It’s Oscar Night!

This used to be a big deal. I remember my grandmother watching to see all the gowns the Hollywood elite wore (and often make snide comments about them looking like “a saddle on a sow”…extra grannyism there), or some such offhand snarkiness. Personally, I quit going to movies about the time the outdoor theaters disappeared.
Since the rise of the internet, which gave educated people the ability to express conservative ideas heretofore censored, the discourse has coarsened to the point where so-called “beautiful people” have taken upon themselves to become the arbiters of our morality. The Academy Awards have degenerated into an orgy of self-congratulatory egoists slapping each other on the back, thanking all the ‘little people’ and copping clandestine feels before the “#me too” nonsense was brought belatedly to light.
You know well beforehand that these clowns who make millions playing pretend cannot resist berating this president and all the things most of us hold dear, like the Constitution. I never watch this republican bash-a-thon and doubt any of the few who come by here do either.

Oscar weekend kicks off without celebratory spirit
“Can you believe the Oscars is this Sunday?” a top agent told Steigrad. “It’s like, who cares?”
While there’s always a sense of awards season fatigue following the Golden Globes, this year has a slate of smaller, less flashy movies nominated, with no big stars expected to take home the golden statuette.
“There are no movie stars [expected to win] this year,” the agent added.

Yeah, Here’s Another Reason Why Conservatives Should Just Should Turn Off The Oscars Tonight
Yet, in the age of Trump, you can expect the bashing of our president to occur tonight. You can also expect swipes at those who are not in this club—Republicans, rural voters, people from small towns—to be ridiculed. Oh, and I forgot, there’s going to be pro-gun control pins that celebrities are expected to wear, according to reports. Nothing is confirmed, but this wouldn’t shock me.

Stars to Wear Anti-Gun-Violence Pin at Oscars, Sources Say
Michael Bloomberg’s New York-based gun-control advocacy group Everytown for Gun Safety has created an anti-gun-violence pin for celebrities to wear to the Oscars on Sunday, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
Since the Parkland, Florida, high school massacre that left 17 dead last month, thousands of young people have called upon the organization to support their efforts to advocate for more stringent gun-control laws and other public-safety issues.

Can Time’s Up Avoid Protest Fatigue at the Oscars?
In several decades of researching social change, I have never seen a social movement arise as quickly and spread as widely as the #MeToo campaign against sexual assault and harassment. But like all contemporary protests, supporters face the difficulty of sustaining momentum in the face of a public whose attention span seldom lasts beyond a single news cycle.
In approaching the Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday, activists face a problem scholars call “protest fatigue.” People tend to grow weary of repeated protests unless there is something novel about them. Movements that were once energetic and fresh find themselves under a great deal of pressure to top their previous efforts.

Jimmy Kimmel Says ‘It’s Almost Necessary Now’ to Trash Trump: ‘I Don’t Think You Can Go too Far’
THIS IS THE CHUMP WHO HOSTED A SHOW FEATURING GIRLS ON TRAMPOLINES, GUZZLING BEER AND PLAYING “GUESS WHAT’S IN MY PANTS.”
YEAH, HE CAN’T GO TOO FAR.
“I don’t think you can go too far,” Kimmel says of his politically charged rhetoric. “I’m still doing a comedy show and I need to be funny and entertain my audience, but I also think that we’ve matured enough … to the point where we can accept late-night talk show hosts speaking about a serious subject. And I think that it’s almost necessary now.”

You May Have Already Heard About This

The Academy Awards Hug-A-Thon and Trump Bashing Show aired last night. Interspersed among the preening and self-congratulations there were bitter, sarcastic diatribes against the man who won an election by appealing to people who have never been or ever will be a part of the Hollywood stuffed shirts.

Kimmel Trashes Trump

Oscar host Jimmy Kimmel predictably trashed President Trump. He said the Oscars were being watched in more than 225 countries that now hate the U.S.

[CtH: Maybe, maybe not.  The show hit a 9 year ratings low.]

