Forget the deductions; take the kids

(This letter to the IRS was written by Bob Mullen and first appeared in the book Chicken Soup for the Parent’s Soul.)

Dear sirs:

I am responding to your letter denying the deduction for two of the three dependents I claimed on my Federal Tax return. All I have to say is, thank you. I have questioned whether or not these are my children for years. They are evil and expensive. It’s only fair, since they are minors and no longer my responsibility, that the government should know something about them and what to expect over the next year. Please do not try to reassign them to me next year and reinstate the deduction. They are yours!

The oldest, Kristen, is now 17. She is brilliant. Ask her! I suggest you put her to work in your office where she can answer people’s questions about their returns. While she has no formal training, it has not seemed to hamper her from believing she knows everything, so taxes should be a breeze. Next year she is going to college. I think it’s wonderful that you will now be responsible for that little expense.

While you mull that over, keep in mind that she has a truck. It doesn’t run at the moment, so you have the choice of appropriating some Department of Defense funds to fix the vehicle, or getting up early to drive her to school.

Kristen also has a boyfriend. Oh joy! While she possesses all of the wisdom of the universe, her alleged mother and I have felt it best to occasionally remind her of the virtues of abstinence, or in the face of overwhelming passion, safe sex. This is always uncomfortable, and I am quite relieved that you will be handling this in the future. May I suggest that you reinstate Dr. Jocelyn Elders, who had a rather good handle on the problem?

Patrick is 14. I’ve had my suspicions about this one. His eyes are a little closer together than those of normal people. He may be a tax examiner himself one day, if he is not incarcerated first. In February, I was awakened at three in the morning by a police officer who was bringing Patrick home. He and his friends were TP’ing houses. For future reference, would you like him delivered to the local IRS office, or to Ogden, UT?

Kids at 14 will do almost anything on a dare. His hair is purple. Permanent dye, temporary dye, what’s the big deal? Learn to deal with it. You’ll have plenty of time, as he is sitting out a few days of school after instigating a food fight in the cafeteria. I’ll take care of filing your phone number with the vice-principal.

Oh yes, he and all of his friends have raging hormones. This house is filled with testosterone and it will be much more peaceful when he lives in your home. Do NOT leave him or his friends unsupervised with girls, explosives, flammables, inflatables, vehicles, or telephones (they find telephones a source of unimaginable amusement, so be sure to lock out the 900 and 976 numbers!).

Heather is an alien. She slid through a time warp and appeared as if by magic one year. I’m sure this one is yours. She is 10 going on 21. She came from a bad trip in the sixties. She wears tie-dyed clothes, beads, sandals, and hair that looks like Tiny Tim’s. Fortunately, you will be raising my taxes to help offset the pinch of her remedial reading courses. “Hooked on Phonics” is expensive, so the school dropped it. But here’s the good news! You can buy it yourself for half the amount of the deduction you are denying me! It’s quite obvious that we were terrible parents (ask the other two).

She cannot speak English. Most people under twenty understand the curious patois she fashioned out of valley girls/boys in the hood/reggae/yuppie/political double speak. The school sends her to a speech pathologist who has her roll her “r’s”. It added a refreshing Mexican/Irish touch to her voice. She wears hats backwards, baggy pants, and wants one of her ears pierced four more times. There is a fascination with tattoos that worries me, but I am sure that you can handle it. Bring a truck when you come to get her, she sort of “nests” in her room and I think that it would be easier to move the entire thing than find out what it is really made of.

You denied two of the three exemptions, so it is only fair that you get to pick which two you will take. I prefer that you take the youngest two, since even though I will still go bankrupt with Kristen’s college, after that I am free! If you take the two oldest, then I still have time for counseling before Heather becomes a teenager. If you take the two girls, then I won’t feel so bad about putting Patrick in a military academy.

Please let me know your decision as soon as possible, as I have already increased the withholding on my W-4 to cover the $395 in additional tax and made a down payment on an airplane.

Yours truly,

The Other FISA Scandal

Obama Media Cheerleaders toon

Excerpts from Andrew Klavan:

America’s news centers did everything within their power to suppress, taint, and minimize the impact of the FISA memo, even before they knew what was in it.

The memo represents just one more jigsaw piece in a picture of the Obama administration as a Chicago-style Democratic machine rife with cronyism and abuse of power, a machine to which the media closed its eyes.

We know this. It’s not conjecture.

