Supreme Court Overwhelmingly Rules in Favor of Colorado Baker in Wedding Cake Case

The Supreme Court has ruled 7-2 in favor of Colorado baker and devout Christian Jack Phillips, who declined to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple five years ago due to deeply held religious objections.

Bits & Bytes

I’ve been out of commission for quite a while, but I’m feeling somewhat better now and trying to get caught up. My email has a ginormous backlog, what with all the stuff I subscribe to and the multitudinous pictures from recent family celebrations.

The Buzzers got to spend Easter with their Texas cousins. Mama Buzz said the kids were super good travelers and they all had a wonderful vacation!

2018_03 27 A&A on plane

Most of the e-subscription stuff is just going into the trash, cuz I can’t deal with it all. But some is kinda interesting, so here’s a sampling.

TRUMP ECONOMY: The U.S. unemployment rate in February marked a 17-year low. The number of Americans rating the economy good to excellent has hit an 18-year high. Average job growth numbers in 2018 are the strongest since 1997. Since January 2017, more than 2.5 million jobs have been added to the economy.

CUTTING SPENDING: White House chief economic adviser Larry Kudlow said White House officials and Congressional Republicans are putting together legislation to rescind spending from the $1.3 trillion omnibus budget they recently passed. A rescission bill could not be filibustered by Senate Democrats.

DEMOCRAT HYPOCRISY: President Donald J. Trump announced Tuesday that he will deploy U.S. troops to reinforce the Mexican border. Democrats acted like he had set a cross ablaze on someone’s lawn. But in 2010, President Obama deployed 1,200 National Guard troops and requested an extra $500 million to secure the Mexican border. One of my military kids who has served down there voiced disgust at the liberal head explosions. “We’ve had troops on the border for ages!”

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY WIN: Air Force Col. Leland Bohannon was on the verge of being promoted to a one-star general when he was suspended from command in 2017 for refusing to publicly affirm the same-sex spouse of a retiring subordinate. Thankfully, the Air Force has reversed its decision to punish this highly-decorated and respected officer.

ANTI-CHRISTIAN BIGOTRY: In 2016, after a young Muslim jihadist shot up a gay nightclub in Orlando, the Left Stream Media blamed it on Christians and Republicans, who allegedly have fostered such a climate of anti-gay hatred that this poor little Muslim jihadist could not help himself. But during the trial, it became clear that it was a terrorist attack, pure and simple. The shooter had originally intended to shoot up the Disney Springs shopping and entertainment complex and had switched to the gay nightclub randomly less than an hour before the attack. It is not clear he even knew it was a gay bar. Don’t hold your breath waiting for the Left to apologize to the millions of Americans they slandered unjustly.

The fight to preserve our religious liberties is real

Someone on Facebook asked the Tennes family, owners of Country Mill Farms, what they believe about marriage. As Catholics, they said they believe it is a sacred union between one man and one woman.

2018_03 Tennes family

Upon seeing the Tennes’ comment on Facebook, the City of East Lansing decided to ban Country Mill from its Farmer’s Market.

The Alliance Defending Freedom took quick legal action on behalf of the Tennes family. Just two days after hearing their request, a federal judge ordered East Lansing to allow Country Mill to return to the farmer’s market while their civil liberties lawsuit against East Lansing proceeds.

The Alliance Defending Freedom has a strong record of success in defending our religious freedom. But it takes money. Fortunately, a Christian group has pledged to match every dollar ADF raises for the Tennes family’s defense, up to $2 million.

Go here to donate to the Tennes’ defense fund:

The Alliance Defending Freedom, founded in 1994, is a non-profit, civil rights organization with a four out of four star rating from Charity Navigator. The group has been involved in 31 victories before the U.S. Supreme Court, and hundreds more in the lower courts.

How far has the corruption of our nation progressed …

… that anyone would think we actually need a law to protect our First Amendment rights.

Marriage protest signs

Sen. Mike Lee of Utah and 21 Republican co-sponsors have re-introduced The First Amendment Defense Act which went nowhere in 2015.

