants, and that we need leadership willing to take appropriate action.

“You don’t think 2,000 airstrikes is taking it to ISIS?” Raddatz asked, in defense of actions taken by Obama — she didn’t bother to mention that ISIS has almost doubled the land it controls in Syria since those airstrikes began
imagine any democrat being treated this way

Netanyahu’s Likud moves ahead in Israeli election polling as party seeks ban on Obama-affiliated organizations campaigning in Israel
The Likud Party is firing back against the efforts of Obama-affiliated and State Department-funded US groups to intervene in the Israeli election. Haaretz reports (via Scoopnest):

Likud petitioned the Central Elections Committee on Wednesday for an order barring campaigning by the V15 organization, after Haaretz earlier this week reported on the organization’s efforts to replace the Likud-led government.

V15, which stands for Victory 2015, is partnering with the pro-peace organization OneVoice. Its goal is to recruit thousands of volunteers who will go door to door before the election to persuade as many as one million people to vote to change the government

President Obama To Present His Fiscal Year 2016 Budget Proposal Today…

The last time a federal budget was passed into law was September of 2007 for fiscal year 2008 and it was signed by President Bush. President Obama has not had a single day in office with a federal budget, EVER.

For the first time in six years President Obama will actually meet a statutorily required deadline for submitting a federal budget. The Executive Branch budget proposals are due by the first Monday in February; however Obama usually blows off the rules.

Common Sense Dictates Millennials’ Driving Habits
In my day,we called these dudes ‘hippies’

I’ve often told my stepson it’s a shame he missed the golden age of muscle cars. The GTO Judge, the Olds 442,the Plymouth Duster with the 340 six pack, the Super Bee and the very rare Super Bird, which was banned from NASCAR because it was so fast, the Camaros,Mustangs and Novas. We raced ’em,we cruised ’em,we had fun.
MTV recently conducted a study finding that Millennials are more passionate about driving than texting—and that, given a choice, 72% of Millennials would rather abstain from texting for a week than forgo the freedom to drive for seven days.

According to the MTV study, 75% of Millennials enjoy the freedom of cruising the open road and most of them are skeptics of so-called “green,” electric and fuel-efficient cars. Millennials told MTV pollsters that they do not believe fuel-efficient or electric technology is a practical long-term solution for American drivers.

The left hijacks the Super Bowl
From car commercials, no less, came repeated preachments to males regarding their responsibilities as fathers and family heads. I have a suspicion that this advertising was targeted at young black males, who watch and wager on the Super Bowl in large numbers and who have a well-recognized and well-deserved reputation for fathering without any follow-up. However, in keeping with the current politically correct standards followed by the advertising industry, the ads would make it appear that white fathers were the culprits.
You know what? If I were a black male, I would be thoroughly pissed at NBC for using the major sporting event of the year to target me in such a fashion. Call it ambush advertising

Michelle Obama Praises Movie-TV Industry for Promoting Same-Sex Marriage

So the fact is, in many ways, you all are in a unique position to help us address some of the most challenging issues that we face as a nation,” she said. “Just take an issue like gay rights. It wasn’t all that long ago that this was a third-rail kind of issue, not just in politics, but in entertainment as well. It was considered sensitive, even controversial.

  9. Is that ValJar quote real? I mean, it’s no surprise other than that it’s so expressly clear. Still, hadn’t seen that before.

But, as John McCain might ask, what have we to fear from Islam?

There have now been over 25,000 reported deadly Islamic terrorist attacks since the 9-11 attacks.

The quote is not real, and I’d respectfully recommend better source verification. They have enough real poo on their shoes without us adding additional specious bullshit.

        • I also doubt the quote, but others have researched it without being able to verify it or dispute it. See, for example, Diann Russell:
          http://alltherightsnark.org/dianny-rants-valerie-grins/
She makes the point that the quote is irrelevant, anyway, since Jarrett’s real, current-day actions are enough to occupy us. I generally don’t like to risk putting up material like this, because hoaxes are common, either those motivated by generating conservative clicks or by lefties trying to bait us into looking stupid, so I agree with you about that. On the other hand, I’m not inclined to suggest Pete take it down, since all I’ve found is a few comments where people say “That’s not real” without providing any source from any hoax authority.

    Busted

Every Sharpton business known has been dissolved for failure to comply with tax rules.
So far, every for-profit enterprise started by Al Sharpton and known to National Review Online has been shut down in at least one jurisdiction for failure to pay taxes, a review of public records in New York and Delaware reveals.

Records show that Sharpton’s beleaguered for-profit entities often overlap and intertwine, some sharing ties with the reverend’s nonprofit organization, National Action Network. Their financial records are copious, confusing, and sometimes outright bizarre, and together, they depict persistent financial woes for Sharpton, who also personally owes New York State nearly $596,000, according to active tax warrants

Bill de Blasio under fire over payoff of man who attacked cops
Back in 2010, Brooklyn resident Ruhim Ullah attacked police officers with a machete. (Yes… a machete.) In response, the cops shot Ullah in the leg and disarmed him. Given the reputation that the NYPD has among at least some in minority communities, one might think that Mr. Ullah would be grateful to get out of that one with his life, but alas it was not so. The machete wielding maniac found a lawyer to take up his case and sued the city for $3M. That case came to a close this week, but not in the way you might expect. And the cops hit the roof.
The payoff to Ruhim Ullah to drop his lawsuit was only $5,000 but the principle it represented — that cops who shot him did something wrong — sent Bratton into orbit.

Squatters Disrupt Detroit’s Plans to Bulldoze Its Way to Prosperity

At a cost of hundreds of millions of tax dollars, Detroit has launched its plan to contract the size of its city by demolishing thousands of abandoned buildings in areas blighted by decay. But the city is repeatedly running into squatters living in the abandoned buildings, slowing the city’s effort to bulldoze its way to prosperity.

I don’t give a flying hoot (apologies to Hoot) about the UN, and most “heritage” or “historic” designations just make it hard for property owners to modify their own property; therefore, nomination as a UN World Heritage Site of the local oddity called the Price Tower doesn’t get me real excited. It’s already got other historic designations.

But it does give me a chance to link to some videos about the Price Tower and talk about it. It’s about four years younger than I am, so it was new and a big deal when I was a kid. Still a landmark in the old home burb. Can’t miss it. My grade school was just across the street from it, before they destroyed that venerable educational edifice to build an obscenity called the Communist Community Center. Do I digress?

Oklahoma Stories: Frank Lloyd Wright’s Only Skyscraper, Price Tower in Bartlesville, Oklahoma by OETA (Edu. TV) is a good look at its history. They don’t mention that this “skyscraper” was originally intended for Chicago, and was scaled down considerably for Mr. Price’s commission. So I always heard.

Here’s some guy’s walk-through of his room in the Price Tower Inn (not much walking involved), with views overlooking downtown Bottlesburg. My favorite bit of the narrative: “Lots of churches around here.” Yes. Or as Frank Zappa sang, “churches… churches… and liquor stores! Do I digress?

There’s a spacious first-floor exhibit area. I was only inside the tower part once; went to somebody’s office for some reason, must’ve been pre-high school. As a wanna-be architect once upon a time, I found the building fascinating. The whole place is designed on 30-60-90 triangles (as was explained to us one day by the Principal of the Jr HS, when subbing for our Latin teacher), and that’s echoed in the floor tiles and such. I’d always heard Wright’s buildings were small — low doorways and such — because he was short. Don’t know about that, but I’d believe the whole thing was done on something less than full scale after I rode up in the smallest elevator I’ve ever been in. Claustrophobia is one of my kryptonites. Never needed to go back.