He called on the star-studded crowd to give a ‘highly overrated’ Meryl Streep a standing ovation before joking about her dress, saying ‘by the way, is that an Ivanka?’

And he said Trump would later tweet about all of the Oscar winner’s acceptance speeches ‘in all caps’, then tweeted: ‘Hey @realDonaldTrump u up?’

Italian make up artist Alessandro Bertolazzi dedicated his Oscar win to ‘all the immigrants’

Moonlight director Barry Jenkins said people who don’t feel like they have support can look to the American Civil Liberties Union and artists over the next four years.

Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, who won an Oscar for his film The Salesman, issued a statement saying he was not present out of ‘respect for the people of my country’ who have been banned from entering the U.S.

[CtH: Hey, schmuck, how about respecting the American men and women who served, sweated, suffered, and died to free you from Saddam Hussein and help you set up a democratic government for the first time in your sorry history.]

Moonlight director Barry Jenkins said in accepting the Oscar for adapted screenplay that people who don’t feel like they have support can look to the American Civil Liberties Union and artists over the next four years

CARE TO GUESS WHY ‘MOONLIGHT’ WON? REMEMBER THE #OSCARS SO WHITE LAST YEAR?… THERE YOU GO.

Oscars shots are pure gold for Donald Trump: Hollywood elites’ snark bolsters prez
Before the best picture gaffe stole the show last night, Hollywood took some shots at President Trump during the Academy Awards, a chorus political strategists say plays right into the president’s hands and solidifies his status as the antithesis of liberal elites.

GOP strategist Ford O’Connell said the Americans who put Trump in the White House would likely be put off by quips at the commander in chief.

“Any time Hollywood liberals politically grandstand it helps the president,” O’Connell said. “Ordinary Americans have never been to Tinseltown, and their concerns revolve around making rent and paying college loans, not virtue signaling for the sake of standing on a red carpet.”

Jimmy Kimmel Disses Trump, Praises Meryl Streep & More In Opening Monologue At 2017 Oscars

THIS IS WHAT EVERYBODY’S TALKING ABOUT:

Warren Beatty Opens Up About Oscar Blunder: It Wasn’t Our Fault
Walking past the backstage area at the Dolby Theatre en route to the Governors Ball, Beatty, 79, told a small group of reporters, “I don’t know anything … I don’t think anyone knows. I’ve asked and I haven’t got an answer.”

According to People, Beatty added: “I read the card that was in the envelope. I read it but I didn’t say La La Land. I thought, ‘This is very strange because it says Best Actress on the card.’ And I felt that maybe there was some sort of misprint.

Steve Harvey has hilarious response to Warren Beatty’s Oscars flub

ABC Praises Kimmel for ‘Setting Tone’ With ‘Very Funny’ Anti-Trump Jokes at Oscars
ABC then played several sound bites of host Jimmy Kimmel’s anti-Trump jokes, which mocked Trump for being racist, petty, and causing the rest of the world to “hate us.” ABC also touted celebrities’ political speeches against the immigration ban and pins supporting liberal causes like the ACLU. Llamas even noting how many retweets Kimmel’s anti-Trump tweets received.

[CtH: This is “news”?  And these people COMPLAIN that Trump doesn’t treat them nicely?]

LLAMAS: Kimmel even tweeting at the president first asking, ‘Hey, real Donald Trump, you up?’ Then ‘#MerylSaysHi’ both retweeting half a million times and counting the first becoming Kimmel’s most retweeted ever just after 15 minutes.

Jordan Peele’s ‘Get Out’ mixes horror and comedy: movie review

THIS MOVIE GROSSED $30M/ I GUESS A BLACK DUDE BOINKING A WHITE GIRL AND MURDERING HER WHOLE FAMILY IS HILARIOUS
The story kicks off when Rose (Allison Williams) invites her boyfriend Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) to take a drive out of town and meet her parents. He’s a little cautious. Did she inform them that he is black? She hasn’t, but swears that Mom and Dad (Catherine Keener and Bradley Whitford) are perfectly open-minded, Obama-supporting progressives. Nothing to worry about.
Initial awkward conversations (like a family friend boasting that he once golfed “with Tiger”) soon turn sinister. Just why is everyone behaving so strangely, especially the African-American groundskeeper and maid?

