THE THURSDAY GRUDGE

Posted by Pistol Pete

First off, prayers for you and yours,Hoot.I have been without a job twice in the last two years.GP knew me when after 8 months of finding no work and feeling lower than a snake’s belly in a wagon rut I teetered dangerously close to the edge of the precipice. Both times Almighty God saw fit to have mercy on a pitiful sinner,as undeserving as I am.God promised us he would never give us more of a burden than we could bear.I have questioned his judgement many, many times.

One of granny’s favorite lines was always, ‘God loves those who help themselves.’ Be strong and have faith in Him.You have many friends here, and we all support you and yours and are willing to do what we can for you.It sounds cliched, but things will get better.I promise.

CALL ME A DERANGED CONSPIRACY THEORIST,BUT CONSIDER:
It looks like the 9/11 attacks were co-ordinated,not a reaction to a stupid movie. What if this was staged to help their brother,Hussein, get re-elected?They know if he gets four more years they’re in like Flynn. The mob chanted,’Obama,we are all Osama.” Guess they didn’t care for him waving Bin laden’s carcass like a trophy. There are two US destroyers armed with Tomahawk missiles heading for the coast of Libya.Don’t put it past him to pull a Klintoon and touch a few missiles off to blow up some sand and maybe an erstwhile camel. The lapdog media could scream from the rooftops about WE CAN’T CHANGE PRESIDENTS IN THE MIDDLE OF A WAR!! We all know he will stop at nothing to keep the throne.Being remorseless, soulless and corrupt to his core just gives him more options.Maybe it’s all a fig newton of my imagination.

Have I mentioned here the word I got from a female in the know that at the exact same time this evil administration was shoving free birth control down our throats (in the name of Women’s Health Care Is SOOOO Important), they were CUTTING gyn checkups for active duty soldiers. The ladies are required to have an annual exam to stay active, but now they get to pay for it out of their own pockets.

    • With a “40 hour work week,” my sons, both employed by major corporations, only work — oh, gee! — look at that — 39 hours a week. So, lowering the work week to 30hr/wk will mean they’ll be suddenly full-time, right? Suuurrrre. That’s how it works! Of course!

This should not come as a revelation.Obama could curl up in the fetal position, pissing his shorts and the media would still gush how he ‘dominated’ Romney and call him ‘the greatest orator of our time.’ It doesn’t take a Mensa student to figure out the ulterior motives.

Witness the split-brained schizophrenia of the Left that trumpets success for Obama where there is nothing but crushing failure, while simultaneously wailing and moaning about how that eeevil Bush (retired) and that eeevil Republican Congress (where Senate has Democrat majority) and that eeeevil Romney (who holds no office at all) are all keeping Teh Won from Achieving His Goals. I’m thinking … if Republicans are so POWERFUL that they can control the entire U.S. economy from retirement, dominate every legislative act with a minority, and engineer even the actions of foreigners on the other side of the planet while simply running for office … maybe we should put them in office. I’m just saying.

“God promised us he would never give us more of a burden than we could bear.I have questioned his judgement many, many times.”

IKWYM. I like how St Teresa of Avila put it. “I wish he didn’t have such a good opinion of me!” :o)

I learned a valuable lesson about this promise from Corrie ten Boom. Have you read her autobiography The Hiding Place? Fantastic book, chock full of spiritual wisdom learned in circumstances (Nazi death camps) most of us will never face.

Anyway, she told about her diabetic aunt who lived with them. She was terrified of dying, really phobic about it. Then one day, her sugar test solution turned black, which back then, before insulin, was a death sentence.

Corrie said the whole family expected her to go off the deep end with fear, but instead, they saw her calmly use her last 2 weeks to put her affairs in order and peacefully pass away.

The wisdom gleaned was, “God doesn’t give you graces until you need them.”

I thought of this when I was reading Sarah Palin’s anguish at learning her unborn son had Down’s Syndrome. She was so sure she was totally unsuited to be mother to a special needs child. Yet clearly God gave her the graces when she needed them.

The key, I think, is to be open to receiving and then to carefully nurture and use those graces that come. Like that guy in the flood who refused help evacuating from a neighbor in a car, then a guy in a boat, then finally when he was up on the roof and a helicopter came, he refused that too.

He kept yelling at his rescuers, “God is going to save me!” When he got to judgment, he was angry at God for letting him die. God said, “But i sent you a car and then a boat and finally a helicopter. What else do you think I should have done?!”

I see the same attitude with some people with cancer. They feel so sorry for themselves and are so mad at God. That attitude will kill you in the end.
I understand the anger. I was very angry at first too and it took a while to work through it. But my anger was not at God. I just was angry I had to go through the whole thing, But now, almost five years later, I see it all as a blessing. Cancer forced me to assess my health and I have learned to make wiser choices. As a result, I have never felt better in my life. I now thank God this happened to me for so many reasons. Most of all is that I have met so many amazing people whom I would never have met if not for cancer. My life has been so enriched by them and helped me to embrace this whole experience as a blessing.
Sometimes we end up on a road where we never wanted to go. But if we look at it as an opportunity to forge a new path we just may find our destiny.
One of my favorite quotes by Mark Twain:
“The two most important days in your life are the day you were born, and the day you find out why.”

Cancer was the gift that helped me to find my why.

That’s beautiful, GP. I feel the same way about my disability and the failure of my husband’s first two businesses. SO many blessings came out of the ways we each chose to lean on God and find the positive paths through the dark times.

