#FERGUSON DOORBUSTER SALE! 100% off!

My apologies for the late post. I was searching Craigslist for good deals on flat screen TVs and smartphones from the St. Louis area.

If you just got back to the states after 6 months in Borneo studying the endangered Orangutan, you may not have heard that the grand jury did not find the evidence to charge Ofc. Darren Wilson in the permanent neutering of a large mountain gorilla. The decision had been anticipated for weeks and all the usual suspects were primed to get their holiday shopping done.

I watched part of the carnage on Fox News when one reporter showed a young, shirtless primate using a baseball bat to smash the window of a McDonald’s before somebody yelled to hit the Ferguson Meat and Liquor store. He ran off,bat in hand,in high hopes to get some steaks for his mama and some liquor for himself. A CNN reporter was hit in the head with a rock, Mike Tobin from Fox had a tear gas grenade go off next to him, and a thug smashed a Fox News camera worth more than the asshole’s last two cars.

All this time I’m thinking: where’s the National Guard and the armored vehicles? Turns out the mayor of St. Louis begged for them, but Eric Holder told Gov. Nixon not to allow them in. He’d rather see buildings burn and property destroyed because it suits their racist cause. The police were not allowed to do much except fire some tear gas and let the rabble loot to their hearts’ content. Firemen called in to fight the fires that blazed all over were summarily shot at. I have a few things I bookmarked this morning but by now they’re probably not relevant any longer.

A horde of “protesters” broke into the Auto Zone store and, since everything there related to actual work, nothing was taken. They just trashed the place then set it afire as ‘justice for St. Swisher.’

Isn’t it time we ended jus soli?

Obama says we should be more like other countries, right? Well … only FIFTEEN PERCENT of the nations in the world grant citizenship just for being born within the borders! It is understandable that the wide open territories of the Americas would have had this rule, but we’re not there any more, are we? No nation in Europe allows jus soli. Why should we?

“Jus soli (Latin: right of the soil) is the right of anyone born in the territory of a state to nationality or citizenship. As an unconditional basis for citizenship, it is the predominant rule in the Americas, but is rare elsewhere. … A study in 2010 found that only 30 of the world’s 194 countries grant citizenship at birth to the children of undocumented foreign residents.”

My first taste of kombucha was ….. WOW!

All of a week ago, I told my fermenty friends that kombucha sounded horrible, which just goes to show you shouldn’t knock it ’til you’ve tried it!

I can’t believe fermented tea (even worse, it’s sometimes called “mushroom tea” EWWWWWW) could be SO SCRUMPDILLYICIOUS!! It’s amazing (and it is NOT made with mushrooms).

There’s no tea flavor and the natural fizz is fun on the tongue. Natural fizz is like champagne … tiny bubbles, not the fat ones that artificial carbonation produces. “Booch” not only tasted great to me, but my grumpy gut started to feel better. It has a long ways to go before it’s healthy, but I slept better last night so YAHOO!

Then, weirdness of all weirdnesses, this morning when I went to make my first cup of coffee, it smelled HORRIBLE to me.

Usually, nothing smells as wonderful as that first morning waft of coffee aroma coming out of the can. I can’t remember the last time I didn’t have my cuppa first thing, but I was probably vomiting or feverish or something. Anyway, I opted for a delicious breakfast of goat kefir, apple smash and toast. Then, I brought a small glass of booch to my desk. I’m curious to see if I get a caffeine withdrawal headache and/or develop a craving for coffee later on in the day.

D and I have made up two batches of fermenting vegetables and are eager to taste them next week.  I have ordered materials to start brewing kombucha too. At $3.50 a bottle, it’s cheaper (and healthier) than Starbucks, has fewer calories (and is healthier) than soda pop, but home brew will cost pennies, so yeah, I’m going to become one of “those” people.

I’m buying my supplies @ http://www.culturedfoodlife.com/. Donna’s “Trilogy” DVD is well worth the price. It’s a good introduction to the hows and whys of fermented kefir, kombucha and vegetables. She knows a lot and is very enthusiastic and easy to listen to, but most importantly for me was that she shows from her own kitchen how EASY these foods are to prepare on a regular basis.
