THURSDAYS BITS AND PIECES

First, congratulations to BoB on the impending arrival of her first grandchild. If I knew grandchildren were so much fun I’d have tried to have them first!

It’s still below zero and there’s a snowstorm heading this way this afternoon. I look out the window and remember dealing with a cold-blooded diesel truck and shivering so badly from the cold I could barely steer the damn thing straight. Then I look out the window, sipping my coffee and contemplating taking a little nap. Retirement ain’t all that bad.

My sister sent me a five day weather forecast from her city. She lives in Phoenix. It’s going to be in the 80s every day. I hate my sister.

After more than 20 years together,I think DW likes to push my buttons on purpose. I got home this morning and poured myself a bowl of Rice Krispies for breakfast. She had put the jug back in the fridge with two teaspoons of milk left in it. A normal person would have emptied it,rinsed the container out and put it in the recycle bin and opened another gallon. I got a snap and a crackle, but there was no pop.

Female police officer killed in second Paris shooting was ‘27-year-old rookie’ who was shot in the back moments before hero street cleaner was blasted in the face as he wrestled ‘North African wielding assault rifle’
Policewoman had stopped to investigate a traffic accident in Montrouge just before dawn this morning
Two men tried to confront the gunman, who shot one of them in the face leaving him in a serious condition
Witnesses describe hearing at least five shots ring out during the assault in the south of Paris
Attacker is said to have ‘used an M5 assault rifle’ before fleeing scene wearing a ‘bullet-proof vest’
An unarmed citizenry used to appeasing their enemies for centuries vs. Islamo-Fascist terrorists, trained assassins and armed to the teeth. This is going to get ugly.

    “Yes!” Boehner interjected.

Obama Is Ready to Ramp Up the Vetoes

For Obama, who has only vetoed two bills since taking office in 2009, this is a shift and a potential signal to the GOP about how he will work with the new majority over the last two years of his presidency. White House spokesman Josh Earnest has already said Obama will continue to take executive actions in the “fourth quarter” of his presidency.

He’s not going to let anybody else interfere with his transformation of the country into a redistributionist utopia.

Vandal loosened lug nuts on NYPD cruisers in possible sabotage

NYPD haters have turned to a more cowardly method of taking out city cops — by loosening or completely removing lug nuts from their person and work cars to try causing fatal crashes, The Post has learned.
Investigators found that lug nuts were loosened on another officer’s personal car parked in a “Police Only” zone, as well as a civilian employee’s car which had its lugs completely removed.

Flashback Hillary Clinton: Smart Power Means Empathizing With Your Enemies
Smartest women in the world says you have to try to understand their perspective and show respect

“This is what we call smart power. Using every possible tool and partner to advance peace and security. Leaving no one on the sidelines. Showing respect even for one’s enemies. Trying to understand, in so far as psychologically possible, empathize with their perspective and point of view. Helping to define the problems, determine the solutions. That is what we believe in the 21st century will change — change the prospects for peace”

Progressives To SCOTUS: Do The Right Thing And Ignore The Constitution

Most bothersome, though, is the fact that the Left doesn’t even bother pretending that the Constitution is more important than acts of progressive righteousness. We see it with left-wing groups openly pushing for more executive actions that directly circumvent legislative process. We see it with King v. Burwell, as well. Justice Roberts will have blood on his hands if he undermines progress – never mind the case. That this is the sort of reasoning that “might weigh heavily in the government’s strategy for winning” in the case is a depressing commentary on that government’s contempt for the court.

    McConnell promises dramatic change
He pledged to decentralize power in the Senate, which had become concentrated in Reid’s office during the past eight years of Democratic rule.

“It’s time to change the business model,” McConnell said in his first lengthy speech on the floor as majority leader. “We need to return to regular order. We need to get committees working again. We need to recommit to a rational, functional appropriations process.”
He promised to “open up the legislative process” to allow senators on both sides of the aisle more opportunity to offer and vote on amendments.

After six long years of eating Reid’s shit sandwiches the Turlte is eager to show the democrats there are no hard feelings.

  16. Good afternoon from the wilds of Oklahoma, where we’re experiencing a heatwave. It was 8°F at 7am, and we’re up to 34. Swimmin’ weather!

I was just looking at my newsfeeds, and the list of the latest headlines from Pundit Press struck me as a kind-of glimpse at the state of the world:

    • International Business Times: Jews, Israel Behind Paris Shooting
    • Labor Secretary Thomas Perez: The Bible demands we increase minimum wage
    • Obama administration plans to redouble efforts explaining the “true tenets of Islam”

The crazy, it is so deeply and widely spread!

  17. On Sundays, Mom took us to the Episcopal Church. All my life until I left for college, pretty much every Sunday. It wasn’t my favorite activity as a little kid, but as a teen, I came to appreciate the ceremony. Fr. Rogers was especially helpful to my spiritual growth early-on. I wasn’t raised very educated in Bible or theology or doctrine, but I had a grounding of appreciation for Jesus that kept me coming back.

And that origin of the church, yeah, we just don’t talk much about the beheading king guy — long ago, unfortunate start. 😀

When I first went to Chicago to meet Milady’s family, her cousin Tom the Monk asked me about my church upbringing. “Episcopal?” he said, with that big smile of his, “You guys are more High Church than we are these days!” Which, at the time, was true.

Being Episcopal was kind of like being neutral in the doctrinal wars; theologically, no one quite knew what they’d argue against.

I don’t go to the Episcopal Church, for many years now. I’ve watched the changes. I don’t much proudly proclaim my Episcopal upbringing anymore. Women pastors seemed to me a natural evolution. Why that opens the door to every deviant permission is beyond me. But so it has gone. There is a “conservative” branch in Tulsa that split off from the main church, built by some of the Moneyed, but many stay in their local congregation, despite objections to changes.

Let’s see now, what was that Gospel, and what were we supposed to do with it? I dunno. We’ll talk about that after the big chili feast for abortion!

St. James Episcopal Church will celebrate 42 years of abortion with Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid Missouri on January 22, 2015 for their Chili for Choice.

I do still go to an Episcopal church, but I just try to immerse myself in the service and ignore the big picture of The Church. It’s just me and God in that building as far as I am concerned, and the Prayer Book gives me the framework to communicate with Him in a more formal fashion than our usual chats.

That’s a great way to put it. I am not a regular, but when I attend, there’s much to appreciate, and the rest, well, I’ll just mumble mumble through that part.

    • That chili feast is pretty bad, but we all have things we’re ashamed of when it comes to church, I guess. Maybe it’s supposed to be that way. Keeps us aware that we’re only the earthly part of the church. A church full of sinners is how it started out (Peter facepalms quietly…) and it hasn’t gotten much better. But maybe it will. 🙂