News of the Day

Two events of note today:

First, and most important (to ME anyway), today marks 22 years I’ve officially been a pain in my wife’s backside. She gets looks of sympathy from everybody from my family to the checkout people at Walmart. I sit on a scooter at the end of the checkout as she’s paying for her purchases and crack wise. The looks of pity she gets from total strangers are priceless.

Second, today is the day the DNC chooses the next socialist to send the party farther into the wilderness. The choices are Tom Perez, a friend of the Clintons, Joe Biden, and Eric Holder, OR Keith Ellison, the anti-Semitic, hard-left, community-organizing Muslim who is backed by Bernie Sanders, Upchuck Schumer, and the rest of the usual suspects. It matters not a whit who they choose because their message of violence, intolerance, and total government control will never change.

Michael Moore endorses Ellison for DNC chair: Party needs ‘fresh blood’
Moore went on to lay out why he believes Ellison is the best suited to lead the DNC.“He’s from the Midwest,” Moore said. “Before he was a congressman in Minnesota, he helped turn Minnesota from what was then a red state into a blue state. He did political neighborhood organizing in the state of Minnesota. We need an organizer who is going to bring people out and turn this party around.”

The Case for Tom Perez Makes No Sense
His supporters say he’s just as progressive as Keith Ellison. So why bother fielding him at all?  Ellison has captured the support of the left wing. Ellison backed Sanders early in his primary race against Hillary Clinton, and was one of the first candidates to announce his bid for DNC chair. The Hill reports, “Perez supporters have expressed concern about handing the party over to the Sanders wing of the party, arguing that Ellison would move the party too far to the left.” And the New York Times suggests that Democratic leaders pushed Perez to run because they viewed Ellison as too close to the Sanders wing.

The Sanders vs. Clinton schism in the Democratic party isn’t going away

Keith Ellison is the progressive choice being supported by Sanders himself. As Ed noted yesterday, Ellison is already taking a far left line, pushing for impeachment of President Trump (who has also offered a semi-endorsement of Ellison). But moderates in the party don’t like Ellison much.
Case in point, today Alan Dershowitz wrote a piece for the Hill threatening to leave the party if Ellison becomes chairman:
“There has been powerful push from the hard-left of the Democratic Party, led by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), to elect Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) chairman. If he is elected, I will quit the party after 60 years of loyal association and voting.”

DNC chair vote: live coverage

Here is a look at the clicker Democrats will use to register their votes, courtesy of Frank Leone, a DNC member from Virginia. Members will also fill out paper ballots that will be collected for a later audit.
There are believed to be several dozen members that are not on hand who instead sent proxies to register their votes.

Obama, Democratic ‘super group’ unite to end gerrymandering, win state races, reclaim majorities
democratsTHEY HONESTLY THINK THE PROBLEM IS THAT THEY HAVEN’T GOTTEN THEIR MESSAGE OUT.  THE ACTUAL PROBLEM IS, IT HAS. AND IT’S BEEN SOUNDLY REJECTED.

“America needs non-partisan redistricting commissions,” O’Malley said at Boston College Law School, where he’s now a visiting professor. “This simple reform … must become the new norm of American democracy. … How can we expect people to vote if their voice has been carved into irrelevance by a political map ahead of time?”

An early test for Democrats trying to win state-level races and stopping the Trump wave arrives this weekend.

Delaware is holding a special election for an open state Senate seat that will decided whether Democrats keep their roughly 40-year hold on the chamber.

“If we lose, a new Republican majority will take power and rubber-stamp every single one of Trump’s hateful policies,” the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee said in a recent fundraising letter. “They’ll grind all our progress to a halt.”

THE ACADEMY AWARDS ARE TOMORROW NIGHT. YEAH, I DON’T CARE EITHER.

