THE FIRST MONDAY IN OCTOBER

The Supreme Court descended from Mount Olympus today to decide how all us peons should live our lives. Any ruling that is not to the liking of this regime will be considered irrelevant by BHO,who deems himself the real arbiter of all things. There are a number of cases they will take up,others they will not. I’m putting a couple linkies here so as not to waste reply space.

Obamacare Again On SCOTUS To-Do List
It is always risky to make predictions about the Court, but it is quite plausible that the justices will accept this case. Two federal courts, including one in Oklahoma last week, have already declared the IRS decree unconstitutional and the Roberts Court has demonstrated a marked aversion for the very kind of bureaucratic lawmaking that provoked this lawsuit.

NOT TO WORRY,LIBS. BESIDES THE FOUR LEFTIES YOU CAN COUNT ON THE YELLOW RAT TURNCOAT ROBERTS TO GIVE YOU WHAT YOU WANT.

Court clears the way for gay marriage expansion
The Supreme Court cleared the way Monday for an immediate expansion of same-sex marriage by unexpectedly and tersely turning away appeals from five states seeking to prohibit gay and lesbian unions. The court’s order effectively makes gay marriage legal now in 30 states.

Without comment, the justices brought to an end delays in same-sex marriages in five states— Indiana, Oklahoma, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin. Chief Justice John Roberts did not say a word about same-sex marriage as he began the court’s new term.

Five Supreme Court cases to watch
The U.S. Supreme Court will dive back into questions involving the limits of executive branch power, religious freedom and scope of Fourth Amendment protections when Chief Justice John Roberts and crew return Monday to the bench.

Those issues represent familiar terrain for the Roberts court, which opens its October term with a slate of roughly 50 cases on its docket.

But it remains to be seen whether the court will take up same-sex marriage, abortion or another challenge to ObamaCare — issues that could represent the term’s biggest blockbusters

Dick Durbin’s wife discovered to be a Lobbyist
The Chicago Tribune headlines that Dick Durbin’s wife is a lobbyist, and that there may have been instances in which her clients received federal funding. We are quickly told that this was just a coincidence (and that our fly is open).

Durbin explained that he and his wife “take pains” to be certain there are no conflicts of interest. The imagery of sleepless nights and “Honey, what shall we do?” conversations wrought with forehead wiping and hand wringing come to mind.
    I’m shocked…shocked that there’s a corrupt politician in Illinois!

David Axelrod: ‘A Mistake’ For Obama To Admit Policies Are On The Ballot [VIDEO]
David Axelrod, a former Senior Advisor to President Barack Obama, admitted Sunday morning that it was a blunder by his former boss to say he may not be “on the ballot this fall, but make no mistake, these policies are on the ballot.”

“I would not have put that line in there,” Axelrod said. “It was a mistake.”

Republicans have already jumped all over the comment, including it in political ads such as one Chuck Todd showed hitting independent Kansas senate candidate Greg Orman.

  3. LOLOL! Thanks for the laughs today! I needed them.

This is nothing compared to what Bob is going through with her local gov’t, but we had a rough time in court this morning. Oldest son was down from college to face a judge about a DUI charge. He’d been put in jail and his car impounded over the summer because he messed up a roadside sobriety test, even though he was totally sober at the time. Now, in college, he’s been forced to drive between cities at a moment’s notice for 2 months to pee on command to make sure he stays “sober” until his blood tests came back from the labs in North Korea, or wherever they send them.

The judge had the results today, and DS came through completely clear. Nothing. Zilch. So what does the judge do? Instead of dismissing the charge, he orders an increased panel of tests to look for rare drugs, like LSD, and continues DS’s period of probation for more months. Because, you know, the cop can’t be wrong for incarcerating the kid for taking 10 steps instead of 9 on the roadside test. He must have been impaired somehow.

Meanwhile, DS has been through a series of exhaustive tests for a bone marrow donor match recently (he’s donating to some guy with blood cancer), and he’s been cleared of everything possible, so we already know he’s not on anything AT ALL. Further, this donee guy with blood cancer might end up dying now because the judge’s insane orders will interfere with the boy’s ability to fly out of state to donate his bone marrow.

