THE ASH WEDNESDAY GRUDGE

Posted by Pistol Pete

I must confess I enjoyed reading yesterday’s comments as much as I have any in quite a while.
Chrissy and I spend hours researching and posting for you,and we do it out of love.
But the best soloist in the world cannot replicate the fullness of a choir.I know you all appreciate our work, but it is meant to stimulate you to express how you feel.Getting people involved is the only way for our little group to grow.We are surely facing some trying times ahead and we need to support each other to keep our focus on what’s really important.
GP,I could only be your bodyguard if you can come up with bail money.I’m not in physical condition for a confrontation so it’s easier to just shoot somebody.I don’t suffer fools lightly and I don’t intimidate well.

Here’s a good one to add to the blogroll and a great source of videos that will keep us fighting here while our guys are fighting there:

PP-I really appreciate all that you do and the time you take. I can’t even keep up with your links, I can imagine how much time it takes you to find them!
    Thank you so much.
I still need to read them later, just taking a lunch break now.
I wish there was a way to reply for each one. I think this would stir conversation more. Would it be too hard to break them down into smaller groups?
Chrissy-Your graphics are amazing. Do you do this for a living? I would love to have you work on my non profit with me once I get it going. I am hoping I will eventually be able to draw off some of the money that goes to Komen so I can use it to promote wellness and help people defray the costs. Contact me if you want to collaborate.

GP, I am homebound and “seriously disabled.” That’s a legal category … it means I am not confined to bed and am well enough to wash and dress myself. The only worse one is “severely disabled” which is most of the time in bed and needs help with the basics. I’ve been the latter … this is way, way better.

While I am weak and in a lot of pain, I can walk (slowly), talk, see, hear, and use my hands. I spend my time moving from my office chair to my beading table chair to my sewing table chair, doing some upright stuff like putting dishes away or feeding and brushing the dogs, and lying down watching DVDs, reading or yapping on the phone with my kids.

On my good days, when my heart is strong enough, I do some light yoga. On my bad days, I do what I can for as long as I can, then switch to something else. It may take me six weeks to make one necklace, but stuff gets done. I made five quilts for Christmas! They were small ones, but still. I’m pretty darned proud!

Writing and doing graphics for PN and having friends here who call me by name means the world to me. You challenge and inspire me. You give me a forum for doing something useful that I’m passionate about and good at. And you remind me I’m a human being, not just an expensive bump on the couch.

Re: graphics. I have a standing offer to my peeps here, any time you need a graphic, just ask. If you’re getting paid for the related work, then you can pass on some of it to me. But if it is a non-profit job, I’ll do it for free.

Exceptions: I won’t do a job if I can’t in good conscience support the cause (but why would you be coming here if you were doing something I’d hate?) or if I don’t have the skills to do a good job or I am too sick or too swamped with other stuff to do it on time.

Chrissie-after getting through cancer, I changed everything and have been able to find the kind of health and vitality I never thought possible. I feel better now than I did at 25 and I am almost 60. I started my website so that I could help others find all the information I had to hunt for about how holistic options can make a huge difference. My web partner is moving and so I need someone who can help with some of the technical stuff. It would be great if you could help me out, and I could possibly help you too to get your health back. If you want to send me an email, I will send you my phone number and we can talk about it.
My website is not profit orientated at all. I pay for it myself because I want to help people. I am bound and determined to spread the message that cancer can be prevented and that alternative treatments are not quackery. They work, and they are cheaper in the long run. Check it out a preventcanswers.org

That video of barry partying made me sick. Wonder how much money he is charging for all those white house galas. I notice he did not even know the words to “Sweet Home Chicago”. He had to give the mike to the musician.
I just hope he never comes back to Chicago. He can go back to Hawaii and loll on the beach like all the other rich druggie bums.
Can’t wait until WE can all sing “A L O H A -E” and top it off with “NA NA NA NA GOODBYE!”

You guys have such a great blog going. I would love to see more responses. I think breaking it up would make it easier to comment. By the time one gets though all the great links, it is hard to reply. I am going to start spreading the word about your blog.
NO I am not a Sox fan, or a cubs fan or a bears fan. . .
I use to be crazy about the Cubs. I went to a lot of games and had all the autographs of the great Ernie and CO team. In about 1968 I went to a game and we had great seats by the bullpen (that was when they cost a whopping 7 bucks). Fergie Jenkins was warming up and we kids went down to ask for his autograph and he told us to fuck off! Well I was mortified. I had never heard that before. That was the last time I ever went to a Cubs game. I never watched them again, and have not been a fan of any pro sports since (except for a year of enjoying the great Walter Payton and co bears).
After all these years, I finally had my day with Mr. Jenkins. About a month ago, I went to the mall and fergie was there asking for 20 bucks for his autograph. Ha! At first I was not going to say anything, but as I was walking out, I decided to let him have it. So I went up to his table and told him how his words had really hurt a little girl and that he really burst my bubble that day and how I never watched the Cubs after that.
He sat there stunned. I felt a little guilty but when I came home and told my husband he laughed so I guess it was okay.
It felt so good to tell him off after all these years. I felt it was a little gift from God that I got that opportunity to vent one of my childhood disappointments. I never go to the mall, so it was really uncanny that I went the day he was there.

It sounds to me like one of those God-incidences. I’ve been in situations like that more than a few times. I bet Jenkins was spiritually ready to hear that chastisement and you were elected to give it to him.

“best soloist in the world cannot replicate the fullness of a choir.”

    Beautiful analogy, Pete!

“Getting people involved is the only way for our little group to grow.”

Speaking of which … our peak hourly hit is 30% higher today than normal. Yowza!

“it’s easier to just shoot somebody.I don’t suffer fools lightly and I don’t intimidate well.”

LOL You remind me of Ann Coulter. She was talking about Gitmo and how much the Left and MSM lie about conditions there. (More than 100 journalists have visited and found NO ABUSE. Anybody ever see this in the news? ::snort::)

Anyway, somebody said something about her going down there and she blurted out, “You don’t want ME down there. I don’t have anywhere near the self-control our military personnel have!”

That’s something I find libs really don’t have a clue about. I’ve told them, “My kids have spent more time learning when NOT to shoot than HOW to shoot.” and they’re so surprised.

    • I agree with Ann on this — I could never develop enough self-restraint to do what our military folks do at places like Gitmo. I still remember that video you posted awhile back, about the cops who pepper-sprayed a bunch of obnoxious law-breaking protesters who refused to vacate the area despite repeated warnings. I watched the whole thing (the pepper spraying didn’t take place until near the very end) and just marveled at how professional and restrained the cops were, despite astonishing levels of aggravation. I could never have lasted as long as they did under those circumstances!

I used to think all the screaming etc that drill instructors do was stupid. Now I realize it’s to teach restraint and weed out those who cannot learn it.
