In Memoriam

Sadly, we have to add another name to the list of those who have left us. A brilliant writer and singer, Mel Tillis, passed away at the age of 85.

Mel Tillis, Singer-Songwriter and Country Music Hall of Famer, Dies at 85
THERE ARE A LIMITED NUMBER OF TALENTS WHO ARE SO UNIQUE YOU HEAR THE VOICE AND KNOW INSTANTLY WHO IT IS.  THIS GENTLE SOUL WAS ONE OF THEM.

“Mel Tillis spent a lifetime giving us joy and laughter and music, which is why his death brings such sadness,” said Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum CEO Kyle Young. “Had he never stepped on a stage, he would still have been one of the funniest and most genuine people on the planet.”

THEN THERE’S A MISERABLE SPAWN FROM HELL WHO HAS FINALLY GOTTEN WHAT HE HAS DESERVED FOR MORE THAN 50 YEARS.

Charles Manson, cult leader and serial killer who terrified nation, dies at 83Charles Manson, the fiery-eyed cult master whose lemming-like followers staged a bloody two-night murder rampage in Los Angeles in 1969 that gripped the city with fear and shocked the nation, died on Nov. 19 at a hospital in Kern County, Calif. He was 83.

A spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation confirmed the death by email, saying he died of natural causes. Mr. Manson, who was serving a life sentence at California State Prison in Corcoran, Calif., had had health problems in recent years and was hospitalized in January for gastrointestinal bleeding, according to news reports.

I stopped listening to C&W because it’s too depressing, but still loved when Mel spoke, when Jerry Clower told his stories (Ray Stevens put many of his stories to song, and, if Jer is to be believed, his stories were fact, not fiction, including Mississippi Squirrel 🙂 Della Reese also left us. A strong woman, gentle and kindly, she was a conservative to recon with. When working with Redd Foxx, a man infamous for a foul mouth, she asked him to please not tell dirty stories when she was around. She was a Christian and disliked them, and a man should be a gentleman. He agreed. Next morning on the set, he was telling one as she walked in. Smiling, she stepped to him and reminded him he had agreed. He started to tell her off. She gave him a hay-maker that knocked him ten feet away. He never told another dirty ditty around her again. Women have that right, for men to act like men, not like King Ahab (neolib girly boy weakling). Peace to you in our sorrow.
