A Big Day for America at SCOTUS

When Justice Antonin Scalia died suddenly last year, I was heartbroken. Perhaps crestfallen isn’t too strong a word. We had lost a staunch, unapologetic conservative voice. With the prospect of a Hillary Clinton dictatorship hanging over our heads, all I could see was the court lurching even farther to the left. At the time no one could foresee the phenomenon that would be Donald Trump stunning the entire world by soundly thumping Obama’s heir apparent. I do not believe another person in the country would have had what it took to win … brash, determined, a viable message of success for the American worker and the guts to tell the chattering class to kiss his ass, political correctness be damned. Remarkably, Mitch McConnell put off hearings on Scalia’s replacement over the wailing and gnashing of teeth by Democrats demanding Obama get the chance to plant another liberal shill on the court.

THE LAST DAY OF THIS SESSION WAS A BUSY ONE

SCOTUS substantially reinstated all of Trump’s Travel Order.

The Court also substantially lifted the injunctions, except to persons who already have a bona fide connection to the U.S.

Trump: Decision To Let Travel Ban Take Effect Is ‘Clear Victory For Our National Security’

“As President, I cannot allow people into our country who want to do us harm. I want people who can love the United States and all of its citizens, and who will be hardworking and productive,” Trump said. “My number one responsibility as Commander in Chief is to keep the American people safe.”

Supreme Court justices side with church in playground dispute

A clear majority of Supreme Court justices ruled against Missouri’s refusal to include a Lutheran church in a grant program that reimburses non-profit groups for installing rubber playground surfaces.

SCOTUS: Blocking Church Daycare From Grant Money Is ‘Odious to Our Constitution’

Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the majority opinion and explicitly said that denying money for religious reasons is unconstitutional.

“The exclusion of Trinity Lutheran from a public benefit for which it is otherwise qualified, solely because it is a church, is odious to our Constitution … and cannot stand,” Roberts wrote.

Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sonia Sotomayor dissented from the majority. Sotomayor read her dissent from the bench and argued that the ruling imperils the separation of church and state.

Supreme Court Will Hear a Same-Sex Wedding Cake Case

After turning down similar appeals, the justices have decided to take on this case.

Back in 2012, Charlie Craig and David Mullins asked Phillips to make them a wedding cake. The two “planned to marry in Massachusetts but then have a reception in their home state of Colorado.” They had to marry in another state because Colorado did not even recognize same-sex unions until 2014.

Phillips said no since “it would violate his religious beliefs.”

Buzzfeed continued:

Represented by the ACLU, the couple filed a complaint with the Colorado Civil Rights Commission, which found in 2014 the baker ran afoul of the state law banning discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.  A Colorado appeals court upheld that decision, saying that if the baker “wishes to operate as a public accommodation and conduct business within the State of Colorado, [the ColoradoAnti-Discrimination Act] prohibits it from picking and choosing customers based on their sexual orientation.”

The court added the law “does not impose burdens on religious conduct not imposed on secular conduct.”

The Alliance Defending Freedom may bring another appeal to the Supreme Court. Its lawyers represent “a florist in Washington State who turned away a gay couple seeking flowers for their wedding.” The state supreme court ruled against her and the group has stated that it will “appeal to the Supreme Court.”

Supreme Court declines to take up two Second Amendment cases

The Supreme Court declined Monday to take up two Second Amendment cases for next term.

The first case dealt with a San Diego ordinance that required San Diego gun owners to have a good reason to carry a concealed firearm outside the home.

The second case concerned two men from Pennsylvania who challenged the scope of a federal law that bans felons and some individuals charged with misdemeanors from possessing firearms.

Justice Thomas Calls Out The Supreme Court For Not Believing In The Second Amendment

“For those of us who work in marbled halls, guarded constantly by a vigilant and dedicated police force, the guarantees of the Second Amendment might seem antiquated and superfluous,” Thomas wrote after most members of the court declined to hear the California case.

“But the Framers made a clear choice: They reserved to all Americans the right to bear arms for self-defense. I do not think we should stand by idly while a State denies its citizens that right, particularly when their very lives may depend on it,” Thomas said.

Justice Neil Gorsuch, the Court’s newest member, joined Thomas’ statement on the court’s refusal to hear the case, calling the decision by the 9th circuit on Peruta v. San Diego “indefensible.”

I’ve heard that Trump very soon may be nominating another SCOTUS nominee. Kennedy may be retiring. Crypt keeper’s Mother Ginsberg will be rotting in her chair before the crone retires.

The Belfast Bakers

In 2014, a Christian bakery was charged with discrimination after declining to make a cake supporting gay marriage.

In 2015, the court found them guilty and fined them for causing “injury to feelings.”  The bakery owners, Daniel and Amy McArthur, a husband and wife team, appealed.

The U.K. Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing for October 2017 to consider taking up the case.

However, there is more to the story.  In 2015, the company posted profits of £1.3 million.  In 2016, their profits rose to £1.5 million.

  • The rise in U.S. dollars is approximately $220,000.
  • The company owes approximately $163,000 in legal fees.

