PETE’S PAGE; FRIDAY FUNHOUSE

Posted by Pistol Pete

What a glorious couple of days! DW and I hit the outlet mall yesterday a few minutes after they opened and had the entire place to ourselves. Met our best friends for lunch when we got back to town,then they came over to help decorate the tree and the rest of the house. (Actually,the women did it. My fishing buddy and I watched fishing shows in the man-cave.) Played Yahtzee and ordered pizza out. Ran errands all this morning and the love of my life went into serious shopping mode with her BFF while I took a much-needed nap. Then I fired up the Univac and found not much had changed in the last couple days. Didn’t really figure it would. Well,I can catch up on the outrages over the weekend. Let’s just enjoy this life for what it grants us and give all praise to He who created all things.

Mother Teresa spoke for God. Belgium is standing up tall for Satan.

An incredible story about Mother Teresa [4:05]

December 12, 2013: The Belgian Senate voted 50-17 today IN FAVOR of a bill that would allow EUTHANASIA FOR CHILDREN. The bill now goes to the House of Representatives for final approval before being sent to the King to be signed into law.

Most political observers are predicting the passage of the bill.

In 2002, Belgium legalized euthanasia on request for those 18 and over. Since then, the number of deaths by euthanasia has sky-rocketed and people in hospitals are increasingly being killed without their consent or the consent of their families.

Studies have demonstrated that:

  • 32% of euthanasia deaths in the Flemish region of Belgium had been done without an explicit request;
  • 45% of euthanasia deaths involving nurses in Belgium were without a specific request;
  • 47.2% of euthanasia deaths in Belgium were not officially reported (which is required by the law);
  • and elderly Belgians are becoming increasingly afraid of being hospitalized.

Is your faith a Costume or a Uniform?

I got this wonderful meditation in my “Our Daily Bread” daily email. Being a Military Mom, I totally get this.

Salvation is free, but discipleship will cost you your life.

—Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Costume or uniform

Meditation by David McCasland

Eunice McGarrahan gave an inspiring talk on Christian discipleship in which she said,

“A costume is something you put on and pretend that you are what you are wearing. A uniform, on the other hand, reminds you that you are, in fact, what you wear.”

Her comment sparked memories of my first day in US Army basic training when we were each given a box and ordered to put all our civilian clothes in it. The box was mailed to our home address. Every day after that, the uniform we put on reminded us that we had entered a period of disciplined training designed to change our attitudes and actions.

“Cast off the works of darkness,” the apostle Paul told the followers of Jesus living in Rome, “and . . . put on the armor of light” (Rom. 13:12).

He followed this with the command to:

Put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts” (v.14).

The goal of this “casting off” and “putting on” was a new identity and transformed living (v.13). When we choose to follow Christ as our Lord, He begins the process of making us more like Him each day.

It is not a matter of pretending to be what we aren’t but of becoming more and more what we are in Christ.
