News of the Day

Two events of note today:

First, and most important (to ME anyway), today marks 22 years I’ve officially been a pain in my wife’s backside. She gets looks of sympathy from everybody from my family to the checkout people at Walmart. I sit on a scooter at the end of the checkout as she’s paying for her purchases and crack wise. The looks of pity she gets from total strangers are priceless.

Second, today is the day the DNC chooses the next socialist to send the party farther into the wilderness. The choices are Tom Perez, a friend of the Clintons, Joe Biden, and Eric Holder, OR Keith Ellison, the anti-Semitic, hard-left, community-organizing Muslim who is backed by Bernie Sanders, Upchuck Schumer, and the rest of the usual suspects. It matters not a whit who they choose because their message of violence, intolerance, and total government control will never change.

Michael Moore endorses Ellison for DNC chair: Party needs ‘fresh blood’
Moore went on to lay out why he believes Ellison is the best suited to lead the DNC.“He’s from the Midwest,” Moore said. “Before he was a congressman in Minnesota, he helped turn Minnesota from what was then a red state into a blue state. He did political neighborhood organizing in the state of Minnesota. We need an organizer who is going to bring people out and turn this party around.”

The Case for Tom Perez Makes No Sense
His supporters say he’s just as progressive as Keith Ellison. So why bother fielding him at all?  Ellison has captured the support of the left wing. Ellison backed Sanders early in his primary race against Hillary Clinton, and was one of the first candidates to announce his bid for DNC chair. The Hill reports, “Perez supporters have expressed concern about handing the party over to the Sanders wing of the party, arguing that Ellison would move the party too far to the left.” And the New York Times suggests that Democratic leaders pushed Perez to run because they viewed Ellison as too close to the Sanders wing.

The Sanders vs. Clinton schism in the Democratic party isn’t going away

Keith Ellison is the progressive choice being supported by Sanders himself. As Ed noted yesterday, Ellison is already taking a far left line, pushing for impeachment of President Trump (who has also offered a semi-endorsement of Ellison). But moderates in the party don’t like Ellison much.
Case in point, today Alan Dershowitz wrote a piece for the Hill threatening to leave the party if Ellison becomes chairman:
“There has been powerful push from the hard-left of the Democratic Party, led by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), to elect Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) chairman. If he is elected, I will quit the party after 60 years of loyal association and voting.”

DNC chair vote: live coverage

Here is a look at the clicker Democrats will use to register their votes, courtesy of Frank Leone, a DNC member from Virginia. Members will also fill out paper ballots that will be collected for a later audit.
There are believed to be several dozen members that are not on hand who instead sent proxies to register their votes.

Obama, Democratic ‘super group’ unite to end gerrymandering, win state races, reclaim majorities

“America needs non-partisan redistricting commissions,” O’Malley said at Boston College Law School, where he’s now a visiting professor. “This simple reform … must become the new norm of American democracy. … How can we expect people to vote if their voice has been carved into irrelevance by a political map ahead of time?”

An early test for Democrats trying to win state-level races and stopping the Trump wave arrives this weekend.

Delaware is holding a special election for an open state Senate seat that will decided whether Democrats keep their roughly 40-year hold on the chamber.

“If we lose, a new Republican majority will take power and rubber-stamp every single one of Trump’s hateful policies,” the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee said in a recent fundraising letter. “They’ll grind all our progress to a halt.”

Street Artist Mocks Hollywood And The Oscars With Fake Movie Posters
Conservative artist Sabo created fake movie posters to mock Hollywood and the Oscars ahead of Sunday’s show to send a message to celebrities who keep attacking President Donald Trump.

The Los Angeles based street artist plastered the movie posters and “fake Redbox kiosks” Thursday night he created in “hard to reach places” near where celebrities will be walking the red carpet at the 89th Academy Awards show, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

“Yeah, we wouldn’t have paid full price to watch any Oscar nominated movies either,” one of the sayings on the fake RedBox kiosks read.
“These pieces look so legit no one is thinking to take them down,” Sabo said. “It almost looks like a real Redbox ad. I consider this piece my representation of the discounting of Hollywood.”

