Thank God for Pete! I have been sick in bed for the past 3 days, so the burden of amusing and informing all y’all has fallen squarely on his shoulders. I’m back and way behind, so here are some brief goodies that Pete may or may not have already covered.

Catholics just celebrated the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. There’s an article here that explains the Catholic doctrine of the Assumption and why it is not contrary to Scripture.

I’ll stick more in COMMENTS below if I see anything … which I probably will. 🙂

On August 15, 2017, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill that will keep Texans from having to pay for elective abortions through their insurance plans. I love that it happened on the Feast of the Assumption of Mary!

CBS reported that Iceland was “on pace to virtually eliminate Down syndrome through abortion.” Pro-life actress Patricia Heaton noted: “Iceland isn’t actually eliminating Down Syndrome. They’re just killing everybody that has it. Big difference.”

    • Killing Down’s Syndrome babies is bad enough, but don’t forget about all of the babies that are miscarried as a result of the amniocentesis used to detect Down’s Syndrome. NB: I am NOT criticizing people who undergo amniocentesis for valid reasons; I understand that sometimes it is necessary for the health of the mother and/or baby. However, it does increase the risk of miscarriage, so it shouldn’t be done unless it’s necessary.

The sister of a woman I know underwent amniocentesis to determine whether her baby had Down Syndrome, because she wanted to be prepared for it if it happened. She had no intention of aborting the baby if it had DS. It turned out that the baby did not have DS, but she miscarried as a result of the procedure. I’m sure everyone had assured her that it was perfectly safe, which it generally is, except when it isn’t.

I had 7 amnios with my 3rd pregnancy. God gave us a miracle and healed our very sick little girl, who TA DA! grew up to be a U.S. Marine!

But I remember how, every time, I had to sign a form saying I understood there was a 1% chance that the procedure would cause a miscarriage.

When I was having a lot of scary preterm labor, I asked if that number increased with subsequent procedures and, if so, was it arithmetical or exponential.

The nurse shrugged and said nobody knew. “There aren’t enough women who have multiple amnios like you are to compile any statistics.”

The coolest part of having had all those amnios was that we have documented proof that our little one was suffering from an untreatable, incurable, and potentially lethal disorder (Rh disease) at 20 weeks, but had gradually healed until she was born full term and healthy.

Our doctor, a specialist in high risk pregnancy, responded to my claim that “prayer works wonders” with, “You can call it a miracle if you want to. I sure can’t explain it.”

        • Your amnios were obviously for a valid reason, and not done because you were planning to bump off the baby if she didn’t live up to your standards of perfection. Equally obvious is that your guardian angels, and Warrior Princess’s guardian angels, were working overtime to ensure that all of those needle jabs in the abdomen did not in any way harm her… even though they probably scared the bejesus out of Mom. 🙂

This is interesting. I JUST finished a novel that featured a doctor who was working to develop a viable artificial womb. I wondered if that was total science fiction, but it seems it’s real enough that abortion sympathizers are starting to get concerned about how the technology could impact abortion rights.
