More FAKE NEWS from CNN

Following the vote to rescind Obama era regulations on the internet, FCC chairman Ajit Pai issued this statement:

It’s difficult to match that mundane reality to the apocalyptic rhetoric that we’ve heard from Title II supporters. And as the debate has gone on, their claims have gotten more and more outlandish. So let’s be clear. Returning to the legal framework that governed the Internet from President Clinton’s pronouncement in 1996 until 2015 is not going to destroy the Internet. It is not going to end the Internet as we know it. It is not going to kill democracy. It is not going to stifle free expression online. If stating these propositions alone doesn’t demonstrate their absurdity, our Internet experience before 2015, and our experience tomorrow, once this order passes, will prove them so.

This is how CNN reported it:

2017_12 CNN net neutrality fake news

From what I’ve read, the Obama-era regulations favored the biggest internet providers while stifling investment by the kinds of small companies that were willing to extend better service to rural areas.  That sounds typical of something Democrats would do, doesn’t it?  Anyway, I can believe this is what the regs actually accomplished, because I’ve got a friend who lives in the boonies who, can you believe this, still has DIAL UP.  Her connection is so slow that, if I want to send her a photo, I have to reformat it so the file is less than 100 kb.

FCC Repeals Net Neutrality

On Thursday, the Federal Communications Commission voted to repeal the Obama-era net neutrality rules that imposed greater regulation over the internet.

No big surprise, the vote was along party lines, with Democrats favoring the FCC’s 2015 heavy-handed, utility-style regulation of broadband internet access service and Republicans favoring returning to the traditional light-touch framework that was in place until 2015.

The 2015 regulations led to regulatory uncertainty and less investment in broadband, plus hampered innovation among smaller ISPs in rural areas.

Two presidents; one current, one former. As water seeks its own level, so too do people ultimately settle into their comfort zone. What a difference a day makes. As a final FU to the country, Obama sent $221 million to Abbas and the Palestinian Authority. If you are worried about what he’s been doing the last three days, fear not…. he soldiers on.

Melania Trump Is Fashionable, But She’s Unlikely To Become A Fashion Icon Like Michelle Obama

Today, America gets a new First Lady. She’s beautiful – a former model! – with an impeccable wardrobe and the money to buy all the couture she wants. So why, when President Trump and his family are long out of the White House, and his administration is enshrined in the annals of history, will Michelle Obama – a woman with no connection to the fashion industry before she came into public view – be remembered as the more iconic of the two?

It’s simple. Becoming an icon is about more than just a pretty face and an international platform.

Glad to see Obama go, Gulf Arabs expect Trump to counter Iran

Saudi Arabia in particular appears relieved at the departure of Barack Obama, who it felt considered Riyadh’s alliance with Washington less important than negotiating a deal in 2015 to neutralize Iran’s nuclear program.

The relationship is a pillar of the Middle East’s security balance. But it has suffered since Riyadh took issue with what it saw as Obama’s withdrawal from the region, and a perceived inclination towards Iran since the 2011 Arab uprisings.

While expected, the appointment aligns with signs that Trump’s FCC would roll back Obama-era policies — most notably the 2015 Open Internet Order, which set today’s net-neutrality rules.
Broadly speaking, those laws regulate the internet as a public utility. More practically, they’re meant to keep internet service providers from blocking or slowing down certain content — which could benefit services owned by an ISP itself — or forcing others to pay fees to receive preferential treatment.

Burns began, “For 216 years, our elections—though bitterly contested—have featured the philosophies and characters of candidates who were clearly qualified.” He added, “That is not the case this year.” Burns encouraged Stanford grads to work to defeat Trump saying, “Before you do anything with your well-earned degree you must do everything you can to defeat the retrograde forces that have invaded our democratic process….”

COURT UPHOLDS NET NEUTRALITY RULES ON EQUAL INTERNET ACCESS
In a big win for the Obama administration, a federal appeals court on Tuesday upheld the government’s “net neutrality” rules that require internet providers to treat all web traffic equally. The 2-1 ruling from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit is a victory for consumer groups and content companies such as Netflix that want to prevent online content from being blocked or channeled into fast and slow lanes.

Jeh Johnson: Gun Control Is Now ‘Part and Parcel of Homeland Security’

“With great respect, Mr. Secretary, you are head of Homeland Security. What do you think?” Rose asked.

“I believe that meaningful, responsible gun control is part of homeland security, and it’s something we have to address,” Johnson said.

King asked if this was a new public stance for him.

“I have not talked about gun control publicly at this point, but I think that we have to face the fact that gun control is part and parcel of homeland security and how things are evolving,” Johnson said.

He added later he did not want to infringe on the rights of “responsible” gun owners.

CPAC 2015 : A REVIEW

In case you were interested in anything, here’s some of the video and related commentary.

Cruz: “The Next 20 Months Are Going to Be Very Dangerous”

You know, prior presidents have been repudiated [and] they’ve reacted with contrition. [P]resident Obama, instead, reacted with anger and defiance.”

“I believe the next 20 months we are going to see a degree of lawlessness that will exceed anything we’ve seen in the previous six years,” he continued. “I think we’re going to see executive order after executive order. I think we’re going to see the abuse of regulations in a way that crushes small businesses, destroys jobs. I think we are going to see the continued weaponization of the IRS in the federal government, and it is going to be dangerous.”

The Wisconsin governor continued his pivot toward the right in his CPAC speech Thursday, and the crowd loved it.
“Here in America there is a reason we celebrate the Fourth of July and not April 15th,” Walker said. “Because in America, we celebrate our independence from the government, not our dependence on it.”

