HAIR LOVE: [6:47] – This Oscar®-winning animated short film has a big valentine message. Grab a tissue!
JUDICIAL: “Within minutes of Trump’s impeachment acquittal, McConnell lined up votes on 5 nominees, including Andrew Brasher to the 11th Circuit. This week, all 5 were confirmed. …
“What are we up to, 192? Don’t blink or the number will change. The transformation of the judiciary will be Trump’s long-lasting legacy.”
ROGER STONE: [5:08] – Other people have lied to Congress without even being slapped on the wrist. But Roger Stone gets seven to nine years? Never mind that the Trump-hating jury foreperson lied during voir dire in order to get on the jury!
Voir dire: [vwahr deer] The formal examination of a prospective juror under oath to determine suitability for jury service or of a prospective witness under oath to determine competence to give testimony.
JUSSIE SMOLLETT: Actor Jussie Smollett has been indicted on six new charges of disorderly conduct, accusing him of filing false police reports claiming he was the victim of a racist and homophobic attack last year.
MEDIA MALPRACTICE: CNN media critic Brian Stelter pounced on Fox News for supposedly ignoring a big breaking story that was damaging to President Donald Trump.
The only problem with this was that Fox News broke the story in the first place.
The social media blow back was as brutal as it was well deserved. My personal favorite was the guy who called Stelter an “incompetent buffoon.”
NEW YORK: Democrats making us less safe – New York’s new “Green Light Law,” which allows illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses, also withholds all DMV data from immigration agencies.
Local law enforcement can’t act as a conduit for that information, either.
“So, if Border Patrol came and said, ‘Hey, we want to look through your records because we’re looking for this guy,’ I can’t share our investigation with them if it has DMV data,” said Sheriff Barry Virts of Wayne County, New York.
It also creates complications for multi-agency task forces, says Virts, who estimates it’s just a matter of time before he, or another New York sheriff, faces a lawsuit.
ABORTION: [5:21] – New research shows that both the brain and nervous system of a fetus are developed enough for an unborn child to feel pain as early as 12 weeks after conception.
Even if you don’t accept that research, consider that most medical experts agree a fetus can definitely feel pain by 24 weeks gestation. Yet some states allow brutal abortion procedures to be performed right up to the moment of natural birth.
And thirty-five states (and the federal government) even turn a blind eye when it comes to babies who have the audacity to survive abortion.
Democrats claim we don’t need Born Alive laws because “infanticide is already illegal.”
But the reality is that babies who survive abortion are not considered infants. They are considered medical waste that needs to stop breathing as soon as possible, preferably in a bucket or closet where nobody has to see them squirm or hear them whimper.
CLIMATE: The International Energy Agency (IEA) report on global CO2 emissions in 2019 gave the U.S. and the European Union top marks.
“Global energy-related CO2 emissions flattened in 2019 at around 33 gigatonnes (Gt), following two years of increases. This resulted mainly from a sharp decline in CO2 emissions from the power sector in advanced economies1, thanks to the expanding role of renewable sources (mainly wind and solar PV), fuel switching from coal to natural gas, and higher nuclear power output.”
ANTI-BULLYING: It sounds noble, but in reality it is an abject failure. As the saying goes, “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.” Izzy Kalman examines the issue in an article at Mercator.net.
“Kids may enjoy making fun of others for being gay, just as they may enjoy making fun of kids for being fat, skinny, tall, short, red-haired, Black, Jewish or bespectacled. But they don’t necessarily hate them. What truly makes kids hate others and want to hurt them is when they inform on them to the authorities. Examine the news stories about bullying that led to serious violence or suicide. You will discover that the tragedies almost always occurred after the school was informed of the bullying.”
“Anti-bullyism is founded on the good intention of creating a society in which no one is made miserable by anyone else. Unfortunately, anti-bullyism has been a grand failure. After two full decades of anti-bullyism being championed by psychology, education and law, bullying is considered a growing epidemic, the suicide rate among young children has been skyrocketing, and lawsuits against schools for failing to make bullying stop are proliferating. …
“It is high time for researchers to ask why we they failed to conquer the bullying problem and to take responsibility for any harm caused by their policies.”
IS SWEARING A SIN?: [6:56] – A good use of seven minutes.
