Bits & Bytes

All the not-wall stuff I didn’t post yesterday. 🙂

My parish church is so pretty. Because of my chemical hypersensitivities, I haven’t seen it in person in about 20 years, but Mama Buzz took pics when they were here.

2018_12 crocheted nativity

I’m feeling a tad teary right now. I crocheted these for the grands and Army Princess just texted, “the kids slept with their Grammy nativity last night.” ::sniff:: I’m still working on shepherds/animals and Magi, which will be gifted later. I couldn’t get all of them done for this Christmas, but the girls and I decided that spacing them out would be more fun for the kids anyway. The adults are about 4″ tall.

TRAFFICKING VICTIMS PROTECTION REAUTHORIZATION ACT: President Trump signed this act, one of 4 major bipartisan pieces of legislation he has signed into law recently to help prosecute human traffickers, protect victims, and prevent these crimes before they take place.

KELLYANNE 1, ACOSTA 0:

Acosta“Kellyanne, can you promise the president will tell the truth tonight?”

Conway — “Yes, Jim, and can you promise you will? The whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help you God? Am I allowed to mention God to you? Make sure that goes viral. This is why I’m one of the only people around here who even gives you the time of day. And let me get back in your face because you’re such a smartass most of the time and I know you want this to go viral,” she said. Pointing to the press pool, she continued, “A lot of these people don’t like you.”

THE BIGGEST STORY NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT: Rush Limbaugh talks about Alabama’s “false flag” scandal — Democrat-funded campaigns used Russian-bot tactics to torpedo Republican Roy Moore.

CUOMO’S NEW YORK: NYC is already the abortion capital of the country — Our governor, Andrew Cuomo, says he will veto the state budget if it does not expand abortion-on-demand to birth. Under current state law, abortion is legal up until 24 weeks in pregnancy. Hmmm … won’t sign the budget if he doesn’t get something he wants that many of his constituents do not want. Would that qualify as “legislating via temper tantrum”?

THIS IS FAIRLY TERRIFYING: Prager University Do you care about the race of your doctor, or the gender of the person who built the bridge you drive across? The latest trend across STEM fields claims you should. Heather Mac Donald, Fellow at the Manhattan Institute and author of The Diversity Delusion, explains where these destructive ideas are coming from. Check out Heather Mac Donald’s latest book “The Diversity Delusion”: https://amzn.to/2RbStSc.

PRAGERU SUES GOOGLE: YouTube has demonetized and put many PragerU videos on restricted mode — The suit claims Google has restricted the nonprofit’s freedom of speech contrary to the state constitution, discriminated against Prager on a religious and political basis in violation of the state’s civil rights act, engaged in unlawful, misleading, and unfair businesses practices contrary to the state’s unfair competition laws, and violated YouTube’s own terms of service.

GOOD RIDDANCE: Sarah Silverman’s show canceled — Hulu has canceled I Love You America with Sarah Silverman. Maybe if she hadn’t used the show to call the country “dogsh*t,” mock Jesus and claim Trump had gone “full Hitler”, America would’ve loved her back.

In March 2017, when Hulu announced they were picking up the show from the Funny or Die website, they claimed Silverman was “looking to connect with people who may not agree with her personal opinions…while it’s great to connect with like-minded people, Silverman feels it’s crucial, now more than ever, to connect with the un-like-minded.”

Oh. All righty then.

FOODIE ME: Dearest and I are feeling better with the keto (high-fat, low-carb) diet I put us on five months ago. Recently, I saw a study about non-Celiac people who feel better when they cut gluten out, but the test showed their sensitivity is actually to fructan, not gluten. Fructan is high in gluten-rich foods, but it is ALSO high in some other foods, many of which are eliminated by the keto diet. I think it’ll be helpful for us if I go further in limiting the high fructan foods we’re still eating.

HAPPY DANCING: I was pouting about the fact that two of my staple foods — onions and garlic — are high in fructan. Then I had a brainstorm and googled “does fermenting reduce fructan” and found a study showing that fermenting “significantly lowered fructan levels in problem foods like shallots and garlic.” Ha! I already ferment garlic. All I need to do is start fermenting onions too then I can continue to enjoy them both. Whee!!

  2. Crocheted creche is tremendously cute.

Had to pause a moment when I mis-read that as being 4′ not 4″ tall. 😮

Glad you had that snippet of transcript under the Conway-Acosta clip. Jim talking over her made it hard to hear her. (Never like those interviews where everyone’s talking at once.) If I can’t hear her, I know he can’t. Not a reporter (who listens and reports), but an activist (who doesn’t listen, just blurts).

Trump quits giving California emergency money for emergencies they create. That’s good, but (a) it’s not like the demented dictators of the Golden State are going to change their ways and (b) some Obama judge will order the money to be delivered anyway. Wonder how that’s going to work out long-term. Is this just for forest management? What about when the Big Quake (or a smaller one) goes off?
