God is Truth

My Bible reading this morning was Proverbs 6: 16-19 –

“There are six things the LORD hates, yes, seven are an abomination to him; haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that plots wicked schemes, feet that are quick to run to evil, the false witness who utters lies, and the one who sows discord among kindred.”

I thought the six and seven very interesting. Six is Satan’s number. Seven is God’s number. You’ll notice there are seven items on the list, but that LYING is listed TWICE. Satan is known as the Prince of Lies for a reason.

  1. Love it, Chrissy. Can’t be emphasized enough. Technically, lies are mentioned twice, but you could make a case for 4 of those things to be directly related to lying. There’s a reason why perjury, by itself, is punishable. Or used to be.

Lies twice … I was thinking more in terms of there being both six and seven items, as per the intro line.

  2. “What is truth?” (John 18:38)

    I am … the truth” (John 14:6)

And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:32)