But there’s nothing wrong with our police state at all. All is just fine here in Obama’s Amerika.

I’m so sorry to hear about your son.I used to give police the benefit of the doubt in nearly all cases.Anymore, though,it seems like their general atitude is shoot first, ask questions if you have to.I think about your case and compare it to cases of a black teen beating a white person nearly to death and plea to a simple assault and be out before the victim is out of the hospital.
Maybe the judge was just trying to “make an example” of your son.

      • Made an example for what? Being totally innocent? For being courteous to the officer while he was being handcuffed for making a suspicious lane change?

Thanks, Pete. I appreciate the sympathy. I’m also a law enforcement supporter by default, but the strangeness of the way enforcement and the judicial stuff are applied makes me really wonder sometimes.

So sorry about that. We had a very similar situation when our son was in college. It was a nightmare, but we didn’t think someone might die because of the stupidity. Does the judge know that? Just terrible.

      • Thanks, Ting. Sorry to hear about your son going through a similar situation in college. The judges do not ask any questions about things like that, and they do not like to be told about anything they do not request. I understand their position, but it is maddening nonetheless. Aside from our son’s particular situation, I have a general loathing for DUI stops because they are one of the worst current violations of the 4th Amendment, and I’ve never understood how our society could allow such devastating punishments ($20,000, time in jail and possible lost jobs during probation requirements), all for being innocent of any crime. It’s outrageous to me that people are criminalized for being “likely” to commit an imaginary accident that has not even occurred, much less any crime. We are getting closer to moving to Chile or New Zealand all the time.

I hate those DUI checkpoints, too. It does seem like a violation of the 4th Amendment to me, too, but the federal government hands out a lot of money to police departments to set them up. I think for the most part they have outlived their usefulness, even if one does think they were worthwhile. With everyone having cell phones these days it is easy to call in and report a driver who is obviously impaired. And it is getting easier to avoid the checkpoints, too, because of cell phones. We live across the street from the University of Richmond, one house away from a major intersection. Like clockwork they would roll in at 9:00 PM on the last Saturday of September and the first Friday of December. 10 and 15 years ago they used to tow lots of cars and arrest a lot of people. I used to peek out the upstairs window like Gladys Kravitz if I was bored. I always sent a text or phone call to everyone I know to warn them. Everyone else must have been doing the same thing, because they just don’t do it anymore. It has been several years.

My son was stopped for “a suspicious lane change” too. Must be the excuse for pulling college age kids. Later we found out that it just happened that he was driving by a store where the DC sniper had used the pay phone earlier in the day, so they were pulling everybody who drove by there that night! I guess they had to have an excuse for everyone they pulled. My son had had a beer, and admitted it when the policeman asked if he had been drinking – his college has a strong honor code that applies off campus as well. He passed the roadside sobriety tests, but since he was 20 instead of 21 he had to do the breathalyzer anyway. For an underage person, the DUI blood alcohol limit is about what you would have from cough syrup. If he had been 6 months older it would not have been an infraction. I will say this, though. He doesn’t take any chances in that regard ever since, so I guess he did learn something.

Roberts down by 10 in new Kansas poll
Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) is facing a double-digit deficit with one month left in his campaign, according to a new poll from NBC News.
Roberts trails independent businessman Greg Orman by 48 percent to 38 percent in the poll, conducted by Marist College for NBC.

I’ve been watching this one pretty closely.Roberts was badly damaged in the primary by a Tea Party challenger and the national party poured millions into the campaign to put down the insurrection.
The democrats, realizing their candidate had no chance of winning always has a backup plan .Thats why they win.In this case they financed an “independent” named Greg Orman. He touts his pseudo independence and claims he can break the gridlock in the senate.Sadly,a lot of republicans are either buying this hoakum or are just tired of the party deciding who they have to vote for.Kansas should be a blowout win for the GOP and they’re going to lose it.
    Grandad always said:
‘a dog knows the difference between being tripped over and being kicked.’
Voters are getting tired of being kicked.

