After a mass shooting, we always hear, “Why didn’t somebody notice?”
I always reply that it isn’t that easy to get someone to pay attention. I had a friend once who began behaving very erratically. She collected knives and had military training, so several of us tried to get someone to pay attention. It was not easy, but we finally succeeded and the woman, who had indeed suffered a psychotic break, got help before she hurt anyone other than herself.
Anyway, I was gratified to read this story, because it’s about law enforcement getting it exactly right.
A Texas teenager was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly plotting a mass shooting at a local shopping center after pledging his allegiance to ISIS.
Authorities say he had spent around $1,400 on weapons and tactical gear for his attack, had written a “manifesto”, and told someone things like, “Just fire where u hear screams” and “I’d actually like to make a cop surrender and drop his gun. Then, douse him with gasoline and burn him. Record it.”
The FBI believes that there are no additional threats associated with his arrest.
