I don’t get why one person’s complaint automatically means other people have to change what they’re doing. It just seems to me that sometimes we could tell the complainers, “We’re sorry you feel that way, but you need to get over yourself.”
I had a boss like this once. During the one year I worked for him, busy-bodies in another department complained to him about me several times. These were TERRIBLE THINGS I’d done … asking if the woman who had given me a ride to the 2 hours long on a 90 degree August day job interview could come inside and wait in the a/c, then when I got hired, asking when my first paycheck would come and how much it would be, so I could plan my bills. Seriously, I got “spoken to” about both these things many weeks after I started the job, when my boss was annoyed about something I’d done and threw these alleged “sins” in my face as “evidence” that I wasn’t working out as he’d hoped.
Later, I arranged with him to arrive and leave a half hour late, so that I could take best advantage of the bus schedule. Several other people (who owned cars) were in the office on time, so the phone was covered. But when those same biddies complained that I was coming to work late, instead of telling them to mind their business, my boss made me take the hour earlier bus!
There was yet another incident when one of these witches wandered through my work station and saw me reading a magazine. I was actually babysitting a deadly dull machine that HAD to be babysat. Because of the complaint, I was banned from doing anything to occupy my mind while the machine spun. When I quit, a retarded girl was hired part time to do that part of the job.
After several visits to a doctor for depression, I was told, “You know what your problem is. Go fix it.” I had no money in the bank and only 10 days until the rent was due, but I realized this idiotic situation was slowly killing me, so I asked God to “HELP!!!!” and left.
My employment agent told me to take a couple days off to decompress. I did. It was great advice. I had been looking for a new job for a while, but was so down, I interviewed poorly. One guy told me he liked my qualifications, but not my attitude. After quitting and taking some days to just care about me, I nailed the next interview and got a job I loved with a boss who respected me.
Funny story … months later, my girlfriend started dating a new guy who went to work in that office after I left. When he learned my name, he exclaimed, “Holy cow! She’s a LEGEND at work … the only person to ever successfully STICK IT TO ROD.” LOL

The bill will enable people with terminal illnesses like Jordan to try experimental treatments and bypass the Food and Drug Administration.
