May 29, 2019: Special Counsel Robert Mueller, in his first public appearance since being appointed to lead the Russia investigation.
REACTIONS TO MUELLER’S STATEMENT: There is one primary point that is repeated over and over in the commentaries below – In our system of justice, it’s “innocent until proven guilty.” Mueller and the Democrats want to turn that on its head and say, “Trump can’t PROVE he’s innocent, therefore he must be guilty.” The videos are posted by length, shortest first.

ON THE OTHER SIDE: Eugene Gu, MD, wrote a string of tweet replies to Trump’s tweet (above). I think they summarize the Democrat response.
It’s not a witch hunt and the huge crime was that Russian intelligence services hacked Hillary Clinton’s private information along with that of the DNC and disseminated this information through WikiLeaks.
Then the huge crime on top of that was that Donald Trump obstructed Robert Mueller’s investigation into an unprecedented and hostile foreign attack on the United States. This endangered our country and is much more serious than obstructung justice to cover up a personal crime.
So it’s not “no collusion, no obstruction.” It’s no smoking gun evidence of criminal collusion but a ton of evidence of obstruction of justice. And since Mueller believes it is unconstitutional to indict a sitting president, he is begging Congress to do its job and impeach him.
To the extent that he could indict others, Mueller took down a ton of key Trump campaign officials. The only reason why Trump isn’t being dragged away in handcuffs is because he believes our Constitution leaves it up to Congress, not the courts, to prosecute a sitting president.
Plus it goes without saying Trump committed a ton of personal crimes that should be easily uncovered by Congress with its subpoena powers. That 130K hush money payment to Stormy Daniels seemed to violate campaign finance laws. Lots of shady business deals too.
To win in 2020, Democrats must focus on tearing down Trump instead of our own candidates. Mueller‘s statement today gives us that opportunity and Speaker Nancy Pelosi must start impeachment proceedings now. Incidentally, it upholds the rule of law and is the right thing to do.
So when both the political and moral calculations tell you to start impeachment proceedings against Donald J. Trump, there’s only one logical thing left to do.
We must impeach and imprison the President of the United States.
Methinks Dr. Gu is a YUGE fan of Rachel Maddow! LOL