The legislation would

  • “ensure” that the federal government could not take discriminatory action against anybody who “speaks, or acts, in accordance with a sincerely held religious belief or moral conviction that marriage is or should be recognized as a union of one man and one woman or two individuals as recognized under Federal law” and
  • prohibit any action against those who believe that sexual relations outside marriage are improper.

When he was running for president in the 2016 race, President Donald Trump said he would sign the measure if it passes both the House and Senate.

Religious Freedom and Marriage in Federal Law by Thomas Messner – January 30, 2014

“Legal recognition of same-sex marriage will increase the potential for conflicts with religious freedom. The majority opinion in the recent U.S. Supreme Court case United States v. Windsor intensifies these concerns by characterizing traditional marriage policy as a form of irrational prejudice.”

Since the 2016 election, Facebook, Google and Twitter have been punishing conservative websites and pundits by cutting their social media traffic, blocking their stories from going viral, demonetizing videos, and shutting down accounts. A majority of Americans now support the GOP-Trump tax cuts. 51% approve, 46% disapprove.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) launched the Conscience and Religious Freedom Division on January 18, 2018. So far, it has received complaints from more than 300 health workers. HHS officials said the new division was necessary to protect health workers whose rights weren’t enforced during the Obama administration. Violations can result in a service provider losing government funding.

The Way It Is

In keeping with my policy, I’m not posting any links to the investigations going on in Congress because there’s really no point. We’ve found what we all knew to be true, that Obama didn’t have a presidential administration, but a criminal enterprise. Using phony information to spy on Trump people, collusion between the White House, FBI, and DOJ to make sure Hillary would never be charged with anything; Lynch announcing she’d abide by whatever decision Comey came to when she was told months earlier what the outcome of the sham investigation would be. Felonies piled on felonies. It’s laughable to think that any investigation will result in any indictments. Even if they were, you’d never get a judge or jury in DC to convict a Democrat. So it’s all bullcrap. Enough said.

DC ‘Made Men’ Like James Clapper Don’t Get Charged For Committing Open Perjury

Former National Intelligence Director James Clapper is about to celebrate one of the most important anniversaries of his life. March 13th will be the fifth anniversary of his commission of open perjury before the Senate Intelligence Committee. More importantly, it also happens to be when the statute of limitations runs out — closing any possibility of prosecution for Clapper

Schumer’s shutdown reveals: Democrats will destroy America just to spite Trump
The Schumer shutdown has revealed the totality of the Democrats’ agenda: animosity and amnesty.

When President Trump set out to deliver historic tax cuts for the American people, Democrats sat on their hands, rather than participating in the legislative process.

We already knew the Washington Democrats hated Trump. Now we know they oppose not just the president, but American government, the American people and even the very concept of American citizenship as well.

They call Americans “deplorables” and illegal immigrants “Dreamers.” That tells you everything you need to know about the Democrats’ upside-down world view.

“I think my first initiative as first lady will be cyberbullying because I have yet to see any progress on that problem quite yet,” Bell joked early in her speech.

Trump Rejects NBC’s Request for Pre-Super Bowl Interview

CAN’T SAY I BLAME HIM. IT WOULD NOT BE SO MUCH AN INTERVIEW AS AN INTERROGATION. NOT AT ALL LIKE THE HUGGING AND CARESSING OBAMA WAS ALWAYS TREATED TO.

The White House has at present, according to a person familiar with the matter, indicated to NBC News that President Donald Trump will not take part in a recent Super Bowl ritual: a pre-game interview between the commander-in-chief and the news unit of the network hosting the game.

If Trump had agreed to the interview, he probably would have been grilled about his opposition to NFL players protesting when the National Anthem is played before games, as well as about his political policies, Variety says.

When MRC analyzed all evening news coverage of the President in 2017, we found that 87.8 percent of Trump’s coverage on the NBC Nightly News was negative, compared to a mere 12.2 percent that was positive.

