Noah’s Ark and the Great Flood

CAT Noah called

I was considering purchasing a certain Catholic Bible commentary when I read one scathing Amazon reviewer saying it contained the “heretical” position that the flood might not have been global.

I was not aware that my church had taught definitively about the scope of the flood.  My quick google search suggests I was right and Mr. One Star Heresy was wrong.

I searched the Catechism for “Noah” and “Flood” and found about 10 statements that talked about the flood as if it was a real event.  However, none of them spoke to the issue of scope.

I also searched the EWTN site, whose archives have a wealth of good stuff about Catholic teaching and practice.  I think this bit by Father Echert explains clearly what I was taught by Father Bob:

As to whether or not we must affirm that the flood encompassed the entire orb of the earth, the text would seem to teach this and subsequent texts would tend to corroborate this, but there is some flexibility with regards to the first eleven chapters of the Book of Genesis, as expressed in the encyclical “Humani Generis” of Pope Pius XII:

“..the first eleven chapters of Genesis…nevertheless come under the heading of history; in what exact sense, it is for the further study of the exegete to determine. These chapters have a naïve, symbolic way of speaking, well suited to the understanding of primitive people. But they do disclose to us certain important truths, upon which the attainment of our eternal salvation depends, and they do also give a popular description of the origin of the human race and of the chosen people.”

Personally, I’ve never had any problem with the fact that the flood author’s “world” was quite small in relation to the entire Earth.  A really ginormous flood that covered every bit of land he had any reason to know about would fit the bill.

But I also have no problem with accepting scientific evidence that the flood covered the whole world in the way that we moderns with satellite imagery etc. understand “whole world” … should that evidence become available.

Similarly, I had no particular opinion about the meaning of day in the creation story.  I was taught that the divinely inspired truth in the story is that God created everything and said it was all good.  According to Father Bob, the author could have used the “days” thing as a literary device without harming the salvation truth of the story.

The main thing the Catholic Church teaches is that God’s truth and science cannot ever truly be in conflict, because God is Truth.

Maybe this is why I never could swallow the Young Earth interpretation of the story that insists “day” has to mean our 24-hour solar cycle.  There is just way too much scientific evidence that the planet is very old and the universe is far older.

Plus, the idea that God faked that evidence of age repels me.  I was far more comfortable with “I don’t know what day means” than with “God lied about the dinosaurs.”

However, since I watched “The Genesis Code” (DVD) — and later read the book the code part is based on — I’ve come to believe that the days are indeed miraculously literal, albeit not in the Young Earth 24-hour way.  I can’t explain it properly, so go watch the movie.  It will uplift and inspire you enormously!

As for that Bible commentary, I would’ve ordered it except it was more than $100.  If any of you Catholics know of a good one that is affordable AND orthodox, I’d love to know about it.

Liar, Liar, Hijab on Fire

Most of you don’t bother watching the Sunday talkfests. That’s understandable. The media gave up any pretense of equal treatment long ago and it doesn’t really matter anymore. Democrats know they can go on almost any show and the panel will be three liberals against a moderate democrat. That’s their idea of a fair discussion.

After 7 1/2 years of dodging, degrading, and totally insulting them, Barack Hussein Obama finally agreed to go on Fox News for an interview with Chris Wallace since he knows he can tell the most outrageous lies and nobody can do a thing about it. I never watch these shows either, since my gag reflex is not that strong. His behavior yesterday was so over the top, there’s a lot of clips which I feel obligated to post here. You can check any of it out… or not. It’s never been a free country, but we still have a few choices…. for now.

Obama: Hillary Didn’t “Intentionally” Put America In Jeopardy; I Guarantee No Political Influence In Server Probe…
President Obama is quizzed about the investigation by the FBI Justice Department into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s private server and non-government e-mail address by FOX News’ Chris Wallace on this week’s edition of FOX News Sunday. In the interview, Wallace confronted Obama if he can still say flatly that Clinton did not jeopardize America’s secrets. Obama also guaranteed politics will not influence the outcome of the investigation.

