So PROUD of their stance, they’ll BULLY you for advertising it

During the last two weeks, the LifeNews website has brought international attention to the link between the Girl Scouts and its support for Pro-Abortion groups and individuals and to the national boycott of Girl Scouts cookies sponsored by Pro-Life groups.

The other day, Brian Crawford, an executive with Girl Scouts USA, wrote a nasty letter to LifeNews demanding they stop lying and stating a date by which LifeNews must guarantee the Girl Scouts it “will comply with our demand.”

(Brian? GSUSA has guys at the helm? I thought this group was all about promoting FEMALE leadership. Whatev. Read more about what Brian does for GSUSA below.)

Typical liberal, right? So proud of their Progressive position that when someone points it out to the sheeple, their natural response is to kill the messenger.

GS curriculum Pro Abort not Pro Life

BUT the links between the Girl Scouts and abortion advocacy are many and long-standing.

  • At the international level, World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) frequently works alongside International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) to advocate for abortion on demand for youth.
  • At the national level, Girls Scouts USA (GSUSA) is one of 40 organizations in the Coalition for Adolescent Girls which specifically advocates for abortion. GSUSA also generously funds WAGGGS with $1.5 million annually.
  • At the local and state level, Girl Scout groups refer girls to abortion providers and help to promote and fund abortion providers and abortion rights advocacy groups.
  • The official Girl Scout curriculum holds up abortion rights activists as role models for girls. E.g., Margaret Sanger, Gloria Steinem, Betty Friedan, Geraldine Ferraro.
  • The Girl Scout curriculum recommends many Pro-Abortion organizations, but not a single Pro-life organization. The curriculum also includes sex education materials like “Healthy, Happy and Hot” which includes statements such as: “Some people have sex when they have been drinking or using drugs. That is your choice.” and “There is no right or wrong way to have sex. Just have fun, explore and be yourself!”
  • Local GS councils have specific partnership programs with Planned Parenthood and other abortion advocacy groups. E.g., Girl Scouts of Western New York (GSWNY) partners with Planned Parenthood in its “Sister to Sister” project.
  • Local GS councils award and honor Pro-Abortion politicians and abortion rights advocates. E.g., Wendy Davis is a Texas Woman of Distinction and one of the women GSUSA helped promote for 2013 Women of the Year.
  • The new national GS spokeswoman is the former spokeswoman for a Pro-Abortion organization.

ABOUT THE COOKIES

Cookie sales are a MAJOR source of income for GSUSA, which makes millions of dollars each year through licensing fees paid by the company that bakes Girl Scout cookies. The baker, of course, builds that cost into the wholesale price of the cookies the girls buy to sell door-to-door.

Cookie sales are the MAIN source of income for the 315 Girl Scout councils in the United States. In a national survey, seventeen councils reported they did have a relationship with Planned Parenthood and its affiliates, while 49 reported they did not have such a relationship. The other 249 refused to disclose one way or the other.

Cookies sales are likely the ONLY source of income for the troops of the girls who go door-to-door selling. They get to keep about 15%. Maybe it would be more to the point to offer to help fund a local troop activity directly. It would certainly involve fewer calories.

Brian Crawford’s JOB at GSUSA is to watchdog “Trademarks and Licensing” for the Girl Scouts of America. Besides writing very firm letters to web sites that expose the Girl Scouts’ connection to the Progressive’s Sluts and Abortion agenda, he also scours eBay and other sites for any sniff of anybody selling or reselling anything Girl Scout without his permission. I’m thinking this means, “Without giving GSUSA their cut.” Among other things, he’s earned his keep for GSUSA by preventing the willy nilly selling of cookies on YouTube by actual Girl Scouts, as well as forced eBay to ban all selling of unopened cookies and/or ANY type of genuine GS memorabilia. Nice, Brian. Real nice.

  1. I cannot tell you how it pains me to see the depths to which GS has sunk. . . it used to be such a respectable organization . . .

  2. This is so sad. As if young girls these days aren’t already being bombarded with perverse and often diabolical messages already…

*sigh* My sisters and I were in the Girl Scouts, we had such fun and learned so much. In the late 80s through the mid-90s, after a several years of being a troop leader, my mother got a job at a Girl Scout Council. She worked up from receptionist to eventually becoming a program facilitator, which meant that she had to create and teach most of the art & science programs for all the age groups. She loved her job, but once a new program director, who was a very shady individual, was hired, my mom was let go. I have no idea if she knows what kind of organization the GS has become; I bet she wouldn’t be too surprised.

(I collect old books and have a Girl Scout handbook from the early 20s. I bet very few modern-day Girl Scouts would know how to do anything in that book.)

    • freedom– I do have a couple of old, old Girl Scout Handbooks– full of solid, practical skills!

When they got rid of the badges for the older girls, that really turned me off. They had some “charm” frogram or something. I’d suspected something was awry when they got rid of the Native American Heritage (or called something like that) badge because it was suddenly deemed “racist”. Gone was things like sewing, cooking, budgeting, trail signs, camping skills. . . . *tch*

      Really, really heartbreaking,

Sad. I really liked Samoas, but I don’t like them enough to buy them anymore. I had to walk past some scouts selling cookies downtown today, and told their mom I’d love to buy cookies again when they stop promoting a leftist agenda. Hard to say no to those little girls’ sweet little faces, but it has to be done.