Sec. Zinke Will Spend The Government Shutdown Ensuring The WWII Memorial, National Parks, Stay Open

No Barrycades this time. Just one more demonstration of how Obama had no problem hurting people for his political agenda.

In the first hours of the government shutdown, Secretary Zinke was making plans for how to keep America’s public parks open. In the early hours of Saturday morning, Zinke met with public affairs and maintenance staff to run through a plan to keep memorials on the National Mall open. He then spoke with garbagemen who will be picking up trash on the Mall one last time before the city of D.C. takes over for them.

Zinke then got into his car and drove to the WWII memorial to greet visitors and hand out maps and helped with directions. “I spent the morning walking around, giving brochures out,” Zinke said. “I got a lot of thanks from both sides of the aisle. We will not weaponize our public lands.”

Trump Campaign Slams Democrats As ‘Complicit’ In Murders By Illegal Aliens In Explosive New Ad

President Trump’s re-election campaign released a new ad on Saturday slamming Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and other Democrats as “complicit” in future murders committed by illegal immigrants.

The ad featured Luis Bracamontes, an illegal immigrant on trial for killing two police officers who told a judge he only wished he “had killed more of the mother******s.”

Dem street fighting meets match in Trump

For years, Democrats have successfully used government shutdowns to slap wimpy Republicans around and paint them as cold, ineffectual cream puffs who don’t care about the regular people who depend on a functioning government.

Remember the political theater of the 2013 government shutdown, when veterans and little kids were barricaded out of the national monuments and Nancy Pelosi was calling the Republicans legislative arsonists?

That’s not going to work with the bad hombre in the White House — he was born to brawl.

Democrats did their best to fill the news cycle with distracting toxicity leading up to the shutdown we’re in, but it didn’t take. People see it for what it is. Disgraceful political opportunism. Democratic senators don’t oppose much of the spending bill at all, and they pretended there was moral urgency with DACA.

[CtH: Among the MOST pathetic examples was CNN warning us that we could be hit by an UNDETECTED asteroid!  Cuz, you know, if it was detected, we’d be able to do something about it.  Oh wait.   No we couldn’t.  It would still hit us.  We’d just know about it a little sooner.]

Weaponizing the Shutdown

If a government shuts down in the forest and nobody hears it, that’s the sound of liberty dying. The so-called shutdown is, as noted last week, mostly baloney: Eighty-three percent of the supposedly defunded government is carrying on as usual, impervious to whatever restraints the people’s representatives might wish to impose, and the 800,000 soi-disant “non-essential” workers have been assured that, as soon as the government is once again lawfully funded, they will be paid in full for all the days they’ve had at home.

Trump Calls for ‘Nuclear Option’ if Democrats Continue Shutdown

By invoking the “nuclear option,” Senate Republicans would change the rules of the Senate so that it would only take a 51-vote majority to pass a bill and it would no longer be required to get 60 votes to end debate on it.

“The Dems just want illegal immigrants to pour into our nation unchecked,” Trump said in the tweet. “If the stalemate continues, Republicans should to 51% (Nuclear Option) and vote on real, long term budget, no C.R.’s”

Making California Mexico Again

“No barriers between California and Mexico” for leftist Democrats.

In this view, Mexicans who violate U.S. immigration law are only entering their own country and not illegal in any sense. They are therefore entitled to education, medical care, drivers’ licenses, welfare, and in-state college tuition. False-documented illegals also vote in federal, state and local elections, the imported electorate of California’s ruling class Democrats. California secretary of state Alex Padilla conveniently refuses to reveal voter information and will not cooperate with federal probes of voter fraud.

[CtH: Funny thing how it doesn’t work the other way.  Americans who enter Mexico illegally go to jail.]

Trump HHS Announces “New Conscience and Religious Freedom Division”
HHS moves from “pro-life antagonist to advocate.”

During his presidential campaign, then-candidate Trump repeatedly spoke of his intent to support life should he be elected. This week he took another huge step in fulfilling this promise with his HHS’s announcement of a new conscience and religious freedom division.

