2020_08 15 Feast of Assumption

THE FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION: August 15th – “The Immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory.” [Pius XII, Munificentissimus Deus 44].

COVID-19: A new CDC survey found that more than four in 10 Americans are struggling with mental health issues due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A shocking statistic: 25.5% of young people from 18 to 24 reported that they had considered suicide in the previous 30 days.

2020_08 15 Peace deal

TRUMP: President Trump has brokered a historic deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to the fully normalize relations between the Jewish and Arab nations. First up will be a joint effort to develop a COVID-19 vaccine. The nations will also open mutual embassies.

While other Middle East countries, like Bahrain and Oman, are also considering full diplomatic relations with Israel, Palestinians (including Rep. Tlaib) were incensed at the idea of any Muslim nation considering peace with Israel.

NEW YORK CITY: The rotten apple’s Democrat and Worst Mayor Ever, Bill De Blasio, was approached by a grocer in Chinatown this week.

While the grocer was asking his mayor how city officials planned to help businesses struggling from the coronavirus shut down, De Blasio literally turned his back on him and walked away.

PORTLAND: Rioters were back at it on Wednesday night, most wearing helmets and gas masks and carrying shields and batons. They started fires and blocked traffic. When Portland Police told them to disperse, they shined lasers at their eyes. The beams from the lasers can cause permanent eye damage.

Eventually, Portland police officers and Oregon state troopers collaborated to disperse the crowd by using tear gas and crowd-control munitions. At this point, rioters threw a large explosive and other fireworks at the officers, as well as rocks, bottles, and cans of paint. One officer suffered severe injuries, while others were treated for minor injuries.

Some in the group also completed what they call a “de-arrest” – i.e., surrounding an officer and the person he or she has taken into custody and freeing the detainee by force.

CHICAGO: The looting in Chicago last weekend was the second time in three months that many stores in the city were hit. Given that these businesses were already dealing with the shut down and the coronavirus, some are now saying they won’t be back.

2020_08 15 Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS: The city won’t let Blyly haul away his wreckage without a permit. But he can’t get a permit until he prepays thousands of dollars in property tax that comes due in October. Blyly has a lot of company. Nearly 100 properties were, like his, severely damaged or totally destroyed by rioters.

Demolition and reconstruction are expensive, particularly given the loss of income owners endure while they’re closed. And this comes on top of the loss of income they already endured during the forced closing due to the coronavirus.

Not all of these businesses have insurance and, of those that do, many of their policies only cover things like fire and flooding, not riots. So they’re out of luck on every front.

Meanwhile, the Democrats running Minneapolis don’t care. They’d rather see these businesses close permanently, leaving the lots a mass of dangerous rubble, than forgive business owners a tax bill they can’t afford for reasons far beyond their control.

AUSTIN: Despite the fact that violent crimes, including homicides, aggravated assaults, and arson, rose in Austin in March and April, Austin’s all-Democrat city council (pictured above) voted Thursday to police funding by $150 million, which is more than a third of the department’s total budget.

The decision cuts functions such as the 911 call center, community partnerships, victims’ services, and traffic enforcement, as well as cadet classes and officers’ overtime pay.

The mayor and members of the city council will continue to enjoy personal protection details at the taxpayers’ expense.

During the same meeting, the Austin city council voted to direct an additional $100,000 to “increasing abortion access.”

Because Texas state law prohibits government funding for abortion, the City of Austin puts taxpayer money into providing travel, lodging, and childcare expenses for women seeking abortions.

ATLANTA: In what one can only hope is a flood of house cleaning elections across this country, corrupt DA Paul Howard has been swept out of office.

His opponent, Fani Willis, received a landslide 73% of the vote.

Following the shooting death of Rayshard Brooks, Howard claimed he had watched 8 videos and studied the evidence before charging the cop with felony murder.

This seems unlikely, since Howard also claimed the officers never told Brooks that he was under arrest and that Brooks was calm and respectful, both of which are outright lies.

WALK AWAY:I have been on the other side. I LOATHED Mr Trump, based on memes, YouTube clips, things taken out of context and sometimes too seriously, and a few of his policies which I had limited knowledge of. I have found some of his remarks to be despicable, when I looked at Facebook memes and the media mocking our president, only to watch the incident firsthand and wonder how a question or comment got so blown out of proportion. I never was given an accurate representation of who this person is and what he believes, I just got the tabloid version of things.”

2020: Joe says there should be a federal mask mandate for three months, which he claims would save 40,000 lives. “Every single American should be wearing a mask when they are outside for the next three months at a minimum.”

President Trump rejected the idea. “He does not identify what authority the president has to issue such a mandate or how federal law enforcement could possibly enforce it or why we would be stepping on governors throughout our country, many of whom have done a very good job and they know what is needed.”

2020_08 15 Kamala Moderate by Branco

KAMALA: Former staffers to President Barack Obama are mocking the idea being pushed out by the Left Stream Media that California Sen. Kamala Harris is a “moderate” or a “centrist.”

Jon Favreau, a former speechwriter to Obama, noted, “She has one of the most liberal records in the U.S. Senate.”

SPEECH POLICE: The Left’s War on Words continues. – Comments from Twitter:

If a lady wants to compete in the nasty game of politics, she best expect the insults the same way men must expect insults.”

They’re essentially saying she can’t handle the heat herself.”

There’s a long list of men Trump has called phony. This article is phony.”

2A: The Trump Effect – The Senate has been confirming Trump nominees to empty federal benches as fast as they can process them. One result has been a major shift in the makeup of the 9th “Circus” Court, which is renowned for both ignoring the law in favor of promoting the Leftist agenda and also for being overturned by the Supreme Court.

Here’s the latest. A three judge panel on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has invalidated a California law banning the sale and possession of ammunition magazines that can hold more than ten rounds of ammunition. The ruling states that the state law violates the Second Amendment rights of residents.

CLINTON: This article by Donna Brazile is from 2017. It details how Hillary stole the 2016 Democratic nomination and froze out Bernie Sanders by hijacking control of the DNC long before she had won the primary.

When you have an open contest without an incumbent and competitive primaries, the party comes under the candidate’s control only after the nominee is certain.” – Donna Brazile
