Obama ended “wet foot, dry foot” for Cuban refugees
The left-wing’s rage over Trump’s immigration policy change is hypocritical, given that they had no problem whatsoever just a few weeks ago when Obama ended “wet foot, dry foot.”
This longstanding immigration policy allowed any Cuban who made it to U.S. soil to stay and become a legal resident.
Obama said that by sending unvetted Cubans back home, “We are treating Cuban migrants the same way we treat migrants from other countries.”
Actually … not so much, since Obama had a long-standing policy of requiring LEOs to ignore immigration law when it came to illegals who had come across the Rio Grande.
Personally, I think his attitude toward the latter was because those illegals tend to vote Democrat, even while they’re still illegal … something BTW that he TOLD THEM shortly before November’s election WAS A-OKAY.
As for banning Cuban refugees? Well, they tend to become Americans and vote Republican.

About Pope Francis’ condolences
Pope Francis is reported to have sent the following to Cuban President Raúl Castro in a Spanish-language telegram:
“On receiving the sad news of the death of your dear brother, His Excellency Mister Fidel Alejandro Castro Ruz, former president of the State Council and of the Government of the Republic of Cuba, I express my sentiments of sorrow to Your Excellency and other family members of the deceased dignitary, as well as to the people of this beloved nation. At the same time, I offer prayers to the Lord for his repose and I entrust the whole Cuban people to the maternal intercession of our Lady of the Charity of El Cobre, patroness of this country.”
I keep seeing outraged remarks about what he said, but really … where’s the basis for them?
Pope Francis is a world leader who has visited Cuba. Condolences were in order. What was he supposed to say to the bereaved … “I’m glad the schmuck is dead”?
Fidel Castro was baptized Catholic and educated by the Jesuits. Then he became a brutal dictator and avowed atheist. Any Christian should be sorry the man apparently died unrepentant. How much more the pastor of the worldwide church the man was born into, then repudiated and persecuted?
And it’s not like Francis didn’t get in a very proper and polite dig with “I offer prayers to the Lord for his repose and I entrust the whole Cuban people to the maternal intercession of our Lady of the Charity of El Cobre, patroness of this country.”
Personally, I think the text of the telegram was well done. As was his visit to Cuba.
The Daily Mail UK reported that the primary motive behind the Pontiff’s trip was not political, but pastoral. He went to encourage Catholic Cubans who have suffered under Communist rule.
Pope Francis gave Fidel a selection of books, including one written by Rev. Amando Llorente, a Jesuit preacher who taught Castro as a young man, but was expelled from Cuba under Communism.
He also celebrated Mass in Havana’s Revolutionary Square near a huge metal sculpture of Che Guevara.
That sculpture of Che Guevara is permanent. But check out what was put up for the Mass!

The truth about Cuban healthcare
Healthcare in Cuba has two tiers.
The first is First World quality, but restricted to foreigners and Party elite. Medical tourists pay in hard currency, which provides oxygen to the regime. Cuba does big business in Botox, liposuction, and breast implants. In addition to separate medical facilities, rich foreigners enjoy separate hotels, separate beaches, and separate restaurants.
Cuban citizens get the dregs. So deplorable is the health care in Cuba that old-fashioned diseases are back with a vengeance. These include tuberculosis, leprosy, and dengue and typhoid fevers. Hospitals and clinics are crumbling. Basic medications are scarce and the equipment that doctors have to work with is either antiquated or nonexistent. Patients must bring their own bed sheets, soap, towels, food, light bulbs — even toilet paper.

Fidel fans need to explain this
If Cuba is such a paradise, why do so many of its citizens risk their lives trying to get here?
As for that alleged “100% literacy rate”, let us please remember this is self-reported by the same repressive regime that doesn’t admit outsiders or a free press. Maybe it’s true. Or maybe it’s just PR.

Human Rights Watch: Fidel Castro
During Castro’s rule, thousands of Cubans were incarcerated in abysmal prisons, thousands more were harassed and intimidated, and entire generations were denied basic political freedoms.
Abusive tactics developed during Castro’s time in power – including surveillance, beatings, arbitrary detention, and public acts of repudiation – are still used by the Cuban government.
Under Fidel Castro, the Cuban government refused to recognize the legitimacy of Cuban human rights organizations, alternative political parties, independent labor unions, or a free press.
He also denied international monitors such as the International Committee of the Red Cross and international nongovernmental organizations like Human Rights Watch access to the island to investigate human rights conditions.
