Afternoon Delight

Starland Vocal Band had their one and only hit in 1976. At the time it was almost scandalous. Just think, adults exchanging bodily fluids before supper. And in front of the dog! The cat acted aloof and couldn’t care less.

Republicans Stole the Supreme Court
Democrats, don’t let them get away with it.
We are told to give him a chance, to reach across the aisle, and that we must all work hard, in President Obama’s formulation, to make sure that Trump succeeds. But before you decide to take Obama’s advice, I would implore you to stand firm and even angry on this one point at least: The current Supreme Court vacancy is not Trump’s to fill. This was President Obama’s vacancy and President Obama’s nomination. Please don’t tacitly give up on it because it was stolen by unprecedented obstruction and contempt. Instead, do to them what they have done to us. Sometimes, when they go low, we need to go lower, to protect a thing of great value.

Vets group wants Congress to wait for Trump to pass more aggressive VA reform bill
A massive veterans reform bill backed by the Department of Veterans Affairs will face resistance in Congress’ lame-duck session starting Tuesday from a group intent on letting the new Republican-controlled Senate and President-Elect Donald Trump have a say in how expeditiously VA employees can be fired.
With only a couple of months left as VA Secretary, Bob McDonald is making one final appeal to Congress to pass the reform bill that’s the culmination of his two-year tenure. The 400-page Veterans First Act contains dozens of provisions to streamline the appeals process for disability compensation, allow more leeway in disciplining employees and grant VA medical staff the ability to work flexible hours, among other things.

Obama’s looking forward to a vacation after the White House
President Obama’s first executive action after leaving the White House will be to take some R&R.
“I will take a vacation for a couple weeks after my presidency is over,” he told Democratic National Committee stakeholders in a conference call Monday evening, without specifying a location.
“But then we’re going to get back to work,” he added.

Conway: ‘I Completely Agree’ With Obama That Trump Is Pragmatic and Not Ideological

At his first news conference since Trump’s defeat of Hillary Clinton, Obama addressed the transition process and what he expects from his successor on Monday.
“I don’t think he is ideological. I think ultimately he is pragmatic,” Obama said. “And that can serve him well, as long as he’s got good people around him.”
Conway said she “completely” agreed with that description from Obama when asked about it by Today host Savannah Guthrie.

An Arrogant and Lazy Presidency
It’s safe to say that there has rarely, if ever, been a president more absolutely sure of the utter and total correctness of his positions than Barack Obama.
It is also quite accurate to say that there has never been a president who implemented such fundamentally impactful policies while circumventing the usual legislative process as Barack Obama. No president has ever announced that he has “a pen and a phone, and I intend to use them if Congress won’t act.”
Carpe Diem, Mr. Trump
While we speak, a jealous age will have fled. Seize the day! Trust as little as you can in tomorrow. The Latin poet Horace’s advice of carpe diem— to seize the day and not worry about tomorrow — should be Trump’s transitional guide.

Steve Bannon and Keith Ellison: Do the Democrats Really Care About Anti-Semitism?
The record is clear.
President-elect Trump has enraged the establishment media by choosing Steven K. Bannon as his chief strategist, because Bannon, they claim on the flimsiest of evidence, is a white supremacist and an anti-Semite. Meanwhile, that same media is hailing Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) for announcing his candidacy for Chairman of the Democratic National Committee – despite Ellison’s very real links to Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood, two groups that are outdone by no one in anti-Semitism.

Donald Trump’s granddaughter a viral sensation in China
(CNN) — She’s just five years old but might just be Donald Trump’s biggest diplomatic win in China.
A video of Trump’s granddaughter Arabella Kushner reciting Chinese poetry is being shared across the country.
During his bid for the US presidency, Trump had nothing but tough talk for Beijing.
But the little girl’s command of Mandarin is being interpreted by some as a hidden sign of Trump’s affinity with the country.
In the video, Arabella is wearing a red Chinese style ball gown standing on a table. Other traditional Chinese elements — the Chinese character for happiness, lanterns and Monkey stickers — are visible in the background.

Election results give momentum to worker freedom
Does a Trump presidency mean public employees across the country will be freed from being forced to pay government unions against their will?
If Trump nominates one of the roughly two dozen people he pledged to consider to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia, it’s likely public employees nationwide would earn freedom from being forced to support politics they disagree with.

To Democrats’ Dismay, Trump Will Inherit Obama’s Expanded Presidential Powers
With a new president much loathed by the mainstream media and progressive elites, it shouldn’t be very long until we start hearing about the dangers of the “imperial presidency.” Where were they, we wonder, during the Obama years?
It’s quite an irony that the one whom many on the left said they couldn’t stomach as president should become president and inherit a whole panoply of new presidential powers that President Obama used and no one other than conservatives objected to. Because now, a President Trump can use the same powers.

Why Did Trump Win? Obama
e7zv9zkDonald Trump’s upset victory is being attributed to many factors, from Hillary Clinton being a corrupt and flawed candidate to the rise of the angry white male. Never mind that Trump secured more white women support than did Clinton. Maybe it was due to the FBI investigations and Director Comey’s schizophrenic opening and closing the investigations.
What really gave Trump his victory is one person: Barack Obama. This election was nothing less than a complete and total repudiation of his presidency, his policies, his “fundamental transformation of America” that he promised and delivered.