  • We know that Obama’s IRS made successful efforts to silence conservative voices during the president’s reelection campaign.
  • We know that the IRS also targeted Jewish groups that supported Israel.
  • We know that Obama appointed an attorney general who styled himself the president’s “wing-man . . . there with my boy.”
  • We know that Obama appointed another attorney general who held a secret meeting with Bill Clinton while Hillary Clinton was under investigation.
  • And now we begin to learn that the Obama Justice Department may have colluded with a Democrat’s campaign to spy on a Republican’s.

Obama misled us about much of this and more while journalists kowtowed to, flattered, and ultimately raved about the administration being “scandal-free.”

The press sacrificed its credibility with eight years of willful blindness. That’s the real scandal here, and it’s beginning to come out.

Keeping Promises

Tea Party pic

Trump’s DOJ has settled with two groups whose tax-exempt status was inappropriately delayed by Obama appointees during the 2010 and 2012 elections because they represented Tea Party interests.

AG Sessions said it should be “without question” that the First Amendment prohibits the federal government from treating groups differently “based solely on their viewpoint or ideology.”

Trump and Obama both promised transparency. The difference is that Trump is actually keeping his pledge, whereas Obama managed to oversee one of the least transparent administrations in history. Latest case in point: The JFK files.

The U.S. economy posted its best six-month stretch of growth in three years despite two hurricanes, a sign that it might be breaking out of its long-running slow-growth trend, with the help of soaring stock prices and rising business and consumer confidence.

Afternoon Delight

One of the advantages of being retired is that you can take a nap any time you want to. I enjoyed my weekly breakfast with my uncles this morning and felt like lying down for a bit when I got home. Woke up a little while ago and saw on Facebook a dear friend who lives in Florida plans to ride out the storm. Still praying.

It’s late, but maybe the folks who visit here early can catch this in the morning. I want you to know how much I appreciate all of you.  [CtH: Back atcha, Pete!]

Tim Kaine: ‘I Don’t Know Enough About Antifa’

Virginia Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine says he does not know much about members of so-called “anti-fascist” groups but says it is unfair to paint them with a broad brush.
Kaine’s son, Linwood, was arrested back in March at a pro-Trump rally at Minnesota’s state capitol on misdemeanor charges in connection with lighting smoke bombs.

[CtH: Democrats never let a little thing like ignorance stand in the way of their having firm opinions about stuff.]

Hurricanes Irma, Harvey are nature’s ‘wrath’ for Trump victory, Jennifer Lawrence claims

“You know, it’s this new language that’s forming. I don’t even recognize it. It’s also scary to know that climate change is due to human activity, and we continue to ignore it, and the only voice that we really have is through voting.”

Hillary Accuses Matt Lauer of ‘Pointless Ambush’ in NBC Forum

Recalling the event in her self-serving account of the campaign, Clinton ranted: “Lauer had turned what should have been a serious discussion into a pointless ambush.” Why was she so upset with the morning show host who usually provided her a friendly forum? Apparently he asked too many questions about her e-mail scandal.

[CtH: Oh, the inhumanity!]

Kid Rock Gives EPIC ‘Stump Speech’ at Grand Rapids

Despite YouTube reportedly removing various copies of Kid Rock’s epic ‘stump speech,’ during his concert in Grand Rapids, TGP has obtained a copy of it. The rockstar goes on a fiery tirade against his critics, the KKK and deadbeat dads.

Rock said the issue of single parenthood was near to his heart, but that America should not reward women who can’t take care of themselves, but keep having “kid after f*cking kid.”

“Of course we should help them out, I don’t want to sound like a jerk,” he added. “But let’s help them out with childcare, job creating, and put their goddamn asses to work!”

Sanders: I Understand Clinton’s Upset for Losing to the ‘Most Unpopular Candidate in the History of this Country’

[CtH: I think he’s a tad confused about how “Most Unpopular” is determined.  To my way of thinking, the woman who LOST should get that trophy. ]

Limbaugh: If Ryan and McConnell would Work with Trump “for Just 3 Months” to Pass His Agenda, “Dems wouldn’t have a Prayer for 25 Years”

But they have not listened to Trump. They have not enacted his agenda. They have fought him every step of the way. It’s totally insane. They don’t want Trump to get credit for anything. They would rather see the entire Trump agenda fail. But they may be about to find out Trump can get things done without them.

DoJ makes “shocking” flip in SCOTUS religious liberty case

In a major upcoming Supreme Court case that weighs equal rights with religious liberty, the Trump administration on Thursday sided with a Colorado baker who refused to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple.