Spicer: President Trump Will Not Watch The Academy Awards This Year

President Trump will not watch the Academy Awards Sunday night, press secretary Sean Spicer said at the briefing Wednesday.
“I’ve got to be honest with you, I think the president will be hosting the Governors Ball that night,” Spicer said when asked if Trump would be watching. “The first lady has put a lot of time into this event, welcoming our nation’s governors to the capital. I have a feeling that’s where the president and first lady are going to be focused on Sunday night, so we’ll go from there.”

Before that, Spicer was asked why he thinks celebrities like Meryl Streep give politically charged speeches from the stage at awards shows.

“I have no idea. It’s a free country. I think Hollywood is known for being rather far to the left in its opinions.”

Hostin to Hollywood: Use Oscars Stage for ‘Social Justice’

Joy Behar began the segment by snarking, “If ever there was a year to make a political statement during a speech, it’s this one.” She continued:

BEHAR: But 66% of Trump supporters say they’ll change the channel if that happens
SUNNY HOSTIN: It was incredible, that moment! And that’s the thing. I feel like, to much is given, to much is required. You have this significant, significant platform. Why not use it for social justice? Why not use it to make the point?

CBS to GOP Senator: What Was It Like to Be ‘Humbled’ By Lib Town Hall?

CBS This Morning’s Gayle King on Friday reveled in Tom Cotton being booed at a town hall meeting this week. Talking to the Senator, she pressed for all the details: “Senator Cotton is joining us now at the table with his screams of ‘do your jobs’ still fresh in your ears, I’m sure. What was that like for you?”
Prior to that, King played a clip of the raucous crowd yelling. She then focused on how this must have “humbled” the Republican: “Many people in that room had voted for you and now they’re booing you. It had to be a humbling experience for you.”

Farage at CPAC: My Favorite Part of Election Night Was Watching CNN

Farage has yet to forgive Obama for his comments he made before Britain’s formal vote to leave the European Union, and reminded CPAC that he thanks Obama to this day.

“I will, to my dying day, be grateful that President Obama came to my country, intervened in the referendum, and told the United Kingdom’s people — America’s greatest friend and ally in the world — that if we voted to get our independence, we would go to the back of the line,” he said.

AG Sessions Is Now In Session: Orders Prison Utilization Increase To Handle All-New ICE Roundups

Then Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates wrote in a statement, “Private prisons served an important role during a difficult period, but time has shown they compare poorly to our own Bureau facilities. They simply do not provide the same level of correctional services, programs and resources; they do not save substantially on costs; and…they do not maintain the same level of safety and security.”
Now, Attorney General Jeff Sessions is intent on undoing all of that. On Thursday, he issued a memorandum stating that Yates had, “changed long-standing policy and practice, and impaired the Bureau’s ability to meet the future needs of the federal correctional system.”

Sessions ordered that the BOP should return to using private prisons in order to restore the flexibility to manage fluctuating inmate population needs.

Pentagon ditches onerous rules of engagement, gives Mosul troops quicker firepower access

“It changed the relationship [between forces],” Lt. Col. Browning told The Associated Press about increased flexibility on the battlefield. “It gives me a better understanding of how I can bring to bear the limited capabilities I have.”

The new rules, which were supplemented with more directives weeks ago, allow U.S. personnel to better assist — physically and logistically — the Iraqi army’s 9th Division. Advisers are increasingly embedded with Iraqis and they can avoid cumbersome requests through a joint command center.

“[We previously] would have gone through a whole bureaucracy and through Baghdad,” the officer told AP by phone.