Street Artist Mocks Hollywood And The Oscars With Fake Movie Posters
Conservative artist Sabo created fake movie posters to mock Hollywood and the Oscars ahead of Sunday’s show to send a message to celebrities who keep attacking President Donald Trump.

The Los Angeles based street artist plastered the movie posters and “fake Redbox kiosks” Thursday night he created in “hard to reach places” near where celebrities will be walking the red carpet at the 89th Academy Awards show, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

“Yeah, we wouldn’t have paid full price to watch any Oscar nominated movies either,” one of the sayings on the fake RedBox kiosks read.
“These pieces look so legit no one is thinking to take them down,” Sabo said. “It almost looks like a real Redbox ad. I consider this piece my representation of the discounting of Hollywood.”

Spicer: President Trump Will Not Watch The Academy Awards This Year

President Trump will not watch the Academy Awards Sunday night, press secretary Sean Spicer said at the briefing Wednesday.
“I’ve got to be honest with you, I think the president will be hosting the Governors Ball that night,” Spicer said when asked if Trump would be watching. “The first lady has put a lot of time into this event, welcoming our nation’s governors to the capital. I have a feeling that’s where the president and first lady are going to be focused on Sunday night, so we’ll go from there.”

Before that, Spicer was asked why he thinks celebrities like Meryl Streep give politically charged speeches from the stage at awards shows.

“I have no idea. It’s a free country. I think Hollywood is known for being rather far to the left in its opinions.”

Super Bowl Goes Political

They just can’t help themselves. They are so inured in their own self-righteousness and need to destroy anyone who does not share their mindset any time they have an audience they whip out the empty platitudes and fiery passion to quash any independent thought. The Super Bowl has always been a showcase of the best NFL teams and the funniest commercials. Nowadays the commercials are made public weeks in advance of the event itself. I tried looking at some and, trust me, many are NOT for children or adults with any sense of shame. I will include a couple of the milder ones, but they tend to focus on immigration, lesbianism, and maybe some of the most disgusting Doritos commercials I’ve ever seen.

Why Can’t The Mainstream Media Understand That The Super Bowl Isn’t Political?

Many in the media like to feign being above the political fray as they talk about about the partisan divide separating not just political parties, but also so much of America into red- and blue-leaning precincts.

But then they step on what is a great coming together for America, the Super Bowl, by playing up the politics.
“Brady’s nonchalant neutrality is itself a political statement, one that says he’s either too rich to worry about how Trump’s whirlwind of chaos will affect his life, or worse, too indifferent about the rapidly diminishing prospects of those who are not. Of course, this same opinion piece referred to San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s refusal to stand during the singing of the national anthem as “outright bravery.”

Flashback: Six Years of Obama Super Bowl Softballs
In 2016, when CBS News assigned Gayle King, a donor, supporter and friend of the Obama family, to interview the President and his wife before the Super Bowl, the network guaranteed one of the softest interviews in the history of this administration. Asking not one serious question, the journalist instead highlighted her favorite photo of the President and his wife. King also brought up dance moves, relationship issues and Super Bowl predictions.

10 Super Bowl Ads to Watch: Sexy Mr. Clean; Bud Light’s ‘Ghost Spuds’
First-time Super Bowl advertiser 84 Lumber seems to wade into political territory with a 90-second spot that shows a Mexican woman and her daughter traveling across Mexico on foot

Bud Light is bringing back its iconic 1980s mascot, Spuds Mackenzie, sort of. The dog appears as an unsettling T-shirted ghost

“Born the Hard Way ”
The second-quarter ad became topical since it was released online Tuesday, just days after President Donald Trump signed an executive order to temporarily ban refugees and nearly all citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries. Anheuser-Busch, which started working on the ad in May, says the ad isn’t making a political statement.

