Cain reminds me so much of Dave Ramsey. If you aren’t rich, blame yourself! LOL! Waaaaaay too blunt and not pc but I like it.

      Me,too, Dee.

Good grief, Pete! There is a whole lot of reading to do right here. I love it! That will be something for me to look forward to after dinner. I already read your snark, which is the best part.

I am hoping Chrissy gets her computer issues straight soon, too. She complements everything you do so well.

Thanks! It’s nice to be noticed even in absentia :).

Dearest has been slammed with work and the next things on our “Stuff to Try” list is all his, so I’m puttering along with my (boring) file organization project. It needs doing. sigh

Progress this week … Dearest took our internet box into Time-Warner and got a new one. His puter worked the same as usual; mine did not, as usual. Dang.

Next item on the list was for Dearest to download any driver upgrades he’d missed for our router. We can’t find the paperwork for it, but it definitely predates 2007 when we started with T-W (which conveniently has the start date built into the account number so I was able to figure that out). I think that maybe means it predates Vista. So maybe that’s at least part of what we think has been a multi-faceted series of problems piggy-backed on each other.

Got the upgrade downloaded today, but Dearest couldn’t find time to figure out how to install it. Maybe tomorrow. Meantime, when he was walking the dogs, he noticed a Time-Warner guy at the neighbor’s house, so collared him and got us a service call. The guy was really nice and very helpful.

He said the street box had some loose cables, which would go a long way toward explaining why some of our problems are intermittent. He tightened them, then came inside and tweaked Dearest’s installation of the inside box.

And look at me … HERE with all y’all. I was even able to go read some of Pete’s articles and watched one brief video. It’s still not as fast as I need it for work, so more to do. Maybe that router upgrade will do it. Tech Guy really snooped my puter from the software end and fixed every possible glitch he could find. He also taught me how to ping to test for speed, which is how I know we’re still not THERE yet. My pings are timing out.

Still … I’m here! A few days ago, I couldn’t get online at ALL and when I finally did, I couldn’t do more than open gmail, which is small, and send small text messages to Tech Guy and The Curious Librarian (I think that’s her handle).

Offline, Mr T works beautifully and I’m getting the hang of Adobe Photoshop … upgraded from Elements to Professional ooh la la. I’ve been stockpiling ideas and occasionally making some Site Bites, so when I come back full time, it’ll be with a bang LOL.

Okay … gotta get back to the grunt work. Until my old hard drive is emptied, I can’t get all that hardware off my desk, which is an important step toward real efficiency. Dearest promised to design and build whatever I need to get ergonomic.

Mr T is a laptop and I am not working well with the keyboard and touchpad. I don’t have to hunt, peck and think real hard about them any more, but my computing glasses are Rxed for a monitor that is farther from my face than my arms can reach. Not too handy with a laptop. LOL Also, the keyboard/touchpad heat is really irritating my skin.

Dearest promised to build me a shelf to place the monitor on my desk where my eyes and neck are most comfortable. In the short run, I can use my old (dying) desktop mouse and keyboard on my under-desk pull-out shelf which I LOVE, because it allows my arms to hang loose, just the way I like, but still pushes in for when I want to write on my desk.

Unfortunately, the shelf is cracked and bounces, very annoying, and I really want to switch to a roller ball so I can stop reaching to the mouse. The last two Big Things on my wish list are one, for Dearest to build me a wider under-desk shelf with a nice smooth and stable pull-out mechanism and room for a roller ball and two, a roller ball that’s been out-gassed.

If anyone has a roller ball they’d be willing to part with, I’d appreciate it. It is really hard for me to use anything that is factory new. (Mr. T is a hand-me-down, which is why he’s still running Vista.)