Additionally, the HHS has announced that it will roll back another Obama era policy: HHS will no longer freeze out states that seek to defund Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers. Last year, the president signed a bill allowing states to defund Planned Parenthood.

Former Military Lawyers: Chelsea Manning Subject To Prosecution For Running For Office

While Manning’s felony conviction does not appear to automatically disqualify a run for office, his active-duty status presents a much more troubling issue. Such a status, in other words, has enormous implications for engaging in any kind of political activity, especially a Senate run.

That paragraph is punitive and violation of it subjects her to courts-martial for violation of a lawful order or regulation under Article 92,” Brenner-Beck told TheDCNF. “Her activities campaigning for herself and fundraising for herself may also violate other provisions of the DoD Directive, themselves separately punishable under the UCMJ, art. 92.”

On SNL, it dawns on the left that its tantrum over Trump is falling flat

I watched the opening segment last night, which was a mirthless five-minute take attempting to convince us President Trump was dumb. Later on in the program, at the half-hour mark, the second political skit, led by actress and guest host Jessica Chastain was more interesting.

Using the format of a cheesy game show with a panel of three contestants, Chastain asked her contenders in the five-minute segment whether this or that action of President Trump’s “matters anymore.”

The skit moves on to ever more outrageous scenarios, none of which “matter anymore” to highlight that the public doesn’t give a darn about the media’s frenzy at President Trump’s tweets or its slambook-style leaks of his offhand supposed remarks. In the course of the drama, Chastain gets more and more wound up at how Trump gets away with whatever it is the left says he gets away with and near the end of the skit swigs a booze bottle to drown her exasperated sorrows as the contestants try to comfort her.

Trump: Protecting and Upholding Free Speech

Freedom of speech

Trump’s USDA has issued a strong policy overturning Obama’s attempt to silence conservative speech in the workplace.

Opinions about same-sex marriage, gender identity, and sexual morality are all matters of public importance,” the policy states. “USDA respects the First Amendment rights of USDA personnel, as well as non-USDA personnel working at facilities inspected by USDA, to share their varying viewpoints on these topics, whether through oral discussion, the display or distribution of literature, or other means.”

The document makes official a wide definition of sincerely held beliefs. “Under federal regulations, religious beliefs include theistic beliefs (such as those that include a belief in God) as well as non-theistic ‘moral or ethical beliefs as to what is right and wrong which are sincerely held with the strength of traditional religious views.’”

The free speech guidelines were made necessary because of the Obama government’s threat to run a Christian meat packer out of business over a pro-marriage pamphlet on a break-room table.

ACLU shows its true colors (again)

Allegedly, the A in ACLU stands for American. Their record shows it really stands for Anti-Christian.

ACLU Anti-Christian

In the past, the ACLU has represented gay couples in lawsuits against Christians who refused certain services to them.

But they’ve had NOTHING to say about the gay coffee shop owner who loudly, rudely, and profanely evicted a group of Christians who were quietly enjoying coffee!

Warning! This video contains extremely graphic, hate-filled, blasphemous language.

Religious Liberty Restored!

2017_10 09 Religious Liberty Restored

President Trump has delivered!

The HHS Mandate will no longer be enforced against organizations with a sincerely held religious or moral objection. The exemption must be granted to anyone with a reasonable objection who requests it. The days of pleading for a waiver are over.

What’s more, Attorney General Jeff Sessions issued a powerful memorandum about religious liberty to all federal agencies and departments. Among other things, it says:

  • The freedom of religion is an important, fundamental right, expressly protected by federal law.
  • The freedom of religion extends to persons and organizations.
  • Government may not officially favor or disfavor particular religious groups.
  • Religious employers are entitled to employ only persons whose beliefs and conduct are consistent with the employers’ religious precepts.
  • The federal government may not condition federal grants or contracts on the religious organization altering its religious character, beliefs, or activities.

The burden of proof has finally shifted back to the government where it belongs. This is a great leap forward for our First Amendment right to religious freedom.