Will Oscar Ratings Collapse in Age of Trump?
The dismal Oscar ratings for the 2016 telecast might look glorious after this year’s Trump-era show.
This weekend proved one thing beyond a doubt.
The upcoming Oscars telecast will be a three-plus hour rally for the Democrats. Both the Golden Globes and the SAG Awards were dress rehearsals for the main event. Let’s face it, the Oscars remain the preeminent awards gala for Hollywood types.

“I would be shocked but not surprised if she just stopped a song and went on an anti-Trump rant, but I don’t think it’s going to happen, because that’s very much a bridge-burning move,” Aswad said. “But at least as many people, if not more, would support a move like that than be angry with her for it.”

Secretive anti-Trump protests to erupt Super Bowl weekend in Houston
People representing more than a half-dozen protest groups that are set to march and rally here Super Bowl weekend met to coordinate their efforts — in a way New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick would have appreciated. That is to say, the protesters discussed using encrypted communication that would keep opponents from intercepting their messages.

So What Are We Protesting Today?

Apparently I’m not the only one who noticed the #STOP (pick a name) signs Tuesday night:
Senator Finds Hilarious Proof Liberals Were Ready To Protest Any Trump SCOTUS Nominee
Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse found evidence that liberal protesters at the Supreme Court Tuesday were ready to protest any nominee put forward by President Donald Trump.
Trump nominated Judge Neil Gorsuch to be a Supreme Court associate justice.

However, to Gleiberman, protesting President Trump is not about specifically policies but because Trump lacks empathy.

Why I Prefer Old Westerns

The republican primary looks more like a schoolyard game of ‘king of the hill,’ where everybody is trying to knock off the kid at the top of the hill. Cruz and Rubio are both taking shots at Trump who, in actuality, has shot himself in the proverbial foot time and again by addressing David Duke’s endorsement, the Trump University fraud, and blaming the judge in that lawsuit of being biased because he’s Hispanic. Nothing seems to make the Trumpkins waver, as he still draws thousands to hear him hurl threats and insults at everybody.

The Oscars were last night. The annual orgy of self-congratulation by stilted, jaded millionaires whining about climate change, gay rights and diversity, just not in their lily-white world. I read a lot of articles about the gala and decided not to pollute this site with all the meaningless pap.

Multi-multi millionaire finally got his award and used the occasion to whine about climate change:

But the most dramatic moment came towards the end of his speech, when he spoke forcefully about a cause that’s long been near and dear to his heart: climate change. “The Revenant was about a man’s relationship to the natural world, a world that we collectively felt in 2015 as the hottest year in recorded history. Our production needed to move to the southern tip of this planet just to be able to find snow. Climate change is real. It is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating. I thank you all for this amazing award tonight. Let us not take this planet for granted. I do not take tonight for granted.”

If who won last night was important to you, the list of winners is here:
http://nation.foxnews.com/2016/02/29/list-2016-academy-award-winners

While all this was going on I was watching the Encore Western Channel on demand.
Here’s why I prefer westerns:
The bad guy always gets caught/killed in the end
The cowboys never peed or pooped…no toilets in the west
Dance hall girls never took cowboys upstairs for a bucking bronco ride
The six-guns held 37 shots without reloading
When people got shot, there was no recoil backwards and no blood around the wound
The Indians were all white guys wearing shirts so only their faces needed makeup
They all had headbands to hold om their cheap wigs
The good guys could shoot two redskins off galloping horses with one shot
The Indians spoke in deliciously racist terms like:
‘white man speak with forked tongue’
‘me sendum to happy hunting ground’
‘you needum much wampum for Injun maid’
The walk-on actors never had guns… only the main characters went strapped
It was all in good, clean fun. Something political correctness precludes today.
Keep your modern progress…I like it where I am.

AND THE BLOSCAR GOES TO……

As card-carrying members of the liberal-socialist party, the aggrieved African-American victim society never tire of whining about seeing racism behind every tree. Their latest cause célèbre has been the fact no blactors were nominated for an Academy Award the past two years. The fact they have their own networks, own award shows, and their own beauty pageant, which are exclusive to their race… no whites allowed. Still, they demand all of theirs and half of yours. If you don’t give it to them, they’ll take it. Personally, I quit watching these self-congratulatory exercises in blatant narcissism long ago.