Trump goes hunting for ‘job-killing regulations’

Establishes task forces to seek out, eliminate nearly $1 trillion in Obama red tape

After he already warned federal regulators to be prepared to eliminate two regulations for every new one they propose, President Trump on Friday launched a full-scale hunt to identify and remove unneeded federal rules and requirements that hinder business.
Trump explained: “Excessive regulations are killing jobs, driving companies out of our country like never before. … Today this executive order directs each agency to establish a regulatory reform task force. It will ensure that every agency has a team of dedicated people to research all regulations that are unnecessary, burdensome and harmful to the economy, and harmful to the creation of jobs and business.”

Illegal immigrant ‘Dreamer’ to deliver Spanish Dem response to Trump

Democrats have tapped an illegal immigrant “Dreamer” to deliver the Spanish-language response to President Trump’s speech to Congress next week, elevating the fight over immigration policy that’s come to dominate the first weeks of the new administration.

Astrid Silva, who is in the country under protection of President Obama’s 2012 deportation amnesty, also spoke at Democrats’ presidential convention last summer.

HuffPo Writer Tossed from CPAC For Handing Out Russian ‘Trump’ Flags

A man named Ryan Clayton was thrown out of CPAC for handing out Russian flags with ‘Trump’ written on them.

Ryan Clayton is a leftist who is a part of Bob Creamer’s group ‘Americans Taking Action’.

Bob Creamer is a provocateur who was busted by Project Veritas in a series of undercover videos. Creamer used ‘bird dogging’ to incite violence at Donald Trump’s rallies.

ome news outlets reported that CPAC attendees were waving the flags as if they were pro-Russia.

But the reports left out the fact that a veteran political hatchet man named Ryan Clayton actually distributed the flags, which bore the name “Trump” on them.

Liberal Protesters Disrupt Opening Prayer, Pledge of Allegiance at Republican Town Hall

Liberal protesters yelled throughout the opening prayer and Pledge of Allegiance on Wednesday during Sen. Bill Cassidy’s (R., La.) town hall meeting in Metairie, La.
Before Cassidy addressed the crowd and took questions, Louisiana State chaplain Dr. Michael Sprague announced that he would begin the prayer. As soon as he said “prayer” the crowd erupted.

Several people could be heard yelling, “Prayer? Prayer?” while other people yelled, “Separation of church and state.”

Another person added, “Pray on your own time. This is our time.”

What? Liberals are now interrupting and screaming over the opening prayer and Pledge of Allegiance at town-hall events?

Radical Liberalism is the enemy of Christianity because it sees it as a competitor to their vision of an all-powerful State. Liberals foolishly believe your “rights” are given to you by the State, while Conservatives understand that your Rights are given to you by God. It’s incidents such as this one that will keep liberalism limited to the irrelevant minority it has become.

Petition calls on Obama to run for president in France

A petition launched on Monday calls on the former US president to run in this year’s French elections, which will be held in April and May. Called Obama17, the petition aims to garner 1 million signatures by March 2015, and as of Friday morning, it had already gained 30,000, according to one of the people behind the effort. But even the people who launched the website acknowledge that the chances of Obama actually ascending to the Elysée Palace are virtually zero. French law requires presidential candidates to be French, which Obama is not.

Bush daughter headlines Planned Parenthood fundraiser

Barbara Pierce Bush, the daughter of former President George W. Bush, will be the keynote speaker at Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas’ annual Fort Worth luncheon, helping to raise money for an organization that provides an array of reproductive and sexual health services, including abortions.

Bush’s public appearance before the group is striking, given that her father, President George W. Bush, was a staunch abortion opponent during his time as Texas governor and as president.

This is at True Pundit, which appears to be a serious (if blatantly right wing) news site, not a fake news site. I haven’t seen anything about this elsewhere, so I have no idea if it’s true.

According to White House officials, Senator John McCain is believed to have somehow gained access to the content of President Donald Trump’s private, classified telephone calls with world leaders and is sharing this sensitive information with colleagues and his cabal of friendly mainstream media journalists.
