I want to HIGHLY RECOMMEND the animated series “Liberty’s Kids” to one and all. They’re aimed at 8-14 year olds, but are SO well done, Dearest and I just love them. Netflix has them and we bought a set for Baby Buzz at Amazon.
We watched the last episode the other night, the one about the Constitution. Slavery was a recurring issue throughout the series, with one prominent character being a freed slave working for the Revolution while his slave brother fought for the British in hopes of winning his freedom. In the last episode, the freed slave and Ben Franklin talk about how devastatingly disappointing it was to have to allow slavery in order to get the Constitution passed at all.
I couldn’t help wondering if any of the fools who slam the founders have ever thought through what would have happened if the founders had NOT compromised. Maybe the intransigent “slavery or nothing” states of North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia would have chosen to found a separate, slave Southern United States, while the rest formed a Northern United States.
Isn’t it likely that this Southern nation would have expanded as much as possible, legalizing slavery everywhere?
How long would it have taken this slave nation to get around to outlawing slavery minus Abraham Lincoln’s determination to fight a war rather than allow the UNITED States to fail as a single nation?
To get a clue about this, I grabbed some highlights from the “Abolition of slavery timeline” at Wikipedia.

I sometimes wonder why more American blacks aren’t GRATEFUL their ancestors got brought over here.

Today, slavery may be technically illegal everywhere in the world, but slavery continues to exist in many countries around the world, including our own.You think “sex slavery” is some kind of S&M game? Or that the illegals kept in sweat shops until they pay off their coyotes or their whatever-Chinese-human-traffickers are free?
Never mind the unborn, who USED to enjoy legal protection as humans, but are now officially Property, Not People according to the U.S., the U.N., and a bunch of other places.
While I’m ranting about stupid Leftists, let me also just repeat for those of you who have been in a coma … Article 1, Section 2, Paragraph 3 of the United States Constitution wasn’t about the value the founders placed on black people.
“Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons.”
That 3/5ths thing was about anti-slave founders doing the best they could to prevent slave states from grabbing more power in the House of Representatives, where the number of Representatives and therefore of votes is based on population.
Anti-slavery delegates didn’t want to allow states to count slaves as citizens, since they couldn’t vote. Pro-slave delegates (the Pro-Choicers of their day) wanted slaves counted as equal to free citizens. The delegates were dead-locked until James Wilson and Roger Sherman came up with the three-fifths thing as a compromise both sides hated, but accepted to get the Constitution passed and the new nation started.
It would have been a very bad thing if the slave states had had even MORE votes in Congress than the 3/5ths compromise allowed them. For example, slave states wanted slavery legal in all new territories and states. If they’d had the extra votes, maybe they could’ve done it.
Anyway … IMHO, all the morons who rail against the founders would do well to learn a little of their own history … from say, sometime BEFORE the 1960s. I’d start them on Liberty’s Kids.

He promised women he would reward them for as many babies as they had at so much apiece as long as there was no man in the house.Government,in essence,became the father.Children started growing up with no male influence in the house and too often a mother who considered them a scource of income.
Generations grew up with no aspirations,content to live on government largesse and without adult supervision turned to gangs for a sense of belonging.
Segregation in the South was bad,but now they segregate themselves of their own volition.They have their own culture,music,language and want nothing from whites except their money.Any non-black in their “hood” is looked on as an intruder.
How do you undo a mindset in a society with a 70% abortion rate that life is cheap and many think they’ll end up dead or in prison?The only answer I can think of is school choice,where kids that have been condemned to failing public schools get a chance at a decent education and a means to break the cycle of dependence and hopelessness.I’m sure thats a big reason Obama cancelled the DC voucher program,even though kids who got to go to charter schools did remarkably well.That,and he had to pay fealty to the teachers union,who kicked in $50 million to get him elected in 2008.
Things won’t change until people want them to change.
As long as there are people who are satisfied with a check the first of the month,I doubt it will change.

I got a bit of hope from that datum Andrew Klavan cited, that blacks are moving from failing blue states to thriving red states.
