Bits & Bytes

AG ORDERS INVESTIGATION: This is the investigation we’ve been asking for Attorney General William Barr has appointed John Durham, the U.S. attorney in Connecticut, to conduct an inquiry on the origins of the Russian investigation and to check the legality of the FBI’s surveillance of the Trump campaign in 2016.

Yes, there have been four investigations already. The differences here are that the target is the investigators, not Trump, and that Durham has the power to indict.

IMMIGRATION FRAUD: Nearly 100 people have been arrested in a sham marriage scheme. Those found guilty of marriage fraud, or conspiring to commit marriage fraud, face a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

Burkina Faso

ISLAMIST TERROR: In December, the government of Burkina Faso declared a state of emergency in several of its northern provinces, because of Islamist attacks. In April, six died during an attack on a Protestant church; another four died during an attack on another Catholic church. Last Friday, teachers were shot to death. On Sunday, six people, including a priest, were murdered during Mass and the church was burned down.

2019_05 08 Kabul bombing

CELEBRATING RAMADAN: Islamic terrorists, mainly the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL), carried out more than 30 attacks in over ten countries during the first week of the holy month of Ramadan, killing at least 166 people and injuring 155 others. Photo: At least 9 people died in the bombing of the Kabul office of Counterpart International, a group that promotes gender equity.

BETTER DEAD: There were a lot of tweet responses to this ghoul’s self-congratulations for murdering her own child. My personal favorite was this one: “I will never understand the idea that dead is better than alive even if that life is a difficult one. My mom gave me a heritable risk for cancer, I grew up poor, I’ve struggled with my mental health and have a chronic illness – but I’d always rather be alive than dead!”

ABORTION: According to this Democrat, treating an unborn human being like a U.S. citizen is “draconian” and “extremist.”

He also over-states the case; the proposed law would make committing abortion a felony. There is no penalty for the woman who has it done to her.

Plus, gimme a break with the whole getting outraged over legislators standing up and applauding thing. New York legislators did the same thing when they legalized abortion up to birth for any reason whatsoever and THEN they lit up the World Trade Tower with Planned Parenthood’s trademark pink.

CLIMATE CHANGE: Do we only have 12 years left? – On Sunday, AOC complained that conservative fact checkers are stoooopid.

“This is a technique of the GOP, to take dry humor + sarcasm literally and ‘fact check’ it. Like the ‘world ending in 12 years’ thing, you’d have to have the social intelligence of a sea sponge to think it’s literal. But the GOP is basically Dwight from The Office so who knows.”

Ocasio-Cortez is being disingenuous with her snarky remarks. She is a sitting congresswoman; Beto is a presidential candidate. They are politicians, not comedians or satirists.

Plus, I’ve seen plenty of stupid “fact checking” done about things Trump has said when the context and tone made it very clear he was joking. He smirks; the audience laughs.

There’s none of that here. When AOC and Beto say, “We only have 12 years”, they sound dead serious.

F***ING SCIENCE: Bill Nye is a scientist in the same way that Hillary Clinton is the president. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and he starred on a science-based kids’ tv show once upon a long time ago. Period.

INDOCTRINATING CHILDREN: “Arthur,” the longest-running animated series for children in the USA, began its twenty-second season with the surprise “marriage” of Arthur the Aardvark’s teacher Mr. Ratburn to another man.

TWO GREATS LEAVE US: Doris Day and Tim Conway both passed away recently.
