More on Blood Moon Tetrads

Those of us paying attention to End Times prophecy have heard a lot about the current Blood Moon Tetrad.  I’ve read conflicting accounts and confusing accounts and inaccurate accounts of what it is and what it may or may not signify with regard to Jesus’ Second Coming.

So I did my own research.

  • “Blood Moon” is simply a colorful name for a total eclipse of the moon.
  • “Tetrad” means four.
  • “Blood Moon Tetrad” is four total lunar eclipses in a row.

When Christians speculate about the significance of the current Blood Moon Tetrad, they’re not talking about ANY four total lunar eclipses in a row. They’re talking about only those that coincide with the Jewish holidays of Passover and Sukkot.

At the NASA website, there is a page called “Six Millennium Catalog of Lunar Eclipses” on which the number of Blood Moon Tetrads per century is given for every century from 3,000 BC to 3,000 CE.  As you can see here, four lunar eclipses in a row are unusual, but nothing like as rare as I’ve heard claimed.

Tetrad frequency

I looked at every one of the tetrads since Jesus’ First coming and found only eleven during which the eclipses coincided with the beginning of the Jewish holy weeks of Passover (sundown Nisan 14) and Sukkot (sundown Tishri 14).

Tetrad finding them

These are the only eleven tetrads since Jesus’ First Coming that coincided with Passover and Sukkot.

Tetrad CE Blood Moon Tetrads on Passover-Sukkot

The interest in Blood Moon Tetrads is based on these End Times prophecies:

  • Joel 3:4-5 – “The sun will darken. The moon will turn blood-red. Everyone who calls upon the name of the LORD will escape harm.”

  • Matthew 24:29-31 – “The sun will be darkened. The moon will not give its light. The stars will fall from the sky. The sign of the Son of Man will appear.”

  • Rev 6:12-14 – “The sun turned black. The moon became like blood. The stars fell to the earth. The sky divided like a torn scroll.”

There is nothing about any tetrad of red moons, so while the current tetrad is interesting and unusual, it is not enough on its own to say “The End Times Are Here!”   For one thing, we also need a total solar eclipse, so I looked at the NASA solar eclipse site to see if I could eliminate any of the eleven tetrads.

  • I lost both of the tetrads in the 2d century, plus the one in the 15th century, because no total solar eclipses fell within those Blood Moon Tetrad dates.  That left me with eight tetrads.
  • I lost the two in the 3d and 15th centuries, because while there were total solar eclipse within those tetrads, they didn’t fall on significant dates in the Jewish calendar.  That left me with six tetrads.
  • Of these six, three were in the first millennium, so while they might be interesting for some other reason, I decided I could eliminate them from End Times consideration.  That left me with only the following three tetrads.

What exactly is a “Blood Moon Tetrad”?

If you’ve heard about it, but not really understood it, maybe this will help.

What is a Blood Moon Tetrad

NASA has a list of how many Lunar Eclipse Tetrads occur in each century for 5,000 years.  See the far right column @ http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/LEcat5/LEcatalog.html#cattab

If you click on the century, you can scroll down to find the four Ts in a row.  Note: There was no year zero; 1 BC was followed by 1 CE. This makes calculating the number of years between a BC and a CE event awkward, so astronomers use 0000 for 1 BC and negative numbers for earlier years. Thus, all astronomy year numbers for the Common Era are the same, but for BC, they are all one less. E.g., Jesus was born in 2 BC, which is -0001 in astronomy years.

The path graphics I use can be accessed by clicking on the red underlined number to the left of the date of the eclipse at the NASA site.

I prefer to see the center of the path in the center of the graphic, so I photoshop them for clarity only. I don’t change any of the data; I just make it easier for non-astronomy geeks to interpret.

Medjugorje eclipse matcher number SEVEN!

I found the seventh pairing! I figured if God was behind all this sky and calendar synchronicity, there had to be SEVEN pairs, not six. And I was right. 🙂

0000 & 1982 Herod's eclipse and matcher

This pair breaks the pattern in some interesting ways.