Joni Eareckson-Tada is quadriplegic as a result of a diving accident. She wrote this at her website: “Heaven and Hell are participating in the events in your life. You know that without me having to tell you. You know that because of the loneliness you feel, the pain, the hurt, the heartache, the tears, the pressure, the discouragement, the Monday morning blues. I don’t have to remind you that sometimes Heaven and Hell are participating in the exact same events in your life but what happens, and who gets the glory and who’s motive is brought to fulfillment in your life, is entirely your choice. The grace is God’s but the choice is yours but, oh, what wonderful things happen, when you trust in God and make a choice to go for His plan, to believe in His purpose, to hold on to His motives for your life.”

Great comments today PP. All I have to say is that I am so disgusted with the behavior of this regime and of the press the past few days, I just don’t know how much more of this I can take.
I am very close to posting this on my facebook page:
    “Dear friends and family.
If lieu of all the things that have happened in the past few years, if you are wearing blinders and still believe it is all Bush’s fault, I want nothing else to do with you. I refuse to be friends with anyone any longer who still thinks Barack Hussein Obama has the best interests of the USA at heart. If you refuse to vote for Romney because you think he is too conservative on social issues, you do not like his religion, or you think he has no charisma, then please unfriend me ASAP. I want nothing to do with anyway who continues to support a man who is doing nothing but contribute to the demise of the once great USA.

I totally sympathize with your feelings, GP. But I hope you won’t post that. I nearly cut someone off for similar reasons, but when I prayed, God told me very clearly that HE wanted me in her life. It was 100% obedience, not any warm feelings of friendship that kept me keeping on with her. Lately, I’ve had several opportunities to share with her … and she has listened. She isn’t on board yet, still thinks NPR is fair and balanced, yada yada. But I was in that limbo place for a long time myself, so after the latest rant (mine) that she sat through patiently (gobsmacked, but not angry or defensive), I prayed again and I felt God smile at how far she’s come and … well, at me, cuz I helped.

GP, I think one of the reasons you want to wash your hands of your Obama-loving friends is because of broken TRUST. If they are for the Regime, their first loyalty is to the Regime and will “turn you in” so to speak. When calamity befalls you, like lose your job, they won’t even be able to hide their satisfaction that you got what you deserved because you are a conservative and voted for Bush, which means it is your own darn fault the economy stinks since everything wrong with the country is Bush’s fault. Those left supporting Obama are not blind. They are not uninformed. They are the loyalists who will walk away from family and friends to follow the higher ground of morality and righteous; follow Dear Leader. I have found many of my Dem family members have just stopped calling or visiting or checking in on facebook — This began once I became open and honest as to what I was………..shock……A Conservative Tea Party Constitution Loving Gun Owner! Once they knew who I really was and was not willing to keep quiet, once they finally realized they could not mold me or control me, they walked away.

The Left-Behind Democrats eat their young and they will eat you. You know this; you sense this. You know you are being spied on. There is no trust now that you know WHO THEY ARE. I asked a relative why they were so supportive of someone who calls their loved one a terrorist (me), a Na.zi (me), intolerant (me), hateful (me), evil rich white person (me-well used to be), and a racist WHEN THEY know I am none of those things? They said if I was a Republican and stood for what they stand for I was all those things and it did not matter if my life up to this point proved different.

Hey, Pete, and everyone, thanks for the encouragement. I am not at liberty to talk about the company involved but suffice to say, this time around the media was not notified (or at least not reported) these “permanent layoffs”. At first the headhunters did not believe my husband and thought he was just saying layoff but really got fired because they and no one else had heard about the layoffs. Only after quite a few got in touch with the headhunter and others was their belief.

Once in awhile a wave of panic comes over me but fortunately it passes. We are not ready for this but are expert at bucking up. We are in a weird point in our lives and a part of the age bracket that has been kicked in the gut severely with this usurpation. The only difference is our friends our age (DH almost 61) only have the two of them, whereas we have a couple in college and three younger teens at home. My grandmother told my husband when we were first married and he was troubled, “Don’t worry. It is not going to get better anyways.” It came out different than she meant, which was don’t waste time worrying since Life is always problems. But the way she said it has always made us laugh and it became our motto. Surprisingly, it is not a pessimistic motto.

I should be really whacked out and consumed with worry but………it just isn’t there. (except those little waves once in awhile) Life moves on. Something will happen. Things have a way of working out.

Again, thanks for the encouragement, concern, and prayers. I treasure all three.

    • My husband has been self-employed for a little over twenty years, and there have been many times when there has been no work and no income, so I know what it’s like. He usually gets more depressed than I do, since being out of work makes him feel like a failure, and I know he is not. True story: When I was pregnant with baby #4 he was unemployed for almost the entire nine months, we had no health insurance, and I was going to need a repeat c-section. He was so depressed he could hardly function. Late one night when I couldn’t sleep, I had a little talk with God and mentioned that a miracle would be nice. The next morning in our mailbox there was a very large check from — of all things — my mother’s estate. I was flabbergasted… first because my mother had died many years earlier, and second because I wasn’t aware that she HAD an estate, since my father was still living. A few months later another check of similar size appeared, from the same source. And wouldn’t you know it, right after baby #4 was born, when I could have used a little help around the house, all of a sudden my husband had more work than he knew what to do with. Well, that’s life.
