3 ways to fail

Sanctimony City

BORDER: Surprising win for Trump – The notoriously left-wing 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled May 7 that the United States can require asylum seekers to wait in Mexico for a court hearing. The ruling overturned that of a San Francisco judge who had said they could remain in the U.S.

San Francisco is home to the ever-sanctimonious House Speaker, San Fran Nan Pelosi, who famously called Trump’s proposal to send excess asylum seekers to sanctuary cities a “notion that is unworthy of the presidency of the United States and the disrespect for the challenges we face as a country and people to address who we are, a nation of immigrants.”

immigration reform

IMMIGRATION: White House launches new bid to overhaul our broken system – President Trump has apparently signed off on the immigration plan devised by his son-in-law Jared Kushner. The plan would not change the number of legal immigrants accepted every year, but would make the system more merit-based. The plan was shared with several GOP senators at the White House. Sen. Tom Cotton, an immigration hardliner, said he “heard large areas of agreement from everyone in the room.”

NADLER vs. BARR: At Chairman Nadler’s urging, Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee voted to hold Attorney General Barr in contempt for refusing to respond to the committee’s subpoena. The Department of Justice blasted the move, saying it was “politically motivated and unnecessary” and that Barr cannot comply with the restriction the committee placed on him “without violating the law, court rules, and court orders.”

House Judiciary Committee ranking member Doug Collins, a Georgia Republican, agreed. “Chairman Nadler knows full subpoena compliance requires Attorney General Barr to break the law. Yet, instead of introducing legislation allowing the attorney general to provide Congress grand jury material, Democrats move to hold him in contempt.”

Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio said, “Democrats are nervous [Barr’s] gonna get to the bottom of everything.”

TRUMP ECONOMY: General Motors recently announced that they are planning to invest $700 million into the great state of Ohio. The plan will involve hiring 450 more workers.

SOCIALISM SUCKS: Chad makes a point about the evils of socialism that I’ve never heard before. It’s a good one.

BDS and TERRORISM: There is an anti-Israel movement in the United States called Boycott, Divest and Sanction (BDS) that aims to politically and economically isolate Israel at the international level in order to advance Palestinian political objectives. The movement has ties to Palestinian groups on the State Department’s list of designated terrorist organizations.