Spike Lee Now Says He Never Called For Oscar Boycott

Academy Members React To Push For Diversity: ‘It’s F**king Knee-Jerk Liberalism’

In extensive interviews with the Hollywood Reporter, older members of the Academy blasted the organization’s leadership for the rule changes, which mandate that members must be “active” in filmmaking within ten years in order to cast a vote for Academy Awards nominations, unless they have previously been nominated for, or have won, an Oscar.

IOW, OLD (WHITE) PEOPLE NEED NOT APPLY

Ice Cube on Oscars: Once Your Horse Loses the Race…Tear Up Your Ticket

You can’t boycott something that you never went to anyway. That’s kinda weird. I look at it like a horse race. Once your horse loses the race, you tear up the ticket, go home. Back on out.

THE RACIAL GRIEVANCE DUJOUR

So a gaggle of dirt-poor, starved for attention, partly-African Americans are weeping in their crystal over the fact there are no homeys up for Academy Awards this year, for the second straight year. Spike Urkel Lee, Jada Igotmylooksfrommywhitemama Pinkett, and Orca the Killer Hack, among others, are boycotting this years gala. Pity. Maybe Kanye West can chug some scotch and run on stage, snatch a statue out of some little white girls hand, and make an ass of himself like he did at the AMAs, maybe screeching that ‘Straight Outta Compton’ is far and away the best movie of all time. Oddly, the people who made the movie are up for an Oscar… and they’re both white.

Spike Lee: I’m Skipping ‘Lily White’ Oscars … In Honor of MLK Jr.
MLK WOULD HAVE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU, SPIKEY

LOVE THE FAKE GLASSES, DUDE… THEY’RE TRES TRES
In his scathing message to the Motion Picture Academy, Spike said … “40 white actors in 2 years and no flava at all. We can’t act?! WTF!!”

Spike apologized to his friends involved in the Oscars production this year — Chris Rock, Reggie Hudlin, and Pres. Cheryl Boone Isaacs — but said he simply “cannot support it.”

NOTE TO URKEL: FLAVA IS NOT A WORD IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

2015’s Best Black Actors Won’t Be at the Oscars
Spike Lee, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and Michael Moore are boycotting the show this year for its lack of diversity — where everyone is a liberal Democrat.
FATSO MOORE IS BOYCOTTING… THE CATERERS CUT THEIR FOOD ORDER IN HALF AND CANCELLED THE TROUGH RENTAL
The two top black actors of 2015 will also not be in attendance.
RACHEL DOLEZAL

SHAUN KING

Best Actress Rachel Dolezal: Washington NAACP Leader and Black Lives Matter activist Rachel Dolezal admitted to being white this year after her caucasian parents outed her. She lived this lie to garner sympathy and esteem for years until she was caught.

Best Actor Shaun King: #BlackLivesMatter agitator and protest leader Shaun King was also outed this year as a white dude. King misled media icon Oprah Winfrey by pretending to be biracial in order to qualify for an “Oprah scholarship” to historically black Morehouse College. King is white and has been lying about his ethnicity for years.

It is truly unfair that these two actors will not be recognized this year at the Academy Awards.

ONLY TRUMP HAS THE STONES TO SAY WHAT A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE THINKING
Donald Trump on Oscars diversity: It’s a tough situation, and as others have noted, ‘the whites’ don’t get BET awards

“Well, I think it’s a tough situation,” Trump said on Fox & Friends when asked about the issue. “I think it’s really sad. And Al is just a guy who wants to get publicity for himself. And I understand him very well.”

Trump then apparently alluded to Stacey Dash’s “Fox & Friends” interview earlier in the morning, in which the actress criticized the Black Entertainment Television channel for giving awards only to black recipients. (“Just like there shouldn’t be a Black History Month,” Dash said. “You know? We’re Americans. Period. That’s it.”)
