I had been planning this shot for about two weeks before Tuesday morning’s lunar eclipse.
With every lunar eclipse that occurs, my social media feeds blow up with tight shots of the moon, which are great for detail, but I’ve always felt they lacked “life.” With that said, I knew that I wanted to create a composition that not only showed the amazing eclipse, but tied in an incredible foreground as well. I mean, why not include the Earth? We are kind of the reason for the lunar eclipse, right?
With the spring wildflowers popping up around the area, I really narrowed down a search for a large bluebonnet field. I loved the idea of a big blue field contrasting with the red moon. After some tips via Facebook, I found a field in Ennis, Texas that would be perfect for my composition. It faced south, was far enough from the Dallas city lights that light pollution wouldn’t be an issue, and it was just full of acres of bluebonnets.
I set out around 11 p.m. with fellow photographer friend James Langford and then spent the next seven hours shooting the moon transitions.
I shot the field image with my Nikon D800 and a 24-70mm lens, then the moon with a Nikon 70-200mm lens. I made sure to shoot the transitions every 10 minutes to make sure that I would have a complete transition to use. Once the eclipse was over, I then combined all the phases with the landscape image to create the final composition.
April 20, 2014: Dearest said my graphic was confusing, so I did a better version. Same info, just presented more clearly.
Given the untruths that Obama has been FORCED to admit to in the past two years, that number should be a lot higher. If the Teflon Brown Prezzer were being treated by the MSM the way Dubya was treated, that number would be a whole lot higher. But then, he would also have been brought up on charges a long time ago as well. It’s grand to be brown in 21st century America, idn’t it?
The Gospels don’t come right out and say exactly where along the Jordan River Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, but there are clues. Based on Matthew 3, Mark 1 and Luke 3 and 4, it was near Jerusalem and the Judean desert, which puts it near the north end of the Dead Sea.
John 1:28 says John the Baptist was baptizing at “Bethany across the Jordan.”
I noticed a lot of Jewish places are named Beth-something, so I googled it.

As we are on the eve of the time Christians celebrate the crucifixion and resurrection of our Lord,Jesus Christ,I’d like to share a couple anecdotes from H.L. Mencken.
A church is a place where gentlemen who have never been to Heaven brag about it to persons who will never get there.
A Sunday School is a prison where children do penance for the evil conscience of their parents.
God will never look you over for medals, degrees,or diplomas, but for scars….Elbert Hubbard
“Activists “(terrorists) from U Minn. are demanding campus police arrest Condoleeza Rice when she appears on campus.
These vile posters are plastered all over (I have a link to the story).
There is a link today about more range wars coming in the West. This is a map of government-owned land….this is appalling.
C’mon,Grunt…I haven’t posted one all week
OK, howzabout Slow Joe as one of the Three Stooges??
I just watched an episode of SeaQuest made in 1993 in which a character gripes about the faux meat patty on his meal tray. A character “reminds” him that growing cows was out-lawed because the methane from their flatulence was damaging the ozone.
I remember the 70s when “OMG the ozone!” was the big environmental bugaboo. Except, oopsie, that darned old ozone went and got all better. Ditto the impending ice age scare.
Soooooooo enter Al Gore-acle and “OMG global warming” blah blah blah that nobody with any functioning brain cells still believes in. So naturally, Obama recently announced the EPA was going to CRACK DOWN on cow farts because “methane is driving global warming.”
I’m seeing a common theme here and it’s got nothing at all to do with “saving” the planet and everything to do with using whatever Leftie issue is hot to advance the PETA-vegan agenda.
“The Spirit explicitly says that in the last times some will … require abstinence from foods that God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected when received with thanksgiving.” 1 Timothy 4:1-4