The Logical Consequence of Treating Your Base Like Garbage
    From Erick Erickson’s diary
Now the GOP is struggling, mostly in Senate races. They are struggling not just in polling, but in fundraising too. It is not a coincidence.
The national Republican groups seem intent on ignoring Obamacare as a winning campaign issue, relying instead on outside groups to make the case. They seem intent on amnesty. In fact, though Chairman Priebus never went there, many people interpreted his speech as being weak on immigration solely because of the antics of Republicans in Congress.
I expect the GOP will ultimately win the Senate. But it is going to be far harder than it ever had to be. When you call your base “bigots” and “racists” and then beg them for money and votes, you should not be surprised when they are not sure if they should come back.

After host George Stephanopoulos highlighted how “Nate Silver’s team at FiveThirtyEight gives the GOP a 59% of retaking the Senate” Van Jones shamefully urged Democrats to use Ebola as a talking point in 2014:

We can’t let the Republicans get away with some of the stuff they’re doing this week, just trying to bash Obama. Hey, you know, government is always your enemy until you need a friend. This Ebola thing is the best argument you can make for the kind of government that we believe in.

Gallup: Voter opposition to Obama at 16-year high, worse than Bush, Clinton
Angry and frustrated voters are planning to use the midterm elections in one month to tell President Obama they oppose his agenda, the highest “no vote” percentage in the last 16 years measured by Gallup.

The polling outfit found that 32 percent of voters want to send a message of opposition with their vote, compared to just 20 percent who are sending a signal of support.

Hey remember when crazy right wingers predicted that gay marriage would lead to legalizing polygamy? Well that happened. Also they predicted that the next step would be to seek the same civil rights protections for pedophiles.

Cops search Sharpton pal’s pad after ‘rape’

NYPD detectives zeroed in on the Upper East Side apartment of Al Sharpton confidant Sanford Rubenstein on Sunday in their hunt for “rape” evidence, after an attempt to nail the high-powered attorney in a setup meeting with his accuser disintegrated.
Rubenstein — who handles big-money lawsuits against the city, particularly those targeting the NYPD — routinely brings a rotating cast of African-American women in their 20s and early 30s to functions, and had arrived at the party with another woman, sources said. Before heading home, he allegedly latched onto the alleged victim, whom he knew.

They are told that they must obtain Obamacare approved health insurance plans through either their state insurance exchanges or the continuing troubled Healthcare.gov website. Paul Revere of Raiders rock band dies at 76 in his Idaho home after battling cancer
He was born Paul Revere Dick and found success with his band’s songs ‘Kicks,’ ‘Hungry,’ ‘Good Thing,’ and ‘Indian Reservation’
While he had toured almost constantly in recent years, health issues forced him home six months ago
Was also known for work as the house band on Dick Clark’s ‘Where the Action Is’
(the song Where The Action Is was actually recorded by Freddie “boom boom” Cannon.,But you wouldn’t know that unless you were there)
If you were a teenager from 1966-68 you knew this band well. They were regulars on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand and the singer,Mark Lindsey was on the cover of all the teen heartthrob magazines. Our band played a number of their hits.
What has fascinated me is that even the social media of today has recognized this man’s life. It’s surprising that young people ever even heard of him except from their grandparents.

HEY!! SOME GOOD NEWS OUT OF CHICAGO!!!

The winds of political change sent a chill up the backs of national Democrat leaders Tuesday when two long-time Chicago Democrat powerhouses announced their support for Republican businessman Bruce Rauner, in his attempt to unseat incumbent Illinois Governor Pat Quinn. Reverend James T. Meeks of the 15,000 member strong Salem Baptist Church and Manny Sanchez, founder and managing partner of Sanchez Daniels & Hoffman LLP, the second largest minority-owned law firm in the United States, both made their intentions public today in statements and interviews given to Fox News. Both men are respected throughout Chicago, particularly among the black and Hispanic communities and their defection in this Democrat strongholds marks a watershed moment in American politics.
