Red-state Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp says she will vote no on Kavanaugh
She’s already 10 points behind in her race in a state Trump won handily. Wonder what her payoff will be for falling on her sword?
Heidi Heitkamp, a red-state Democratic senator who faced increasingly long odds of re-election this fall, said Thursday that she will vote against confirming Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
A small problem with the reporting here. Headlines, bullet points, and article share the problem.
Heitkamp, facing re-election in a state President Donald Trump won by nearly 40 percentage points in 2016…
a red-state Democratic senator…
Heitkamp faces a difficult path to re-election against Republican Rep. Kevin Cramer…
And that state would be…? (ND) Guess they don’t teach “where” as a real thing in journalism kindergarten anymore. Or it’s east-cost bias: “Meh, some flyover red state, who cares which one!”)
And just a personal windmill-tilting: I really don’t like the red-blue division they foisted on us. (Here is my illustrated thinking on the colors.)
But if I were doing the voting maps, I’d have all the GOP places be red-white-and-blue, and the Dems would be red with little yellow hammer-and-sickles.
