On its web site this week, Target announced, “[W]e welcome transgender team members and guests to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity. … Everyone deserves to feel like they belong.”
This means a man can simply say he “feels like a woman today” and enter the women’s restroom, including men who are actually sexual predators.
If you agree with me that Target’s policy is unacceptable, sign this petition.
This is not a made up concern designed to cover some alleged prejudice against transgenders. I grew up in one of the most liberal towns in the country. I DON’T CARE if a man wants to dress as a woman or vice versa. At https://www.afa.net/action-alerts/sign-the-boycott-target-pledge/, there is a list of links to real news stories about cross-dressing men abusing women in public bathrooms.
I DO CARE about people with special needs having access to comfortable and safe public restrooms. I would cheer Target or any other entity that installed single occupancy bathrooms. It’s the obvious solution to many potty issues.
Our local mall installed one way back when my girls were little. It was spacious enough for any handicapped person and attendant(s). I had no trouble with my double stroller and I appreciated the toilet without walls that made it easy for me to help my newly trained toddlers perch on the seat. And when the girls shopped with just their dad, he could either choose to come in and help or else stand guard outside.
While I was making the graphic, it occurred to me that this facility would be a welcome relief to shy urinaters and also to child care workers shepherding multiple children. I expect there are lots of other people with special needs who would benefit.