Datability of significant events in Jesus’ First Coming:

  • For the other six pairings, the datability can be derived from clues found in the Bible.
  • The Herod pair breaks this pattern in that it requires both Scripture and the account by secular historian Josephus.

Calendar days and dates:

  • For the other six pairings, the 1st and 21st century Hebrew months match each other and the 1st and 21st century Common months match each other.
  • The Herod pair breaks this pattern in that only the Hebrew calendars are identical, while the Common calendar is off by one date.

Weekdays and dates of the eclipses:

  • For the other six pairings, the weekdays and dates of the eclipses were* one day of the week and one number date earlier in the 1st century than in the 21st century.
  • The Herod pair breaks this pattern in that the Hebrew days and dates are identical (Sabbath, Tevet 14), while the Common date is one earlier rather than one later in the 21st century.

Jewish holidays:

  • For the other six pairings, the eclipses were on significant dates in the Jewish ecclesiastical calendar – Passover, Sukkot, and year end.
  • The Herod pair breaks this pattern, in that the eclipses were both on Sabbath and the significant event was not a holiday, but the cruel execution of rabbis for defying Herod’s sacrilege.

Eclipse paths:

  • For the other six pairings, the eclipses were not visible from the Holy Land. For the five other lunar eclipses, the paths of the pairs nearly overlap, with just a time zone or two between them.
  • The Herod pair breaks this pattern, in that the two eclipses were visible from the Holy Land and the paths did not overlap so closely. However, the paths demonstrate an interesting feature, which is that they each seem to be centered on the dominant persecuting empire of the time.

0000-1982 Herod's eclipse, Medj anniv paths

*Some of the 21st century eclipses have not happened yet, but for grammatical simplicity, I am using past tense rather than the cumbersome were/will be.

Dating the Slaughter of the Innocents and the Flight into Egypt

Today is Sivan 15, the date Jesus was born in Bethlehem.  Let’s all spend a few minutes this Father’s Day week-end thinking about what Joseph went through … accepting that his pregnant wife hadn’t cheated on him, but was carrying the Messiah … taking a massively pregnant woman on a week-long journey by foot to a town too crowded to provide her a clean bed in which to give birth … supporting the three of them in Bethlehem while the baby grew enough to travel … packing them all on to their donkey and fleeing to Egypt … supporting them in a strange country where he likely did not speak the language … taking them all on the long journey back to Nazareth where he again had to set up shop … be the most important human father figure in the young life of the Son of God.  Phew.  The man deserves a lot more credit than he usually gets!

Eclipse Matcher Number Six!

Back in April, I posted this information:

Dating Jesus' Bar Mitzvah

Today, I’ve got an addendum that ties the April/Nisan matcher Passover of 13 CE with the Medjugorje Anniversary calendar via yet another double eclipse that shows the same pattern as the previous five pairs I’ve found:

  • The 1st century event can be matched to a significant event in Jesus’ First Coming.
    • The 21st century event falls on the Medjugorje Anniversary (i.e., 1982 years later).
  • The 1st and 21st century Hebrew and Common Calendars match each other.
    • The 1st century week day is the day before the 21st century week day.
  • The paths of the lunar eclipses are similar.
    • The 1st century path is to the west of the 21st century path.
  • The eclipses both land at the beginning of a major Jewish festival week.

The FOURTH Blood Moon has a First Century matcher too!

In case you’ve lost track, this makes FIVE “Medjugorje Anniversary” eclipse events I’ve found so far. ALL FOUR of the TETRAD Blood Moons, plus the total solar eclipse that will occur between the second and third of them.  In all five cases, the 1st and 21st c. Common and Hebrew calendars match each other. Also, the paths of the 1st and 21st c. lunar eclipse pairs are very similar to one another.  The 1st c. solar eclipse was over the Southern Ocean; the 21st c. solar eclipse will be over the Norwegian Sea.  You can look all this stuff up for yourself at the links below.

Remember how I showed you that the First and Second Blood Moons were Medjugorje Anniversaries of the Blood Moons that marked the John 6 and John 7,8 events?  (See Sources below for links to my blogs. Click on graphics to embiggen.)

