So why didn’t Sharon Bialek tell anybody this story before NOW?
Are we honestly supposed to believe that, having been let go from her job with the National Restaurant Association, she was groped by the PRESIDENT of that organization and then PASSED UP the chance to use this fact to get a financial settlement or her job back?
Cain’s campaign immediately denied Bialek’s accusation, saying: “All allegations of harassment against Mr. Cain are completely false. Mr. Cain has never harassed anyone.”
Penny Nance, who leads the group Concerned Women For America, said, “In my dealings with Mr. Cain, he has always been a gentleman.”
So is Cain a creep or is Bialek lying? When faced with a classic “He said, She said” scenario, we have to look at the bigger picture. Here are a few things that jump out.
Bialek’s advocates claimed she’s “of the same political persuasion as Herman Cain.” (Google “Bialek Republican” and you’ll get LOTS of hits.)
She may be a registered Republican; I couldn’t say. Pistol Pete said her registration is lapsed, which I think means she hasn’t bothered to vote in a long time.
Whatever. To my way of thinking, Herman Cain’s “political persuasion” goes far beyond sticking an R by his name. For example, he believes in marriage, family and personal responsibility, all concepts which appear to be foreign territory to this Bialek creature.
Sharon Bialek also claims to have confronted Cain at Teacon 2011 (Sept 30 – Oct 1) and that he became uncomfortable after he recognized her.
Excuse me? We’re supposed to believe he recognized a woman he had one meeting with 14 years ago? Seriously?
John Nolte reports at Big Government that,
Part of Ms. Bialek’s statement included the description of a personal encounter she claimed to have had Mr. Cain at WIND’s Teacon in October of 2011. She claims to have confronted Mr. Cain and that he became uncomfortable after he recognized her.
Big Government has spoken with a source who helped organize Teacon 2011 and who confirmed that Sharon Bialek attended, as did Mr. Cain (who was a featured speaker).
Our source also remembers Ms. Bialek personally, and therefore can confirm that the woman who attended was not a different woman with the same name.
I read and loved Andrew Breitbart’s autobiography Righteous Indignation, so I’m extra disappointed in his Big Government for this careless reportage. I learned the following with a few keystrokes in Google:
- Cain was not a “featured speaker” at Teacon 2011. http://www.560wind.com/pages/TeaCon_Home
- The day after Teacon ended, Warner Todd Huston reported at Chicago Now (URL below) that he had overheard a heated argument between Cain and one of the event’s chief sponsors. If BG’s unnamed source is this same hostile sponsor, his credibility is suspect.
As for this alleged “confrontation” with Bialek that supposedly made Cain “uncomfortable”, let me count the ways it stinks like a restaurant dumpster.
For one, the timing is a whole lot too convenient. Teacon 2011 was held Sept 31 – Oct 1, 2011, just a few weeks before Bialek and her celebrity-pimp lawyer Allred held a press conference to accuse Cain.
For another, Bialek’s claim is self-contradictory. Supposedly, she’s coming out as Cain’s “fourth” victim.
(The others are all anonymous accusations of vague “inappropriate” behaviors, so I’ll take that with a pound of salt.)
The point is … the Left would like us to believe Cain is a serial lech, yet even Bialek makes no claim to having met with him more than that one time 14 years ago.
So which is it?
Did Cain so violate his own moral code that one time that Bialek’s face is burned into his guilty conscience?
Or is he a cold-hearted, habitual abuser who couldn’t possibly be expected to remember the face of someone he only met with and groped once a long time ago?
They can’t have it both ways.
Of course, there is a third option, which is that Sharon Bialek is a lazy, greedy, amoral, self-centered bimbo who is happy to slander a good man in exchange for 30 pieces of silver and 15 minutes in the spotlight.
Personally, I think if she went to Teacon 2011 at all, it was because Allred put her up to it specifically so that a few weeks later they could make her out to be a Tea Partier who was abused by the Tea Party’s favorite candidate. (Herman Cain won the straw poll at Teacon 2011.)
Furthermore, if Cain did see her, I doubt he remembered her. But bad behavior often makes good people uncomfortable. I can readily believe that if she confronted him in some hostile, “I’m going to tell everyone what you did” way, that would have been enough to make him seem “uncomfortable.”
One more stink in this smelly pile is the presence of celebrity lawyer slash media whore Gloria Allred.
Allred has a long list of high-profile cases that got her face on the news; she almost seems to specialize in targeting rich, famous men with sexual harassment, though she has branched out occasionally.
For example, she helped sue the Boy Scouts of America for excluding an eleven year old girl for what she referred to as “gender apartheid” and went after a drugstore chain for having separate toy aisles for boys’ and girls’ toys.
Erick Erickson, the influential editor of the website RedState, reported being skeptical of Bialek specifically BECAUSE of the presence of Allred.
“My general rule of thumb is that when Gloria Allred crawls out from under her rock, the 15 minutes of fame for the story is up.”
I’m not like those hypocritical Leftists who excuse any and all behavior in their own. But I find no reason whatsoever to believe one jot or tittle of these accusations against Herman Cain.
But as long as I’m kvetching … where are all the self-righteous liberal accusations about how white people (like Bialek and Allred) are WAY out of line accusing a black presidential candidate of misbehavior?
