THE FRIDAY GRUDGE

Posted by Pistol Pete

The city of Hyde Park,Ill.,unveiled a 3 thousand pound monument at the spot where an African socialist first locked lips with a water buffalo he had become enamored with since her manly physique and large biceps brought out his feminine side. The irony is Bain Capital was part of the consortium that bought out Dunkin brands, which owns Dunkin Donuts and the Baskin Robbins where this stone is located in Dec. 2005.You can’t make this stuff up.

I think I just threw up a little bit.

UPDATE from CtH: I like this one way better!

I heard … I think it was Burt Prelutsky? … say once that after Nixon won 49 States, he was at a party (Hollywood types) and some jerk said really loudly, “How the hell did he win? I don’t know a single a**hole who voted for him?” At which point, the speaker said, “So I turned to him and said, Now you do.”

Who is it talks about the liberal bubble … echo chamber? Something like that. It’s so true.

        • I remember hearing people say the same thing after Reagan won in 1980. They were just flabbergasted that he could have won (in a landslide, no less) when they didn’t know a single person who’d voted for him.

Now I think on it, it probably was Reagan that maybe Prelutsky story was about too.

            • No doubt some people said the same thing after Nixon’s 49-state sweep. Liberals do tend to congregate in little enclaves and not associate with folks outside their social stratum. In Hollywood, the media, mainline Protestantism, and academia the vast majority of people are out in left field, and those who aren’t seldom voice their political opinions for fear of losing their jobs.

I just read about a study of the mental health profession in, UK, I think it was. No big surprise … the field is dominated by politically liberal types who, the more liberal they are, the more justified they feel in persecuting their fellows who are suspected of, horrors, being politically conservative. Naturally, conservatives, being not neither as stupid nor as intolerant as liberals, keep their political views to themselves.

“These plans would give seniors on Medicare a much worse deal that members of Congress have,” … Are they kidding? What, we’re supposed to only hear “worse deal than … [we already] have” ?? I’m on Medicare and I KNOW it’s a much worse deal NOW than the gold-plated healthcare coverage CONGRESS gets, apparently into perpetuity. Never mind after Obamacare gets done gutting it.

Speaking of MATH … I got this today in my email:

A clunker that travels 12,000 miles a year getting 15 mpg uses 800 gallons of gas a year.

A new vehicle that travels 12,000 miles a year getting 25 mpg uses 480 gallons of gas a year.

So, the average Cash for Clunkers transaction reduced gasoline consumption by 320 gallons per year.

The government claims 700,000 clunkers have been replaced so that is 224 million gallons saved per year.

That equates to a bit over 5 million barrels of oil.

5 million barrels is about 5 hours worth of US consumption.

More importantly, 5 million barrels of oil at $70 per barrel costs about $350 million dollars.

So, the government paid $3 billion of our tax dollars to save $350 million.

They spent $8.57 for every $1.00 they saved.

I’m pretty sure they will do a much better job with our health care though.

Yet another reason why Clinton made the unemployment rate a nearly meaningless economic indicator: “Unemployment rates can rise in a state even when more jobs are created if more people start looking for work. People who are out of work are counted as unemployed only if they’re looking for a job.”

      Like

      • That’s why I like the Employment-population ratio. It’s very straightforard: current Employment divided by current civilian noninstitutional population age 16+.

It is unaffected by who is, or is not, looking for work, and just sticks to who is employed, divided by who could be employed. And it’s a much more honest number than Obama’s private sector jobs created, which ignores the growth in population, ignores public sector employees (any teacher should be up in arms about that, but most won’t be, because they are mostly O-bots), ignores farm workers, ignores self-employed, etc.
