Reading through comments over at one of the links for the lost 2100 jobs and came up to this: “DisplacedWingsFan 9:20 PM on 7/29/2011
“This just has to be faux news. It just cannot be true. No unions, no business taxes, and an ample supply of nearly slave labour, how could operations be cheaper elsewheres? Somebody had better get on this. We need to find out who the competition is and how we can undercut and/or underbid them.”

    Any thoughts?

And trying to sort through this comment. Pete, you got my mind stretching this AM–and I usually like to be an airhead on the weekend. Thanks!

Note the company’s reasons for the closing: “with sky-high gas prices and with sky-high corn prices, it’s simply not efficient.”

Now, consider that a big driver of high corn prices is the corn production dedicated to government subsidized ethanol production. If corn-based ethanol is a cost and energy efficient additive to gasoline then the business should stand on its own without federal subsidies.
Why should our government subsidize this industry to the detriment of high food costs for the public and job cuts in corn-dependent industries?

Likewise, consider that our high gas prices are going into the pockets of big oil companies that are also federally subsidized through special tax breaks. I get it why the Republicans in Congress don’t want to increase taxes for the voting public but how can they defend tax breaks for highly profitable corporations like big-oil?

This is clearly a case where tax breaks are costing jobs, not creating them as the Republican leadership would have us believe. Both of these are problems that Congress has created and has the power to fix.

Write your Texas Senators and your Representative. I just did.”

I’m nervous about my impending puter change. I’m SO used to the desk top set up with keyboard and mouse … I know it’s going to make me slightly nuts for a while to switch to a laptop with a touch pad.

WOULD WELCOME advice about touch pad use!

I think being able to FINALLY look at all these videos youse guys post will be the spoonful of sugar I need. This one would take seven minutes on this puter and it would only come through in burps. It’s hard to even get the jokes when the words come through 10 or 12 at a time with gaps between. sigh

Practice, practice, practice! Before you know it, you won’t even think about it, I promise. We still have a PC, and I hate using it because I don’t like the mouse….too much work 🙂

Thanks for the encouragement! I am having a bear of a time with my old mouse today. I think it knows it’s about to retire and it’s getting that “count down the days and do as little as possible before I can collect my pension” thing.

I’m feeling a little like my first pregnancy when I was terrified of labor and delivery, but then by the end, was so tired of being hugely pregnant that I didn’t mind so much when the contractions started.

          • Chrissy, you can use the laptops hard drive and just plug everything from your monitor and KEYBOARD into it! I only know because that was done for me by someone who knew what they were doing so that I could keep my bigger screen and wireless keyboard, but at a minimum, because you do so much with graphics, i think you would be best served by getting yourself a cooperative mouse plugged into the laptop so you can navigate smoother

Thanks for the tips. I told Dearest I was worried and he promised when the machine is finally ready for me, he would personally rehab my desk area to make it efficient and ergonomic.

He built my desk in the first place. It’s been great … the top is a good height for the monitor and for writing, but I have the keyboard in a drawer that slides out into my lap so my arms hang comfortable and I don’t have to strain or rest my wrists to type.

I do push on my wrist with the mouse, so I’m thinking I may benefit from pushing through the switch to touch pad. I get pretty sore even with the pad I made for my wrist.

It’s really helped to talk this over with him and youse guys. I’m feeling nervous still, but less “looming doom” and more “ready to take on the challenge.” 🙂

    WOMAN

A real woman is a man’s best friend.
She will never stand him up and never let him down.
She will reassure him when he feels insecure and comfort him after a bad day.
    She will inspire him to do things he never thought he could do;

to live without fear and forget regret.
She will enable him to express his deepest emotions,

and give in to his most intimate desires.
She will make sure he always feels as though he’s the most
handsome man in the room and will enable him to be the most confident,
    sexy, seductive and invincible…

    No wait…

    Sorry….

I’m thinking of whiskey. It’s whiskey that does all that stuff.

    Never mind.