Obama contended she did not jeopardize America’s national security, however was “careless” in terms of managing e-mails that she has owned. Obama said the scandal needs to be put in “perspective” as Clinton “served her country” and did an outstanding job.

Obama takes no responsibility for angry voters: ‘Republicans have their own TV stations’
THE CLASSLESS PRICK GOES ON FOX TO INTENTIONALLY SPIT IN THEIR FACES

Sitting down for his first interview on “Fox News Sunday” in eight years, President Barack Obama was not hesitant to get a dig in against the network, insisting “Republicans have their own TV stations.”

It would not be much of a stretch to say Obama was hanging the candidacy of Donald Trump around the neck of Fox News.

“And I think the danger both among Republicans and among Democrats who just listen to each other or they just listen to people that already agree with them,” Obama said. “You know, Republicans have their own TV station.”

“Go ahead,” Wallace quipped. “You can say Fox News.”

“They’ve got their own publications, their own blogs,” the president continued. “Democrats, same thing. Increasingly what happens is, we don’t hear each other. And so what happens then is when Republicans promise to repeal Obamacare and it doesn’t get repealed, they’re outraged.”

Obama: Of course I’d never interfere with a DoJ investigation of Clinton’s emails
President Obama repeatedly vowed there would be no political influence over the Justice Department’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while secretary of state — in a wide-ranging interview with “Fox News Sunday” in which he also ardently defended his efforts to defeat the Islamic State and other terror groups amid criticism about his perceived indifference.

“I guarantee that there is no political influence in any investigation conducted by the Justice Department, or the FBI, not just in this case, but in any case,” Obama told “Fox News Sunday.” “Nobody is above the law. How many times do I have to say it?”

Obama on Fox: Hillary Has Owned Up to Her Email ‘Carelessness’
KNOWINGLY BREAKING THE LAW AND COMPROMISING NATIONAL SECURITY IS SIMPLY “CARELESSNESS” WHEN YOU’RE A CLINTON

After 360 requests from Chris Wallace, President Obama finally agreed to appear on “Fox News Sunday.” The last time President Obama was on Fox News, it was Super Bowl 2014 and he was sitting down with Bill O’Reilly, the topics of discussion being Obamacare, Benghazi and the brewing IRS scandal.
In another exchange over those controversial emails, Obama insisted Clinton was an “outstanding secretary of state” who would “never intentionally put America in any kind of jeopardy.”
Note the use of the word “intentionally.”

When he wasn’t talking about Hillary Clinton, Obama was defending his decision to stay in Cuba after the deadly terror attacks in Brussels. His choice, he said, gave the terrorists a “message of resilience.”

Obama: ‘Not to brag, but I have transformed federal courts from a diversity standpoint’

Speaking at the University of Chicago Law School on Thursday, President Barack Obama was asked by an audience member how his nomination of Judge Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court would bring “diverse characteristics” to that court.

In answering, Obama argued: “I have transformed the federal courts from a diversity standpoint with a record that’s been unmatched.”

He also said: “But at no point did I say: Oh, you know what, I need a black lesbian from Skokie in that slot. Can you find me one?”
BEING PRESIDENT IS A REAL HOOT WHEN YOU CAN’T BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING

‘You can kill SOME of us, but we will get you’ – Obama says he’s the best Prez ever on terrorism

President Obama encouraged terrorists by telling them they can definitely kill more Americans.
THAT’S A PRETTY GUTLESS BRAG CONSIDERING HE’LL BE PROTECTED BY HEAVILY-ARMED SECRET SERVICE FOR THE REMAINDER OF HIS MISERABLE LIFE

Matt Lauer To Hillary Clinton: Do You Think The FBI And DOJ Will Say, “This Was a Misunderstanding, We’re Sorry, Carry On”
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES.AND THERE’S NOT A DAMN THING WE CAN DO TO STOP IT.

Clinton grilled by Matt Lauer over the email scandal on the NBC Today Show. Hillary repeats the line that she knows is false, that the FBI is just conducting a ‘security review’

She dismisses it completely once again…

SORRY THIS POST ISN’T STYLISH OR CLASSY. IT IS WHAT IT IS.