I explored the possibility that the upcoming Solar Eclipse and Third Blood Moon might also be Medjugorje matchers for the last weeks of Jesus life and again found remarkable similarities between the calendar dates and sky signs.

Like the first pair, the 1st century and 21st century calendars match each other and there is a corresponding one day earlier, first century solar and lunar eclipse for each.

The SECOND Blood Moon had a matcher too!

Yesterday, I wrote about the intriguing coincidence of dates, Jewish holidays and total lunar eclipses that showed up when I explored the idea that the first Blood Moon in Passover of April 2014 was on the Medjugorje anniversary of the middle Passover of Jesus’ public ministry. In particular, I found that in both cases, the April and Nisan dates matched exactly and there was a Blood Moon at the beginning of both Passovers. (See my blog “April/Nisan Matchers” @ https://polination.wordpress.com/2014/05/01/aprilnisan-matchers/.)

Today, I discovered that the second Blood Moon in Sukkot of October 2014 also has a Blood Moon matcher in the Sukkot of 32 CE. The events of Sukkot 32 CE are recounted in John 7-8; the Medjugorje anniversary of these events is Sukkot 2014 CE.

32 and 2014 Sukkot - John 7-8 and Medjugorje anniv

Note that the days/dates of the 1st c. Hebrew and Roman calendars match the days/dates of the 21st c. Hebrew and Roman calendars. E.g., Thursday, Tishri 1, was Thursday, Sept 25, in both centuries.

Note also that both centuries feature a Blood Moon occurring shortly before the beginning of the Festival of Sukkot and centering over the Pacific Ocean.

God commanded Moses on the Festival of Sukkot in Leviticus 23:34ff (excerpted here): “When you have gathered in the produce of the land, you shall celebrate for a whole week. For SEVEN days you shall offer an oblation to the Lord. You shall dwell in booths for SEVEN days, that your descendants may realize that, when I led the Israelites out of the land of Egypt, I made them dwell in booths. The first and the eighth days shall be declared holy days, days of rest. On the eighth day you shall offer an oblation to the LORD. It is the festival closing.”

Sukkot

The events of Sukkot in 32 CE are recounted in John 7-8. The last two days are of particular interest.

Tishri 21 (Hoshana Rabba):

The seventh day of Sukkot is known as the Great Day or Hoshana Rabba. Hoshana means SAVE US. On this day, the priests processed around the altar seven times, singing the Great Hoshana prayer. Then they poured living water over the altar with great pomp and ceremony. (“Living water” came from the spring-fed Pool of Siloam.)

John 7:37-38 says, “On the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood up and exclaimed, “Let anyone who thirsts come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as scripture says: ‘Rivers of living water will flow from within him.’” In other words, after the priests had poured out the libation of living water and begged God seven times to “SAVE US”, Jesus stood up and claimed before everyone there that He was the source of the living water of eternal salvation.

Tishri 22 (Shemini Atzeret):

Shemini Atzeret is the mysterious eighth day of the seven day festival of Sukkot. During the seven days, 70 sacrifices were offered for the nations of the world, which symbolized the universalism of Sukkot. On Shemini Atzeret, only one sacrifice was offered, which symbolized the need of each person for personal forgiveness.

John 8:1-11 says it was on Shemini Atzeret that the scribes and Pharisees brought to Jesus a woman caught in adultery. When Jesus challenged those who had never sinned to cast the first stone, “they went away one by one, beginning with the elders. So he was left alone with the woman before him. Then Jesus straightened up and said to her, ‘Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you’ She replied, ‘No one, sir.’ Then Jesus said, ‘Neither do I condemn you. Go, [and] from now on do not sin any more.'”

April/Nisan Matchers

I’ve mentioned a number of times that this or that event occurred during one of the “rare” years when the April and Nisan dates matched exactly. Every time I do this, Dearest asks me, “How rare is that?” Sigh. So I counted them. It took all week, mostly because my tolerance for repetitive tasks is very low and I had to take a lot of breaks. But I’m done now and the results are very interesting.

