  1. FACT: The last budget by GOP House, GOP Senate & GOP President (passed in 2006 for FY 2007) had a deficit less than $161 Billion, which represented 1.1% of GDP.

FACT: Then-Senator Obama was part of the Democrat majority which nearly tripled deficit FY 2008 spending to 3.1% of GDP.

FACT: Obama was involved both as Senator and President in the Democrat majority which more than tripled FY 2009 deficit spending to 9.8% of GDP!

FACT: The FY 2009 budget was passed by the Nancy Pelosi House, the Harry Reid Senate, & signed by Barack Obama, and had a deficit was 9.8% of GDP!

FACT: The FY 1947 – FY 2007 average annual deficit was 1.6% of GDP.

FACT: The FY 1996 – FY 2007 GOP majority average annual deficit was 0.8% of GDP. (HALF the size of the average annual deficits post-WWII)

FACT: The FY 2008 – FY 2014 DEM majority average annual deficit has been 6.4% of GDP! (FOUR TIMES the size of the average annual deficits post-WWII)

(Then-Senator) Barack Obama and his Democrat colleagues in Congress inherited from the outgoing GOP majority an annual budget deficit of 1.1% of GDP.

(Then-Senator) Barack Obama and his Democrat colleagues in Congress played a very direct part in nearly tripling the annual deficit in FY 2008 (to 3.1% of GDP), and then more than tripling it again in FY 2009 (to 9.8% of GDP), and then claiming that cutting that down to 3.7% of GDP (FY 2014 estimate and still MORE THAN DOUBLE the average deficit size of 1947 to 2007 and MORE THAN THREE TIMES the size of the deficit they inherited from the outgoing GOP majority in FY 2007) is supposed to be some huge accomplishment.

    • They lie about it really well, though. 😉

      • The biggest lie is that while Democrats are responsible for the biggest increase in deficit spending since WWII, they claim that they are responsible for the biggest decrease in deficit spending since WWII!

The key to their lie is falsely blaming George W. Bush for the FY 2009 deficit.

All FY 2009 spending was passed by the Nancy Pelosi house and Harry Reid Senate, and the majority of it was signed by Obama, not Bush!

Awesome comments, but I’m confused about one thing: since all spending must originate in the House, which Republicans have controlled since Jan 2013, aren’t they responsible for our current deficits?

          • “Jane Dough”,

As I’m sure you are aware, bills are not passed by single house of Congress.

They must be passed by the House, Senate, and either signed by the President, or a Presidential veto overridden with 2/3 votes of both the House & Senate.

The Republican House has been trying for years to get the Democrat Senate to do their Constitutional duty and pass a budget. The Republican House has done their part, the Democrat Senate has not.
