PETE’S PAGE; MONDAY EDITION

Posted by Pistol Pete

First off, prayers up for all of our friends who are suffering through this terrible storm. Where we live was spared pretty much, only about 4″ of snow between yesterday and overnight. Hopefully you’ll feel a little better after your visit here.

Got a few political posts, but I’d rather concentrate on things not necessarily in the headlines.

THE OBAMAS HOSTED A PARTY FOR THE KENNEDY CENTER HONOREES LAST NIGHT,INCLUDING BILLY JOEL,CARLOS SANTANA AND HERBIE HANCOCK. SURE BEATS WORKIN’ DON’T IT?

BTW,THESE DEVOUT MUSLIMS ARE GETTING BY WITH ONLY 24 CHRISTMAS TREES AT THE SPITE HOUSE THIS YEAR. PRETTY GOOD,SINCE THEY WON’T EVEN BE THERE.

Nothing like rubbing it in peoples’ faces.

BARRY VISITED THE USS ARIZONA MEMORIAL. PRETENDS HE GIVES A SHIT. SIGN IN THE BACKGROUND BARELY READABLE WITH HIM IN THE FOREGROUND. IT ALWAYS HAS TO BE ABOUT HIM. ALWAYS.

Added by CtH – Cesar Millan says, “Walking in front of your dog allows you to be seen as the pack leader. Conversely, if your dog controls you on the walk, he’s the pack leader. You should be the first one out the door and the first one in. Your dog should be beside or behind you during the walk.” http://www.cesarsway.com/training/thewalk/6-Tips-for-Mastering-the-Dog-Walk

A Tribute to Soldiers and the Soldier’s Creed

Posted at a quilting board: “My DS called me the day before Thanksgiving and said “Mom, what would you say if someone asked you to make a quilt in two weeks?” I believe the look on my face was the only answer he needed but he went on to explain it was for his unit and would benefit local soldiers and since I have two sons in that unit, how could I refuse and I didn’t. He showed me a picture of the quilt he wanted and I drafted a pattern and called on my cousin for help. It has the Soldiers Creed embroidered on the white strips and I can’t even recite it now without choking up…In 6 days, we completed the quilt and I delivered it to the armory this morning. This is the most meaningful quilt I have ever made and I’d do it again in a heartbeat…but not while working and most definitely NOT in 6 days!”

Soldier’s Creed

I am an American Soldier.

I am a warrior and a member of a team.

I serve the people of the United States, and live the Army Values.

I will always place the mission first.

I will never accept defeat.

I will never quit.

I will never leave a fallen comrade.

I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough, trained and proficient in my warrior tasks and drills.

I always maintain my arms, my equipment and myself.

I am an expert and I am a professional.

I stand ready to deploy, engage, and destroy, the enemies of the United States of America in close combat.

I am a guardian of freedom and the American way of life.

I am an American Soldier.

Why am I here?

When I was little, my mom taught me a little from the old Baltimore Catechism.

1. Who made us?

A. God made us.

2. Who is God?

A. God is the Supreme Being, infinitely perfect, who made all things and keeps them in existence.

3. Why did God make us?

A. God made us to show forth His goodness and to share with us His everlasting happiness in heaven.

4. What must we do to gain the happiness of heaven?

A. To gain the happiness of heaven we must know, love, and serve God in this world.

The newer Catholic Catechism gives a much wordier answer. But to be honest … I’m kinda sorry the RCC stopped using the old Baltimore Catechism.

There’s a lot to be said for memorizing simple things that have profound meaning.

I’m still chewing over those first four things 5 decades later and am still nowhere near to really understanding all the glory, joy and wonder in them.

As for choosing an over-arching guideline for my entire life, I’ve never found anything better than this:
