On Wednesday, President Trump signed an executive order giving his Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, about a year to prepare a report on areas within the federal Department of Education that infringe on state and local education decisions and need to be eliminated.
“We know that local communities do it best and know it best,” Trump said. “The time has come to empower teachers and parents to make the decisions that help their students achieve success.”
Case in point:
Today, President Trump created a new office in the Department of Veterans Affairs tasked with identifying and weeding out poorly performing employees.
It will also be tasked with protecting whistle blowers from retaliation and conducting an internal review of the VA to make eliminate unnecessary duplication of services.
The VA has been criticized for years for failing to quickly fire problematic employees, and Trump repeatedly vowed on the campaign trail that he would increase accountability at the VA.
I’m enthused. I hope it actually works.