The Department of Justice on Thursday filed a brief on behalf of baker Jack Phillips, who was found to have violated the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act by refusing to created a cake to celebrate the marriage of Charlie Craig and David Mullins in 2012.

Bannon on 60 Minutes: Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell ‘Trying to Nullify 2016 Election’

Former White House Chief Strategist Stephen K. Bannon believes Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) are trying to “nullify” the 2016 election because they do not believe in the economic nationalist agenda that got President Donald Trump elected.

When Is A Scandal Not A Scandal? When There’s A Democrat Involved

Corruption: A sitting U.S. Senator is currently on trial for bribery, and if he’s found guilty it could have major political ramifications. Haven’t heard about this case? That’s because the Senator in question is a Democrat.

A CNN story this week about the opening of the trial against New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez noted that “Democrats are eager to avoid the subject of Menendez’s bribery trial.”

The New York Times wrote an entire piece without identifying Senator Menendez as a Democrat from New Jersey, only later admitting that Menendez is a Democrat in updated version of the story two days later.  AP and NBC both tweeted out a story that Bob Menendez is a Republican.

Trump’s Justice Department Lets Lois Lerner Off The Hook

The Justice Department says it will not prosecute former IRS executive Lois Lerner for targeting conservative groups during the 2010 and 2012 elections.

“After this process, the Department determined that reopening the investigation would not be appropriate based on the available evidence,” Boyd wrote Texas Rep. Kevin Brady, the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, and Illinois Rep. Peter Roskam, the chairman of the subcommittee on tax policy.

National Day of Prayer

The media whined and screamed during his entire reign of terror that Obama was a CHRISTIAN!

He showed what he was on several occasions by cancelling the day of prayer, but never, not once, missed celebrating a Muslim holiday. Everybody knew it; they just wouldn’t admit it.

Trump To Sign Executive Order That Allows Churches To Endorse Political Candidates

Donald Trump will mark the National Day of Prayer by signing an executive order that scales back the restrictions placed on churches that prevent them from being politically active in order to maintain their tax-exempt status.

The order directs the Internal Revenue Service to use “maximum enforcement discretion” over the amendment, but it also gives religious organizations “regulatory relief” from an Obama administration mandate that required them to provide their employees with health coverage that included contraception.

Trump promised repeatedly throughout the campaign to “destroy” the Johnson Amendment because he believes it threatens the freedom of religion. However, it would require an act of Congress to completely repeal the amendment.

“I will get rid of and totally destroy the Johnson Amendment and allow our representatives of faith to speak freely and without fear of retribution,” Trump said just days after he took office at the National Prayer Breakfast.

Dems tout Day of Reason as alternative to National Day of Prayer

Democratic Rep. Ted Lieu (Calif.) is pushing a resolution to designate May 4 as the National Day of Reason as a response to the National Day of Prayer.

Lieu thanked Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) and Reps. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) and Humanists for Climate Action on Twitter for supporting his resolution to recognize “the importance of reason in the betterment of humanity.”

The resolution encourages people to use the day to focus on “the employment of reason, critical thought, the scientific method and free inquiry to the resolution of human problems and for the welfare of humankind.”

“There is no doubt that emotions and passions play an important role in American politics,” Lieu said in a statement linked to the tweet.

Maybe because it’s a felony?

Chris Matthews said, “That would be a good leak. Somebody at the IRS just leaking. I thought they were all liberals over there. Why doesn’t somebody just leak it?”

Pursuant to 26 US Code Sec. 7213, disclosing an individual’s return information is “a felony punishable upon conviction by a fine in any amount not exceeding $5,000, or imprisonment of not more than 5 years, or both.”

Howard Fineman suggested that IRS people haven’t leaked because “they might actually believe in the ethics of their job.”

Matthew just laughed.  Cuz, hey, what’s a felony or two if it would hurt a Republican president, right?

Another Obama Scandal Hots Up

On April 4, 2017, Judicial Watch released 695 pages of new documents from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that contain admissions by IRS officials that the agency used “inappropriate political labels” to screen the tax-exempt applications of conservative organizations.

Other records reveal that the IRS was going to require 501(c)(4) nonprofit organizations to restrict their alleged political activities in exchange for “expedited consideration” of their tax-exempt applications.

2013 IRS targets Tea Party by Branco.jpg

No wonder the Obama IRS has been hiding these records.  The new smoking-gun documents contain admissions by the Obama IRS that it inappropriately targeted conservative groups … [and] that the abuse continued – as the Obama IRS tried to force conservative applicants to give up their First Amendment rights in order to finally get their applications granted,” said Tom Fitton, Judicial Watch President.