I used the dual calendars @ http://www.cgsf.org/dbeattie/calendar/. The Hebrew side matches the Rabbinic calendar which has been in use by the majority of the Jews since at least the 12th c. which the site guy projected backward mathematically. The Roman side is the Gregorian calendar back to 1582, then the Julian calendar which is accurate back to 26 BC. The Roman side prior to 26 BC is the Julian projected backwards mathematically, but it’s not accurate to the dates they were actually using, although given how often these pompous leaders changed their calenders to glorify themselves … meh.  You gotta love the Hebrew calendar. It was made to glorify GOD and they didn’t go changing it every time some new king took over.

Common calendar explained

The dates given @ http://www.cgsf.org/dbeattie/calendar/ may or may not match those in use at specific places and times by any given people. However, for my purposes — which is to match up Jewish and Catholic-Christian dates (particularly holidays), it works great.

Why do I bother?

Mainly because star charts prove the Magi visited Jesus in Bethlehem on December 25, 2 BC. This was a date that had no significance at the time, that was not recorded by history, and that nobody knew about until a curious lawyer with a laptop and astronomy software got obsessed with the Star of Bethlehem.

I figure that since God bothered to arrange to have the birth and death of His Son marked by the planets and stars and to have the date the Magi brought gifts be subsequently designated as the day we gift each other in honor of His birth, then maybe He’s got other goodies packed away in the skies and in the calendars.

Here’s what I found out about April-Nisan matchers.

They are RARE.  Between 63 BC and 2059 CE on the dual calendar I used, the days and dates of April and Nisan match exactly only 49 times (about 2%). (N.b., 64 BC and 2060 CE are matchers, but outside my area of interest, which begins with Jesus’ First Coming and continues until His Second Coming, which I am quite sure will be long before 2060. I only went backwards and forwards to find the next matchers to see where they were.)

Nisan April matchers

The spacing between matchers is totally unpredictable. The most common interval I found was 19 years, which I think is because the matchers mostly happen in Jewish leap years and those are based on a 19-year cycle.

  • The shortest interval was only 8 years, which happened only once and during Jesus’ pre-glorified lifetime.
  • The longest interval was 530 years, which happened all during the years when the Catholic hierarchy was at its most corrupt.

The breakdown by century also proved interesting.

  • NO matchers: 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th centuries.
  • TWO matchers each: 3rd, 4th, 9th, 10th, 11th centuries.
  • THREE matchers each: 5th, 7th, 20th centuries.
  • FOUR matchers each: 2d, 6th, 8th, 17th, 18th, 19th centuries.

The two outliers were the 1st century with FIVE and the 21st century with ONE.

That right there is pretty interesting in a Jesus First and Second Coming kinda way. (N.b., If the 21st were to last, it would have three, but I don’t think we’ll even get to 2030, much less 2100.)

Three of the matchers in the 1st century (13, 21, 32 CE) occurred during Jesus pre-glorified lifetime. For two of them (13 and 32 CE), we have specific information about what significance they had in Jesus’ life.

  • Passover of Nisan 3773 HY (April 13 CE): Jesus (having turned 13 the previous summer) went to Passover in Jerusalem for the first time as a bar mitzvah.

Luke 2:41 says, “Each year his parents went to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover.” It was likely a minimum 5 day trip each way by foot/donkey, particularly for a group that included women and children, so they almost certainly did not go to Jerusalem for any of the other high holy days. Therefore, this April-Nisan matcher Passover was almost certainly the first time Jesus entered the Temple as an adult man under Jewish law.

  • Passover of Nisan 3792 HY (April 32 CE): The events of this time are recorded in John 6.

Jesus did not go to Jerusalem for the festival, but stayed in Galilee where he fed the multitude with five barley loaves and two fish, walked on water, then gave an explicit Eucharistic teaching in the synagogue at Capernaum that shocked many of His followers into abandoning Him.

On Preparation Day – Nisan 14, 3792 HY / April 14, 32 CE – the date of the John 6 events, there was a Blood Moon.

On Passover Day – Nisan 15, 5774 HY / April 15, 2014 CE – the Medjugorje anniversary of the John 6 events, there was a Blood Moon.

BOTH of these events occurred during April-Nisan matchers.  Even more astonishing, the paths of the Blood Moons were remarkably similar!
