meeked

BLESSED ARE THE MEEK: It doesn’t mean what you think it does – The dictionary says “meek” now means:

  1. Showing patience and humility; gentle.
  2. Easily imposed on; submissive.

That is NOT what Jesus was recommending to us. The Greek word that unfortunately gets translated as “meek” is “praus” (pronounced prah-oos).

According to the article linked below, praus was a military term referring to the temperament of a stallion who has been trained for war.

Such an animal learned so much discipline that it would respond instantly to its rider’s command, while still retaining its great spirit, courage and power. It galloped fearlessly into battle, yet amidst the noise, clashes, blood, and screams, it remained so tuned into its rider that it responded to a nudge or word to gallop ahead or stop on a dime, rear and strike out at an attacker or leap nimbly over a fallen comrade. Such horses were said to be “meeked.”

War horses are rare nowadays, but perhaps we can gain some appreciation for what Jesus meant by “Blessed are the meek” by studying police horses and K-9 officers and imagining ourselves as the animal with the Holy Spirit as our rider or handler.

TISSUE ALERT: I am both deeply saddened and greatly uplifted by this pony’s story. [5:00] – I’m putting it here as a possible Beatitudes meditation starter for you.

TRUMP most prolife

TRUMP: Defunding Planned Parenthood by Executive Order – Now that the courts have ruled in Trump’s favor, the Department of Health and Human Services says enforcement of the Protect Life Rule will begin immediately.

The Protect Life Rule prohibits Title X Family Planning funds from going to organizations or businesses that conduct or refer for abortions.

THE SQUAD: “These four are the reason there are instructions on the shampoo bottle.” Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) [3:40] – He says the moderate Democrats he knows are embarrassed by these women and hate the attention they’re taking away from substantive issues.

THE SQUAD: [3:04] – A member of Antifa, armed with a rifle and incendiary devices, carried out a terrorist attack on an ICE facility in Tacoma, Washington.

In this video, two of the extremist Democrats on “The Squad” – Rep. Ilhan Omar and Rep. Ayanna Presley – repeatedly refuse to condemn it.

abortion wen

ABORTION: During a secret meeting and without her knowledge or consent, Planned Parenthood’s Board of Directors fired Dr. Leana Wen from her post as PP’s President and CEO.

Wen is the first physician to attempt to lead the organization in nearly 50 years. Reportedly, the board didn’t like her efforts to turn abortion into a health issue rather than a political one.

I can see their point. If they ever start to talk seriously about abortion from the point of view of women’s health, they will have to address all the sexual abuse, physical damage, and deaths suffered by women during legal abortions, as well as the much higher rates of depression, addiction, suicide, breast cancer, and premature births among post-abortive women.

They can’t have that!

participation

PARTICIPATION TROPHY ADULTS: This is worth reading, particularly if you are raising childrenWhen you run across an adult-aged human who can’t take constructive criticism, you can be pretty sure they never got any from their parents, or maybe even not from their teachers. But the saddest part of this tale is that no one ever loved this young woman enough to provide her the guidance and discipline everyone needs to cope in the real world.”

storm area 51

STORM AREA 51: It might be an unserious, gamers’ prank (one hopes), but the Air Force has taken notice – Air Force spokeswoman Laura McAndrews warned anyone seriously intending to storm the site to think twice.

[Area 51] is an open training range for the U.S. Air Force, and we would discourage anyone from trying to come into the area where we train American armed forces,” she said. “The U.S. Air Force always stands ready to protect America and its assets.”

Facebook is so full of it when they claim they aren’t targeting the right. This open call to assault an Air Force base is supported by three different Facebook pages that have not been banned. But a woman who is campaigning to stop Drag Queen Story Hours at public libraries has had her entire page taken down.

  1. Oooo… I hate to do this.

Peeked into the garden patch to start my day and what’s the first thing I read.”Blessed are the meeked“???

Typos in graphics are a drag – you can replace the image, but, somewhere out there, someone has already copied the original, and it will be around forever and possibly more widespread than the correction. Even worse is typos in a video. Not only is text still the best entertainment value, it’s the most easily fixed.

Aside from my schoolteachers, I got some of this Grammar Nanny from my mom. A few times recently, Mom has mentioned seeing “deside” in a tv commercial. She said she couldn’t figure why they never fixed it.

Last night she said, here it is, this is the commercial. It’s for Twix, and while I don’t know what the point was (sound was off), the “s” was a stylized two-headed arrow, which told me it was intentional, as in “choosing sides,” or something like that. Mom seemed satisfied. 🙂

But then, think about how there will be a generation of people who now think “decise” is spelled with an “s”! Not kidding. See my Heap o’Links post Idiocracy Era: Another example.

Uh… guess I’ll go read the rest of your post now. 😕

ROFLLLLLLLLL … I thought that the whole time I was reading your first comment. “He hasn’t read it yet! Bwahaha!”

I originally made the graphic with “meek” then after I wrote the post, I thought it would be stronger to change it to “meeked” since that would make people (like you ha ha) go, WHAT?!

I mean, everyone thinks they know what “Blessed are the meek” means. I wanted my graphic to niggle into that and maybe keep a few people from just skipping the blog altogether. Cuz the real meaning is SO AWESOMELY COOL.

Well! SO glad my stupidity could bring you such mirth. I was intentionally targeted! You’ve caused me such embarrassment, I can’t tell you how badly I’m triggered. I need to take my fluffy bunny doll and my crayons and go to my safe space to recover. You big meanie!

The real meaning is so awesomely cool … that, in fact I swiped featured it for this Sunday’s post on Other People’s Stuff, With h/t to you, even if you were a big meanie to me.

        😀

[My day started off on the wrong foot. An aggravating foot. Your reply cheered me up enough I might be able to face the rest of the day.]