So much news!

I was adding these to the comments section of Pete’s 2/16 post, but it’s gotten too long and is taking forever to refresh.  So, starting with what I posted after midnight …

Highlights from Trump’s presser.

WOW!! The IRS will no longer require that people prove they have health insurance!

Third arrest resulting from Project Veritas undercover expose of group planning to disrupt inauguration day.

“Rep. Jason Chaffetz, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, sent a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions today asking Sessions to consider convening a grand jury or bringing charges against Hillary Clinton’s former IT guy, Bryan Pagliano. Pagliano was subpoenaed to testify before the committee last year but refused to appear on two occasions. After the second refusal, the Oversight Committee voted to hold Pagliano in contempt.”

This is why the big unions and their Democrat lapdogs fight so hard against Right to Work laws.  The unions have become the evil they were originally founded to combat and workers know it.

Weeks after the House Minority leader blasted President Donald Trump for pledging to investigate voter fraud, a federal appellate court has ruled that a Peruvian immigrant can be deported from the U.S. for illegally voting in a federal election.

18 Major Scandals in Obama’s ‘Scandal-Free’ Presidency

They’re saying “Obama’s presidency was scandal-free” but that don’t make it so.  Here’s a short list from Breitbart of the many scandals Team Obama would like us to forget:

The great “stimulus” heist: A trillion dollars wasted on economic “stimulus” spending that created virtually zero private-sector jobs.  A great deal of that money apparently vanished into thin air.

Operation Fast and Furious: The Obama administration’s insane program to arm Mexican drug lords resulted in the deaths of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agent Jamie Zapata, plus hundreds of Mexican citizens.

AG Eric Holder held in contempt of Congress: Holder was the first sitting member of any president’s cabinet to earn this distinction.  Of course, Democrats closed ranks behind Holder, the White House protected him, and the media allowed him to spin the contempt vote as mere “political theater.”

ObamaCare: Everything about ObamaCare is a scandal, from the President’s incessant lies about keeping your old plan if you liked it, to Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s insane statement “We need to pass it to find out what’s in it.”

Spying on journalists: Establishment media came about as close to falling out of love with Barack Obama as ever when his administration was caught spying on journalists.

The IRS scandal: A highly politicized IRS admitted to selectively targeting conservative groups, then brazenly lied about not having backups of relevant computer data.

Benghazi: Libya was a disaster after Obama’s unlawful military operation. Ambassador Christopher Stevens was sent into a known terrorist hot zone without sufficient security. And the Obama administration knowingly told a false story during the first few weeks after the attack.

Hillary Clinton’s secret server: She perpetrated her email offenses while working as Obama’s Secretary of State and he knew about it.

The Pigford scandal: The abuse of a program meant to compensate minority farmers for racial discrimination exploded under Obama.

NSA spying scandal: Snowden’s pilfering of sensitive National Security Agency data was a debacle that damaged national security. President Obama and his administration made many false statements as they tried to contain the political damage.

Bowe Bergdahl:  The prisoner swap that freed him from the Taliban and its allies was riddled with lies, illegal activity, and bad judgment.

Iran nuclear deal and ransom payment: Everything about Obama’s dealings with Iran has been scandalous, beginning with his silence while the Green Revolution was brutally put down by the mullahs in 2009. The Iran nuclear deal was pushed with lies and media manipulation. The infamous pallet of cash that wasn’t a ransom has become symbolic of Obama’s mendacity and penchant for breaking the rules, when he thinks following them is too much trouble.

Polluting the Colorado river: The Environmental Protection Agency managed to turn the Colorado River orange under this greenest of green Presidents. Of course there was a cover-up.

The GSA scandal: The General Services Administration was caught wasting ridiculous amounts of taxpayer money on lavish parties and silly projects.  Of course there was a cover-up.

The VA death-list scandal: Veterans were put on secret death lists while executives handed in phony status reports and signed themselves up for big bonuses.

Solyndra: Billions of taxpayer dollars were wasted financing companies with absurdly unrealistic business models, because the owners had supported Obama’s campaign.

Secret Service gone wild:  Agents hiring hookers in Columbia, a fence jumper penetrating the White House, and tipsy Secret Service officials driving their car into a security barrier.

Shutdown theater:  Obama hit the American people hard during the great government shutdown crisis of 2013, doing everything he could to make American citizens feel maximum pain – from using “Barry-cades” to keep war veterans away from their memorials, to releasing illegal alien criminals from detention centers.