National Day of Prayer, Part 2

From President Trump’s Proclamation of May 4, 2017 as the National Day of Prayer:

We are also reminded and reaffirm that all human beings have the right, not only to pray and worship according to their consciences, but to practice their faith in their homes, schools, charities, and businesses in private and in the public square free from government coercion, discrimination, or persecution.  Religion is not merely an intellectual exercise, but also a practical one that demands action in the world.

2017_05 04 Trump signs religious freedom order

President Trump celebrated today by signing a religious liberty executive order that will protect Christian organizations like the Little Sisters of the Poor from being forced to pay for abortions.

“Freedom is not a gift from government. It is a gift from God,” Trump said in signing the order. “We are here to defend the rights of all Americans.”

“Finally, the federal government realizes the immoral and insane mandate that forces organizations like the Little Sisters of the Poor to include contraception and abortifacients in their healthcare plans,” he said. “This step today starts the process of reversing the devastating trend set by the last administration to punish charities, pastors, family owned businesses and honest, hard-working people simply for living according to their faith. This trend is in part why 60 percent of Trump voters in the last election said they were more likely to vote for him because the GOP platform is very clear on religious liberty and unborn life.”

The House of Representatives celebrated by passing their partial repeal and replace of Obamacare.  While it does not go as far as Conservatives would like, it does defund Planned Parenthood and ensure that Obamacare won’t cover abortions.

National Day of Prayer

The media whined and screamed during his entire reign of terror that Obama was a CHRISTIAN!

He showed what he was on several occasions by cancelling the day of prayer, but never, not once, missed celebrating a Muslim holiday. Everybody knew it; they just wouldn’t admit it.

Trump To Sign Executive Order That Allows Churches To Endorse Political Candidates

Donald Trump will mark the National Day of Prayer by signing an executive order that scales back the restrictions placed on churches that prevent them from being politically active in order to maintain their tax-exempt status.
BEING POLITICALLY ACTIVE HAS NEVER BEEN A PROBLEM FOR BLACK CHURCHES. THEY GET AWAY WITH ANYTHING.

The order directs the Internal Revenue Service to use “maximum enforcement discretion” over the amendment, but it also gives religious organizations “regulatory relief” from an Obama administration mandate that required them to provide their employees with health coverage that included contraception.

Trump promised repeatedly throughout the campaign to “destroy” the Johnson Amendment because he believes it threatens the freedom of religion. However, it would require an act of Congress to completely repeal the amendment.

“I will get rid of and totally destroy the Johnson Amendment and allow our representatives of faith to speak freely and without fear of retribution,” Trump said just days after he took office at the National Prayer Breakfast.

OF COURSE, FAITH IN GOD IS NOT IN THE DEMOCRAT PLATFORM

Dems tout Day of Reason as alternative to National Day of Prayer

Democratic Rep. Ted Lieu (Calif.) is pushing a resolution to designate May 4 as the National Day of Reason as a response to the National Day of Prayer.

Lieu thanked Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) and Reps. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) and Humanists for Climate Action on Twitter for supporting his resolution to recognize “the importance of reason in the betterment of humanity.”

TED LIEU IS THE ANTI-GUN ZEALOT WHO WAS INVOLVED IN GUN-RUNNING WITH A VIOLENT CHINESE GANG

The resolution encourages people to use the day to focus on “the employment of reason, critical thought, the scientific method and free inquiry to the resolution of human problems and for the welfare of humankind.”

“There is no doubt that emotions and passions play an important role in American politics,” Lieu said in a statement linked to the tweet.

Donald Trump’s administration has secured the freedom of an Egyptian-US charity worker who was detained for nearly three years in Cairo.
Aya Hijazi, 30, was flown back to the US on Thursday night with her family on a US government jet.
Ms Hijazi, whose charity cared for street children, faced child abuse charges branded false by rights groups.
Her release was reportedly agreed before Mr Trump met Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi this month.

Students vote to give blacks free tuition at Western Kentucky University
The school’s Student Government Association passed a resolution by 19-10 supporting slavery reparations for black students in the form of free tuition and free access to the public Bowling Green campus.
The resolution also recommends that the university create a task force to “assess the feasibility of test-optional admissions and geographically-weighted admissions,” claiming that some standardized testing poses a disadvantage for needy students and perpetuates inequality and “white supremacy,” The Bowling Green Daily News reported.
“We demand reparations for the systemic denial of access to high quality educational opportunities in the form of full and free access for all black people (including undocumented, currently and formerly incarcerated people to Western Kentucky University),” the resolution reads, according to the Daily News.

Trump picks pro-life conservative to lead HHS civil rights office

Roger Severino

President Trump has appointed social conservative Roger Severino to head the Office of Civil Rights of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Severino, who served as director of the DeVos Center for Religion and Civil Society at the conservative Heritage Foundation, has written and published extensively against leftist “gender ideology” and the Obama administration’s promotion of transgenderism in the military.

He previously worked as CEO and legal counsel for the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, one of the world’s premier legal organizations defending religious freedom.

Leftie heads are exploding.