Walker got an unexpected opportunity to flex his legendary anti-union muscles on stage when protesters interrupted his speech by shouting from the crowd.

“Those voices cannot drown out the millions of Americans who want us to stand up for the hardworking taxpayers,” Walker said to the protesters.

Obama’s internet power grab

Net neutrality FCC toon

Dan Bongino posted this on his Facebook:

It’s happening again.

Despite record low trust in government, the epic failure of Obamacare, an IRS targeting scandal, the targeting of journalists at the AP and Fox News, NSA overreach, and Washington DC dysfunctionality at near historic levels, the government will change the Internet forever starting tomorrow when it releases its plan to regulate what was once a free and open Internet.

If you believe that this plan, which is deceptively called ‪#‎NetNeutrality‬, is in any way “neutral” or fair, I encourage you to use a search engine (which is still free, no thanks to government) to search the phrase “broken government promises.” This plan is an adventure in crony-capitalism disguised, and creatively marketed, as a “David vs.Goliath” fight against ISPs just like Obamacare was supposed to be a fight against health insurance companies. What they’re not telling you is that the companies fighting for “Net Neutrality” have an enormous financial interest in its implementation, just as some health insurance industry and pharmaceutical industry supporters backed Obamacare.

Eventually the government, as it typically does, turned on the doctors, health insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies and left them holding the bag, just like it will turn on the companies fighting for Net Neutrality. Jonathan Gruber’s videos explain how this was the Obama administration’s plan the entire time; lie to the people, get their vote and support, screw them over, and then get them to blame anyone other than government.

Internet taxes, a licensing requirement for websites, and the heavy foot of government on the face of the Internet is inevitable if Net Neutrality is allowed to stand.  And, to all of those “government knows what’s best for me” types who claim this is a good idea remember, you are as responsible as they are for opening the door and letting them in. They will never leave your house once that door has been opened.

Right after I wrote the above, I saw this in my email from Mozilla:

We accomplished what seemed impossible: we stood together, took on the goliaths, and won.

This was no small feat. It was the biggest show of public engagement the FCC had ever seen — a mass movement of historic proportions. Millions of public comments flooded Washington on this issue. By banding together, we’ve helped to keep the Web open and accessible for everyone, equally.

THE BEGINNING OF THE END

It will take place Thursday without much fanfare in the media. It will signal the Chosen One’s greatest usurpation of power since Obamacare. The FCC is set to vote on new ‘net neutrality’ rules which will make broadband more expensive, far slower and the point of the whole thing is to impose regulations to restrict the free speech rights of ordinary citizens. You can’t say the bastard didn’t have a plan to completely dismantle our liberties. For a long time the FCC had four members, two democrats and two republicans and not much happened. Then,if memory serves,he used one of his infamous recess appointments to install his personal stooge to tip the balance to do his bidding. He’s seized healthcare, will push amnesty through,is handing Iran nuclear weapons capability,is bent on sacrificing Israel for the ambitions of his muslim brothers and he’s about to make sure dissent of the government is stifled. This blog has been a big part of my life for a very long time. I don’t have much time left and at this point the future is in somebody else’s hands. There’s nothing we can do about it.

Republican FCC Commissioners Ask Wheeler To Delay Net Neutrality Vote, Release Proposal

Three days before the Federal Communications Commission is scheduled to vote on the most significant Internet regulations in history, two commissioners are asking Chairman Tom Wheeler to delay the vote and release his proposal to the public.

“We respectfully request that FCC leadership immediately release the 332-page Internet regulation plan publicly and allow the American people a reasonable period of not less than 30 days to carefully study it,” Republican Commissioners Ajit Pai and Michael O’Rielly said in a statement Monday. “Then, after the commission reviews the specific input it receives from the American public and makes any modifications to the plan as appropriate, we could proceed to a final vote.” (RELATED: FCC/FEC Commissioners: Net Neutrality Regs Threaten Political Free Speech Online)

The commission is set to vote on Wheeler’s aggressive proposal — which will regulate Internet service providers as public utilities and set new standards for speed and pricing — on Thursday, when it is expected to pass by a partisan vote of 3-2. (RELATED: Republican FCC Commissioner Slams ‘Obama’s 332-Page Plan To Regulate The Internet’)

“With the future of the entire Internet at stake, it is imperative that the FCC get this right,” the commissioners said. “And to do that, we must live up to the highest standards of transparency. Transparency is particularly important here because the plan in front of us right now is so drastically different than the proposal the FCC adopted and put out for public comment last May.” (RELATED: FCC Votes For New ‘Net Neutrality’ Regulations)

The FCC traditionally never releases proposed regulations prior to their implementation, prompting Pai to spend the weeks since Wheeler laid out the foundation of the plan to point out its most aggressive regulations in press releases and op-eds with commissioners from fellow agencies. Obama’s regs will make Internet slow as in Europe, warn FCC, FEC commissioners

“These Internet regulations will deter broadband deployment, depress network investment and slow broadband speeds. How do we know? Compare Europe, which has long had utility-style regulations, with the United States, which has embraced a light-touch regulatory model. Broadband speeds in the United States, both wired and wireless, are significantly faster than those in Europe. Broadband investment in the United States is several multiples that of Europe. And broadband’s reach is much wider in the United States, despite its much lower population density,” the two wrote.

They also joined to warn about the Democrat-chaired Federal Election Commission eyeing regulation of political speech on the Internet.
